More dangerous than guns or bombs are hatred, lack of compassion, and lack of respect for the rights of others. As long as hatred dwells in the human mind, real peace is impossible.

When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don’t blame the lettuce. You look into the reasons it is not doing well. It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun. You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or our family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like lettuce.

Don’t throw away your suffering. Touch your suffering. Face it directly, and your joy will become deeper. You know that suffering and joy are both impermanent. Learn the art of cultivating joy. Practice like this, and you come to the third turning of the Third Noble Truth, the “Realization” that suffering and happiness are not two. When you reach this stage, your joy is no longer fragile. It is true joy.
Thich Nhat Hanh, The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching (via abiding-in-peace)
We all have this tendency to struggle in our bodies and our minds. We believe that happiness is possible only in the future. That is why the practice of realizing “I have arrived” in the present moment, of dwelling happily in the present moment, is very important. The realization that we have already arrived, that we don’t have to travel any further, that we are already home, can bring us peace and joy. We already have more than enough conditions to be happy. We only need to allow ourselves to arrive fully in the present moment, and we will be able to touch them.
Thich Nhat Hanh (via abiding-in-peace)
The first element of true love is loving kindness. The essence of loving kindness is being able to offer happiness. You can be the sunshine for another person. You can’t offer happiness until you have it for yourself. So build a home inside by accepting yourself and learning to love and heal yourself. Learn how to practice mindfulness in such a way that you can create moments of happiness and joy for your own nourishment. Then you have something to offer the other person.
Thich Nhat Hanh, in “How to Love”. (via abiding-in-peace)
Surrender your existence to existence. Discover your spontaneity. To entertain the belief that you know what you are going to do in the future or next week is a madness. What a restriction, a limitation and a repression. Life flows spontaneously and is infinitely greater than all your plans or intensions put together. Why spoil it with hasty and vain projections? Let it be whatever it will be. Give up trying to manipulate. This is Freedom.

Our planet Earth has a variety of life, and each species depends on other species in order to be able to manifest and to continue. We are not only outside of each other but we are inside of each other. It is very important to hold the Earth in our arms, in our heart, to preserve the beautiful planet and to protect all species.
Thich Nhat Hanh (via abiding-in-peace)
I am, and I am not. I have no form. And that is why I cherish this form so deeply. I have no body. And so I can inhabit my body so completely. I have no age. And so I can live these precious years so fully, never knowing when the movie called ‘Me’ will end, timeless yet in love with time, surrendered to the Moment. I am unlimited. I have no limits. And so I limit myself in ingenious ways. I play with boundaries and edges, multiplicity and Oneness. I love dancing in the in-betweens, bridging gaps, holding on and letting go, grabbing and releasing. All movements are dear to me. I have no bias. I love the opening and the closing too. I am perfection, and so I love making mistakes. I have nothing to lose, no image to uphold. I am divinity and I am a mess. I am God and I am a weird, original, flawed, unfinished painting of a human being. I am life. I am play. I am the joy of discovery. I witness through the eyes of a newborn, through the eyes of a dying man, through YOUR eyes. I am pure paradox, complete mystery, utter wonder. You will never capture me! And yet I am here, always!

Every race experiences racism except white people because white people created racism in the first place. White people can experience prejudice, but they cannot experience racism. For example, if a person of color refuses to be friends with a white person simply because, they are white, this is an example of prejudice. This is not an example of racism because outside of this situation, white people are still favored and still have an advantage over people of color on a larger social scale. Prejudice against white people — or anyone for that matter — is still wrong, but it’s fair to say that white people don’t experience racism because racism is a power structure that benefits white people and leaves people of color at a disadvantage.
Are the oppressed or the oppressor? Do you benefit from the oppression of marginilized communities? If so take time to understand your privilege and then find ways to use your privilege to end systemic oppression and lay new foundation, such as freedom and justice! #qweenamor
In times of oppression, recognizing the privilege I have in America that allows me to embrace my sexuality (even though embracing one's sexuality in America opens one to an onslaught of vehement oppression) I will raise my voice for those who cannot because to remain silent is the greatest of act of violence. #qweenamor
