TOO many people online are haram policing and there are not enough halal celebrators. If you see someone praying, why not congratulate them on praying instead of saying, âsister, your hair is out a little so your prayer didnât count.â How can you say something like that? Did you open her chest and see what was in her heart? Are the mayor of Islam? Are you playing God? Do you get to decide who is forgiven and who is punished? Listen to me, we donât need your âforbidding wrongâ when you never âenjoin what is right.â When you see someone fast a whole day and break it with a sandwich, donât let the first thing you say be âitâs sunnah to break it with dates brother.â Congratulate them, pray for them, celebrate that in a world focused on fulfilling worldly desires this person committed an entire day to Allah. When a young girl is coming from university to pray at the mosque on Friday between classes donât say, âsister you need to wear socks, why is your make-up on, why are you wearing nail polish.â Yes there are certain rules in certain schools of thought around these things, but this is not the first thing you say to someone. You cannot correct someone without first connecting with them. And even then, you must have adab or politeness. If your advice does not come from a place of love and appreciation then your advice will hurt you and help no one. Listen to me, nobody needs you to save them. And God doesnât need you to save anyone. God is fully capable to lead and guide anyone who wills to be guided. We need to get off this ego-trip that the world needs us, that sister needs me to fix her islam, or that brother needs me to return him to the right path. Listen if the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) could not guide his own uncle, how could you think you can save anyone? (28:56) You were not sent to this earth to force people into your perspectives. You were sent to this earth to emulate your Prophet (pbuh) who was sent as a mercy to all worlds. You were sent to speak to each person in their own language. You were sent to this Earth as a representative of love and kindness and compassion. When you want to give someone advice, ask yourself: What would Muhammad do? Peace upon his soul, can you imagine how kind he would be? Can you imagine the softness in his voice, the love in his eyes, and warmness of his heart? Do not spread Islam through your ego and self-righteousness. For every heart you break you will be asked about that. For every soul you turn away you will be asked about that. Oh Allah forgive us for not celebrating the beauty we see in our brothers and sisters. Lord forgive us for judging people in ways that only you have the right to. Ya Allah forgive us for our arrogance. Lord allow us to see that the moment we step up and say anything from a place of judgement to someone we are worse than the ones we are correcting because âI am betterâ is only what the devil says. Ya Allah protect us from harshness. Lord help us to celebrate and connect with our brothers and sisters before we ever think to correct them. Lord put mercy in our souls. Make us polite in representing Your path of grace â¨

In my latest chat with coach Shayan @babyrumii I told him how I sat on my emirates flight to the Middle East a few weeks ago to realize I had left my laptop in the security line tray. I ran to the front of the plane to ask the lady if I had time to get it and come back. She called the security line, they said they had it, but I would mostly miss my flight if I ran back to get it. SubhanAllah. I had all these plans of finishing a bunch of projects leisurely on my trip and in one instance all of that was gone. I returned to my seat, stared in front of me and smiled. The prayer I had made before I came on that airplane was, âAllah help me get closer to You.â And before the plane even took off from California Allah had began to answer my prayer. I realized that I was being called to focus without distractions on the signs of my Lord. An hour into our flight I told my friend Radiyyah who I was traveling with what had happened. She panicked because she knew how important my computer was to me because I run my whole life off of it. I just kept looking at her blissfully smiling until she said, âYou are taking this surprisingly well.â I think had she seen how perfectly and quickly Allah had answered my deepest prayer, she would have considered leaving my computer behind as a blessing and then I donât think she would have given me so much undeserved credit. It was from this very incident that I started to contemplate how our happiness does not come from what we have or from obtaining what we want, but rather from surrendering and letting go of our picture of how we think things should go. Why should I suffer on a beautiful flight with an incredible friend over a computer that was not written to be with me this trip? Why should I waste this precious moment for something that has already passed? I am not saying we canât have time to process, but I think often times we drown ourselves in waters that were sent to save us. Itâs so clear to me that my computer had to be left behind for me to learn the lessons God had for me so then my work is learning to release the expectations I had for my trip trusting that what was meant to be is already here. My limited vision of how things should be will always be inferior to what God knows I need no matter how hard my ego tries to claim otherwise. The sobering fact is that you will never get what you want because you want it. I didnât make a mistake when I said âNever.â Our desires are not causes. Allah is the only Cause. What this means is that life does not give us what we want, but Allah gives us what He knows we need. In every single moment, for the good hearted, God is writing into our lives the greatest possible opportunity to become closer to Him. This is good news because often we unknowingly pray for things that would not be good for us so when Allah prevents us from getting what we want, He is actually protecting our interests. Where we chase for the rewards of this world which are passing away like a sugar cube in the rain, Allah seeks for us the eternal rewards of the Hereafter. The sooner we understand that life is not about accomplishing our dreams, or getting married, or being rich, or having that perfect job, or having children is the sooner we can remind ourselves of our actual purpose on earthâto know, love, and worship God. Itâs not to say making our dreams come true, falling in love, etc. is bad, but we should not think we are defined by these things because in the end they are only adornments of this life. This is why deep down beyond and within everything Islam teaches lies surrender. It is only when we let go of holding on and being defined by our joys or pains that we find true freedom. Joy is not a side effect to what we accomplish, but rather is dependent on how we choose to react when things donât go the way we want. You canât âdo happy,â you can only âbe happy.â Happiness is not found in the things we own, but in rather what we learn to accept and appreciate from the things that Godâs writes to blossom in our lives. â¨
âThis much is for God, and this much is for our idols.â (6:136) How often do we say this? How often do we feel like we have worshipped enough, we have given enough, we have fasted enough or repented enough? As I am reading the Qurâan this Ramadan I am seeing that the idolaters of Mecca represent a reflection of our own egos. Yes, the Qurâan is a book that was contextually set in 7th century Arabia, but the characters and stories in this book are archetypes that transcend prophetic periods throughout history. I may not have taken a fruit as my idol like Adam, but I do often fall into the trap of being attached to a bit apple đą in my pocket. I may not circumambulate a house filled with idols my hands have carved, but I do circle in my mind around the reputation and beliefs I have created. I may not worship a golden calf, but I worship the gold I have. I may not worship the moon and the sun, but can I say I solely worship the One? I mean if we really did only worship God then how come we have hundreds of idols fighting for our attention every time we pray? How come we are more concerned with the likes we get on a selfie we take than how much light we have sowed into our faith? When I read the Qurâan, I am amazed how beneath the surface of literalism lies countless metaphors. I am seeing now that the only way to truly be changed by this book, is by not just reading it, but imagining yourself playing every character. This is how the living Qurâan becomes awakened and integrated into your field of vision. This is how reading the Qurâan goes from being passive to being active. Now I feel at times as if I am not just reading these holy words but that I am living inside the ecosystem of revelation. Sometimes it feels like I am literally eating from itâs truth. It is as if I am being changed by itâs words, the way minerals and vitamins change the composition of the body. Do not forget the Qurâan is the LIVING word of God, which means it is dynamic and constantly growing in itâs field of light. Do not read the Qurâan judging those that came before you, instead ask yourself why you are being told these stories. If the Qurâan is an X-ray of your existence, be vigilant as to which part of you is being spoken to in every verse. Listen carefully. This book is your story. What is it confronting? What is reminding you of? Listen carefully, sometimes the clearest things are the easiest to miss. â¨
This verse and verses like this always seem to bother me. Itâs not that I donât trust that God always knows better or that there must be some greater wisdom behind the verse itâs just that I could never wrap my head around how a loving God would facilitate us on the path of evil by âadding to the sickness of our hearts.â But this Ramadan something happened when I read this verse. It was almost as if the verse cracked open and unveiled a deeper reality. As many of you know the Arabic word for a verse of the Qurâan is âayah,â which means a âsignâ. This is so perfect because the word itself reminds us that the ayahs of the Qurâan are not destinations, but rather âsignsâ pointing to a greater reality. Instead of looking at the verse on itâs own I thought of it as a sign pointing to something beyond itself. Then suddenly it became clear that since Allah is the light of the world, He shines upon all of our actions. The good and the bad of what we plant magnifies and grows creating either sickness or health. Whatever seeds we plant in the soil of our hearts Allah will help us grow because He is the origin of creation and growth. If we plant weeds that is what we will grow and if we plant flowers that is what we will grow. In other words, God is not punishing us as much as He is allowing us to taste the consequence of our own actions. The Qurâan says, âWhosoever intercedes for a good cause will have the reward thereof, and whosoever intercedes for an evil cause will have a share in its burden.â (4:85) It is never Allah who wrongs us, it is we who wrong ourselves. Just as how lying to a doctor, makes our disease worse, when we try to trick Allah it is we who suffer. Perhaps the deepest mercy, is actually when Allah increases our symptoms. Perhaps the only way to save our lives and make us change is to make the pain unbearable. In this moment I see how Godâs mercy embraces all of my pains because it is through voice of my pain that I am told something must change. After all, a disease with hidden symptoms is the most deadly. Ya Allah thank you for loving us enough to overwhelm us and burden us with something we can not bear without your help. #ameen
The word gratitude comes from the Greek word âgratus" which means thankful and pleasing, but also is said to be loosely related to the word âgrace.â In essence, gratefulness is directly related to God because it is through the doorway of gratitude that we can experience Godâs grace. Being in a state of gratitude is being in a state of remembering God. When we are in a state of gratefulness we are in a higher vibration, with more clarity and more awareness of our innate alignment with Allah. Gratitude is not an emotion itâs more a state of mind. States of mind are different than emotions because they are like channels on the radio that we can consciously choose to dial into. Although we canât always control over our emotional waves we can learn how to surf them by disciplining our minds. When we understand that every moment we are tuning into some state of mind whether it be gratitude or depression, abundance or scarcity, joy or sadness, we start to see that our state of mind colors how we see the world. The reason why we have five daily prayers, Ramadan, and daily chanting or dhikr practices of reciting Allahâs names is because of how important it is to constantly align ourselves with Allah and be intentional about our state of mind. I asked soul mentor Shayan Mehdi or @babyrumii how to do this and he said share the following practice that helps us remember and celebrate Godâs grace in our lives on a daily basis. He said, âTake just 10 minutes of your day to be grateful. Spend the first 3 minutes in gratitude for all that Allah has given you. Then spend 3 minute wishing well for others and praying for their success and happiness, and then take the last 4 minutes or so to imagine the possibilities of serving this world through the things that you are most passionate about. Spending time dreaming and imagining your greatest potential has a way of expanding your mind and breaking your self imposed limitations. When we tune into the station of gratitude our eyes are more open to all that we have already been given and all that God continuously gives to us.â Now do you see why the Qurâan says, âIf you give thanks, I will give you more.â (14:7) Being grateful doesnât make God more generous it makes us more aware of His generosity. Gratitude is like putting on prescription glasses, the world was always there perfect and crisp it was we who could not see it until we had the right lenses. So if you donât like what you see maybe it is not the world that is broken but perhaps it is your vision that has become weak. The good news is gratitude glasses are free, you just have to have the discipline to wear them! đ
In the darkness of the night, beneath the blanket of depression, on the days you long for the desert to cover you with its blowing sands, on the nights you imagine ocean waves to grow to the height of mountains pulling you close into the depths of its soul in currents that none can escape, on the days the sadness is like a thousand knives masked in butterflies in your stomach, when the whole world is falling apart a wintery leaf at a time as you watch everyone who said they would be there leave like you are an autumn tree and the softest breeze of difficulty sheds you of all your protective layers, when you have nowhere else to turn, when every bridge you built was burned, when your heart is not broken but shattered into dust into a shape that can't be salvaged, when the moon is swallowed by the darkness of despair, when the sun sets into the ocean of your hopelessness when you feel like a dark ant on a dark stone in the darkest of nights do not be sad God sees you, God is here. You do not have to find Him or seek for Him or deserve His presence because His proximity to you is not based on you and your actions but Him and His unconditional Love. Don't close your eyes, don't shut off your mind, don't pull the plug on your sensitive heart, stay soft no matter how hard it gets, stay open, no matter how many stones are chuck or wells you are thrown in or giants you face or tyrants come to oppress you or people mock you, trust the help will come, trust that Allah will open a way where no way could be seen. Oceans will part, floods will come, and elephants will kneel, because by the command of your Lord fire is made cool and camels emerge from stone so whatever your pain is, whatever despair you feel know that Allah is with you. That if He finds you lost He can guide you, that if He finds you poor He can make you rich, that with Him near no miracle is too far to reach so do not label anything impossible for He is the Creator of all that is. The peace you seek is sprouting from inside, be patient any day now it will push passed the fertile soil of the unseen, poking it's head passed the surface of your consciousness. Just wait a little longer, your spring is just around the corner waiting to blossom, like a rose open towards the light no matter how many nights you have to face to breathe in the dawn, promise me promise me you will unfold yourself when the light arrives. Promise me, promise me you will trust the Divine! â¨đđşđ¸
Since God declares in the Qurâan, âRemembrance of Allah is the greatestâ (29:45), we can say the greatest misstep would be to forget God. As Imam Ali says, âYour sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it and your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. You presume you are a small entity, but within you is enfolded the entire Universe. You are indeed the evident book, by whose alphabets the hidden becomes manifest. Therefore you have no need to look beyond yourself. What you seek is within you, if only you reflect.â The root problem of humanity then, is not sin, but the forgetfulness of our innate goodness and pre-eternal connection to the divine love of God. In the Bible, the Greek word used for âsinâ is hamartia, which comes from the sport of archery translating to âmissing the mark.â This word beautifully depicts how sin is not just turning away from God, but rather missing the whole point of what it means to be human. In other words, sin can be seen as a symptom of the human being losing sight of their primordial goodness (fitra). Since the goodness of man is a reflection of Godâs eternal and perfect goodness, our fitra cannot be dimmed or stained through human sin. If a million dollar ring was in a $1 box it would still be worth one million dollars. Just as a diamond veiled in the dust of coal is still worth the price of a diamond, a human soul that is covered in forgetfulness and sin is still priceless. Just as clouds cannot affect the presence and power of the sunâs light, but can alter our experience of the intensity of the light, sin can veil our perception of our inner goodness but it cannot change it. Your actions may be bad but you are NOT bad. You have a beautiful and holy Spirit that you can always return to. So when you sin, turn back. Return to your Lord. Know that you have a spot with Him. Know that Allah loves you infinitely more than you could ever understand and that Allahâs Divine love and mercy will cover all of your sins and mistakes with an embrace so all encompassing that you will dissolve like a rain drop in the sea of a His a Majesty đ§đâ¤ď¸
Light the match of wisdom to unveil all the treasures hidden inside of you that God has already given to you. What I think is remarkable about Allah is He legit gives you the world first then puts you in it. We wrongly think we have to go out there and earn happiness and contentment through doing and hard work, when in reality we can never earn anything. I mean what can we give to a God who has everything and needs nothing? Allah owns you and everything you could think to offer He owns that too! The remarkable thing about our journey on earth is that since we can not give God anything that is not already His our purpose is not to give as much as it is becoming receptive to receive what Allah has already given to us. Do you understand that surrender is not giving up something but rather opening up to divine possibilities? Do you understand that our work on earth is not to "deserve" something, but rather to unwrap the gift God already gave to us! Next time you get stuck in "deserving or not deserving" ask yourself one question: how I can deserve anything from God? I mean is there anything I can give to God He doesn't have? Can I ever worship Him worthy of how He deseves? Of course not! You see everything is a gift, a bargain, a blessing from God! The Prophet (pbuh) even said that even his good deeds won't lead him to heaven that his entrance into the garden is by Allah's Mercy. This is the good news of your religion! That all strength lies in your Lord, give Him your burdens and walk free! It makes me wild with joy inside, it makes my spirit dance, it makes my heart leap, it makes my soul feel a deep ease! "Will you not use your intelligence and see" that without God you'll never find peace! #allahuakbar

Be thankful first. Don't doubt Allah's infinite mercy. The more you trust His Mercy and are grateful for His mercy the more likely you will be pardoned for the very purpose of forgiveness is helping you reach the station of gratitude. In other words first reach for gratitude and thankfulness of Allah then seek His presence. If you study the fatiha you will see this formula in action. First we begin with praise and thankfulness then we seek the guidance! đ
You guys asked for a selfie here you goooo đŻđđđ˝ It's hard to always surrender to Allah but when we manage to do so we feel this tangible indescribable peace. The most amazing translation of surrender I have come across is "to be with what is" or a version of it in Taoism is Wei Wu Wei or "Do without doing" a sort of letting go of the pictures of how you think things should be becoming flexible to move with the breeze of Allah's Decree. When we surrender we don't lose something, in fact it's the opposite, we actually become receptive to the infinite blessings that Allah has made available to us. Surrender like a leaf floating on a river, allow Allah's Will to return you to His Ocean of Singularity on the straight path of least resistance â¨#qqdreflections
We tend to compare our inner reality of fallibility with other peoples outward illusion of perfection, making it harder to forgive ourselves than others. Godâs Mercy will always outweigh our sins, but the scales of self-hatred are often heavier than our feelings of self-love. We must learn to forgive ourselves for the things we did not know before we had the opportunity to learn them. Everybody has perfect vision when they look back in hindsight to the past, but if we want to move forward we must learn from the past not live in it. The first step to self-forgiveness begins by looking at ourselves more through the eyes of God instead of through the eyes of our worst sins. Imam Ali reminds us that, âA bad deed which you regret in your heart is a thousand times better than the good deed that makes you feel proud.â When we sin and turn to God in humility our reliance on God increases. This is why Rumi says, âWhere there is ruin, there is hope for a treasure.â The fact that God gifted us with the blessing of awareness that we sinned is a cause for gratitude because it creates a path of return to Him. Our inclination to repent is a sign that God is calling us towards Him. The devil wants us to be occupied with our mistakes because as long as we are looking at our humanity our eyes are off the Divine Perfection of God. As long as we are looking at our sins we are losing the opportunity to witness God's Forgiveness. In fact, Allah says, âWhosoever meets Me with an Earth-load of sins without associating anything with Me, I meet him with forgiveness like that.â (Muslim) It is important to be reminded that our fallibility cannot make an unchanging God love us any less. We need to stop living in regret and start living the restart. Every day God gives us is a new day, a new chance to be welcomed into the arms of Grace. As the Qurâan says, âAnd whoever keeps His duty to God, God will appoint a way out for him.â (65:02) Our God is faithful and His mercy encompasses and wraps around us more completely than the arms of a loving mother around her infant. This is why we pray to Allah, âMy Lord! Forgive and have mercy for you are the best of those who show mercy.â (23:118) Remember all of creation is created from the unconditional Love of God so our work is not to earn or deserve love but to be present with all the ways it already manifests within and around us â¨
Everything on Earth is a finger pointing to God. Everything here has the fragrance of a divine origin. As the Qurâan says, "We will show them Our signs in the horizons and within themselves" (41:53) confirming the idea that a divine signpost resides at the core of all creations and an underlying unity exists amongst all manifested multiplicity. As Allah says, âThe heavens and the Earth were joined together as one united piece and then we parted them" (21:30). The Qurâan says that you were united with all of mankind within the embrace of a single soul before you were ever dropped into a separate human mold. (39:06). In essence, God is saying everything seen and unseen in existence was once a part of you and you were a part of it. Just as the iron in your blood was made in the fusion of stars and your bones carry the dust of galaxies beyond, you were not only made for Heaven; you were made from Heaven. You are not merely living in the Universe, you are living as this Universe. The human being is the microcosm of the macrocosm, the bridge between heaven and Earth, both mortal and eternal, both body and spirit, both inclined to goodness and inclined to evil. It is the dual nature of man that allows for him to be the perfect receptacle of Godâs qualities, which is why Allah has chosen us to be His caretakers and divine representatives of love upon this Earth (02:30). Even though the angels are in constant worship and witnessing of God their perfection and lack of free will prevents them from experiencing the entirety of Godâs Attributes. How can you experience Godâs quality of mercy if you never sin? How can you experience forgiveness if you never make a mistake? The human being was perfectly made imperfect to be able to experience and reflect Godâs qualities of redemption and forgiveness that can only be experienced through the door of repentance. As the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said, âBy Him in whose hand is my soul, if you did not sin Allah would replace you with people who would sin and they would seek the forgiveness of Allah and He would forgive them.â (Sahih Muslim 2749) It is not despite the friction between our ego and our spirit that we were chosen to be Godâs representatives of Love on Earth, but because of it. Like the dark night is needed to see the stars, it is through our fallibility and sinfulness that we are able to experience Godâs Forgiveness. How amazing is our Lord? How amazing that his mercy endlessly bridges the places we fall short. #subhanAllah
Life is not about preference it is about progress. We often make the mistake of defining things we like as good and things we don't like as bad. But good and bad are not dependent on our egoist desires but based on whether something brings us closer to or farther away from God. In other words, how GOOD something is is relative to how much it helps you spiritually GROW. The Prophet (Pbuh) says "actions are weighed according to our intentions" because the human ego can make something outwardly good go bad through intention. Giving charity is a good deed, but charity given for the sake of praise and to feed the ego leads to a negative outcome. Good and evil are objective in the Divine realm, but in the dimension of the believer something generally seen as evil can be seen as "good" in relationship with our faith if it serves to foster the seeds of patience within us. As the Prophet (pbuh) said, "Amazing is the affair of the believer, verily all of his affair is good and this is not for no one except the believer. If something of good/happiness befalls him he is grateful and that is good for him. If something of harm befalls him he is patient and that is good for himâ (Saheeh Muslim #2999) This idea is profound because it is telling us that with the right frame of mind everything that happens in our life can be transformed into an opportunity to get closer to Allah. This means your heartbreak, the losing your job, the difficulty you are facing with school, the conflicts in your life, the pain, the sickness and loss can be used as a means of approaching God through humility and learning the invaluable lesson of patience. Evil exists. Outwardly bad things happen. But through faith we can transform mortal evils into eternal lessons of goodness through surrendering our attachment to how we think things should be in order to be receptive to what face of God is manifesting to us moment to moment â¨

Everybody loves to skip the tough verses. I am starting to think the toughest verses of the Qurâan are the ones that call us to emulate a Prophet (pbuh) that was sent as a mercy to all worlds. ALL worlds. Not just your community. Not just Muslims. Not just Sunnis. Not just Shias. Not just Sufis. When we make religion about âI am right, you are wrong, I have the Truth and you are misledâ we miss the whole point. The point is Love. How can you stand for a religion of love and unity with so much exclusivity? How can you stand for a religion that calls you to be a slave of love to Allah with so much arrogance? How can we say we are Muslim when the only thing we are surrendered to is our egos? It is not the verses on hell that we skip most it is the verses on minding our own business and quietly changing the world through kindness and love that we skip. We jump over the verses where God confronts us for gossiping so that we can comfortably put down others for not wearing the hijab, or drinking, or dating or whatever else it may be. Yes, it is part of our religion to advise the ones we love and have friendships with, but it is not our way to do so with judgement and criticism. We are called to call our friends to a higher reality from a place of love. I have seen thousands of messages in my life of despair, pain, anxiety, and hopelessness that you will never believe and these people do not need another critical voice they need a voice, a hand, a hug that says I love you and Allah loves you too. We need to bring the love, the kindness and compassion because it is only through softness that true change blossoms. #bekind
