He didn't quite see the problem there, but in perspective, he was never considered somebody of fame. Was that a problem people have had? What a poor, difficult life. "Did you even know his name for the personalized autograph?" Maybe there was a fault, be he acted as if he were as disgusted by it, like it were much to his dismay as her's.

"You are Miss Westenra’s…” A pause; he was no longer a beau, nor was he a friend. The situation was painfully reminiscent of her own past; yet there was a far more important task at hand. “Miss Westenra’s friend, are you not?”

"Why yes, I am. Her friend, of course." He spoke proper to her, although confused why the way the lady paused. He questioned the need for hesitation, was she looking for an adjective. He took the inquisitive feelings he experienced towards a fellow question to her, "are you of her acquaintance?"
