WIP and some random thoughts.
I took a four-month on-line speed painting course and it helped GREATLY. Did 40+ homeworks and struggled with most of them but someday in a miraculous moment everything just... felt different. Now when I go back to my scribbles without the teacher's guidance it still feels, on track, at least, rather than making me want to bang my head against the wall screaming "something is wrong but I don't know why and I don't know how to improve it" !!!
Below are some of the homeworks I loved to study and practice (with detailed instructions from the teacher). Aside from texture and anatomy everything still goes back to the basics: volume & value. 80% of the time I was solving my biggest problem which was "cannot see the grey". No grey usually means no trasitions, thus no volume and not being able to actually going into details...
Like I said... monocle is cute.

This is a practice I did in the painting class today and I find it very cool! I think the most refreshing part is the "basic procedure" of rendering reflective surface.
It usually goes like "volume"(shadow) → "the dark core" (the darkest part you usually see on metal etc. )→ "highlight" (to indicate shape) → other details. It's extremely helpful for understanding the underlying logic of processing certain materials.
Grieving Mother. "Do you cease to see me?"
Redrew a previous piece with better surroundings. (And yes she is supposed to be holding a child.

Fun fact: the bell used to be a rather small and realistic size (so it could be hanged under the archway) in the draft. But the composition was rather dull in that way. In the end I was like: OK I don't want to be reasonable I just want a HUGE BELL!
No harm in talking (and holding hands?
