[ there was a rapid pounding on Peter’s door, Richie was leaning against the door frame, trying to seem normal. But in reality they were in utter pain. They had tears in his eyes, his body shaking due to the sheer pain. Whatever was under his skin was even fucking visible, you could see whatever it was writhing under the skin. They closed their eyes, trying to take slow beaths, fuck- he needed Pete… why isn’t he answering !? ]

After a few seconds, Pete opens the door, a concerned look on his face.

“Richie, what’s going on?” He frowns a bit, opening the door wider to invite them in.

[ they whimpered, leaning forwards and hugging the male tightly, the tears welling in his eyes spilling down his cheeks at the sight of the other. He clung to Pete’s shirt desperately, trying to find some form of comfort through the other. Peter’s question processed after a little bit of pained/panicked breathing he finally tried to answer his question, ]

“ hurts…hurts so much… “

Pete gasps quietly, immediately wrapping his arms around Richie. “Oh-.. Richie, what hurts? Why are you hurting? Did someone hurt you?” He frowns even more, clearly upset at the fact that Richie is in pain.

[ was all they mumbled, eyes screwed shut. He whimpered a little, clinging to Pete tightly. ]

Pete could feel his stomach drop. He could’ve sworn he was about to vomit. “Wi-.. Okay, um, why don’t we get you sat down on the couch, and you can tell me whatever else you need to, does that sound okay?” His voice was slightly shakey, he tried his best to mask it.

[ they let out a small whimper, clinging to Pete tightly. ]

[ he pleaded, burying his face into Pete’s shoulder. They balled the back of his shirt in his hands, breaths shakey. ]

Pete nods. “O- Okay, I won’t.. I just need to back up a bit so I can close the door, I don’t want bugs in the house.” Pete shudders at the thought of bugs. Same dude, same. He basically picks Richie up, and closes the door.

Pete rubs circles on Richie’s back, “You’re safe here, I promise. I won’t let anything get you.”

[ they slightly flinched at every touch, feeling like his skin was on fire, but they slowly relaxed, whimpering a little under his voice. They looked up at Pete with a soft, pained expression, silently pleasing for the pain to stop. ]

Pete frowns, “What hurts? Am- … Am i allowed to know?” Pete felt like he was going to cry with him. He didn’t like seeing Richie in pain.

[ Richie honestly didn’t care if he was in pain, they needed Pete’s touch. They curled into his arms, clinging to him desperately. ]

“ everywhere… “

[ they whimpered, eyes screwed shut. ]

“ don’ let go… “

“That must be hell.. I’m so sorry.” Pete pats Richie’s back gently.

“Why don’t we get you some tea or something? Maybe warmth will help..” He chews on the inside of his cheek, trying to think about other ways to help.

[ he flinched a bit at the back pat, but he didn’t move a bit, instead he shifted closer to him. ]

[ they mumbled, eyes screwed shut. ]

Pete nods, “Okay.” The taller boy picks Richie up with ease.

He sets Richie on the counter gently, then looks through a cabinet, grabbing a tea packet, and a mug. He turns on the kettle, and walks back over to Richie, putting a gentle hand on their leg. “Okay, it’ll be ready in, like.. two minutes? I assume? Maybe one? I don’t know.”

[ they nodded, leaning forward into the others touch. He let out a small breath, trying to relax, but they felt his heart beating. It hurt. It hurt his chest so much, but they had to put on a brave face. He already felt bad for going to Pete in such a state. ]

Pete smiles at Richie, “Can I get you anything else? Anything at all?”

“ I would ask for some food but I don’t know if I can stomach it… “

[ they mumbled, looking up at Pete with a soft expression. ]

He nods, chewing on the inside of his cheek, thinking.

“Uh.. I could.. make you some.. mashed potatoes? I’m pretty sure I have potatoes…” He fidgets with the hem of his shirt, looking at the tea kettle.

[ they for a second, shifting and pulling Pete close, face burying into his shoulder. ]

“ smell you… “

[ they whispered, arms wrapping around him. ]

He turns his head to look back at Richie, a faint blush dusting his cheeks.

The nerd wraps his arms around Richie, smiling. “I’ll.. take that as a ‘No’.”

[ they nuzzled his face into Pete’s shoulder, taking a deep sniff. He shifted, pressing a gentle kiss to his shoulder before biting down a bit. ]

He raises an eyebrow, giggling a little. “Trying to eat me? Good luck, I don’t think you’ll succeed.”

[ they let out a small whine before biting again, his grip on Pete’s shirt tightening a bit more. ]

He giggles, “Alright, tough guy, you gotta let me go for a second so I can pour your tea, I’m pretty sure the kettle is done.”

[ he whispered, looking up with a soft expression, there was a small glint of green in his eyes, one that clashed with the blue. ]

He sets Richie back down on the counter, putting the tea filled cup next to them. Pete kisses Richie’s forehead.

[ the other was clung close to Pete the whole time, body a mix of being numb and pain. They buried his face into Pete’s shoulder, almost refusing to look up again. ]

Pete places a gentle kiss to Richie’s cheek, then another to his forehead, then another to their other cheek.

[ they blurted out, wincing a little and grabbing their stomach. His eyes were screwed shut, breathing picking up a little bit. He hesitated before repeated it, slowly breathing. ]

[ he whispered, looking up at Pete with a guilty expression. ]

Immediately, his eyebrows raise, and he can feel his stomach drop. “W-..” He can’t talk. He can’t talk, or else he’ll start crying. It’s obvious in his face, too.

Pete subconsciously fidgets with Richie’s shirt, thoughts bouncing in his head, before finally, he speaks. “What.. kind of deal? You aren’t- .. You aren’t hurting yourself, are you? Hurting.. anyone else?” He can feel tears welling up in his eyes at the thought of Richie harming himself. He frowns, breath shaky. “This- This doesn’t change the way I feel about you. I still love you. I love you so much.” His voice cracks as he speaks. Haha nerd. I’m sorry I’m just kidding he’s my favorite little guy ever

[ Richie looked like they were bout to absolutely breakdown, tears already starting to slide down his cheeks. He shifted, hugging Pete again, wincing a little at the sudden movement. They wanted to say everything that happened but the words wouldn’t escape their throat. It was like every time he tried to speak it felt like whatever was in him tightened around his throat, almost choking them. ]

He frowned, taking his hand and rubbing one of his eyes with it, not daring to let himself cry. He hugs them back gently.

“I love you. We’ll.. We’ll get through this together.. Okay?”

He, again, places an awkward kiss to Richie’s shoulder.

Pete cups Richie’s face with his hands, being as gentle as possible. “You won’t lose me. Not ever.” He peppers soft kisses on Richie’s face.

[ they whispered, holding a pinky up with a soft expression. He needed to be promised that Pete will be okay, after everything that was happening he needed it to be promised. ]

[ they mumbled, referencing Pete offering to let him chew on him. Richie’s mouth started to water at the thought, something that made them shove everything down. It wasn’t normal. ]

The nerd groans at the noise, lifting his head up, “Cover your ears, I’m gonna yell.”

“I SWEAR TO GOD, TED. DO NOT COME INTO THE KITCHEN, RICHIE’S IN PAIN AND THEY DO NOT NEED YOU TO MAKE IT WORSE!” Ted laughs before heading upstairs. Literally me and my online sibling

[ he still flinched at Pete’s yelling, grip tightening on the back of his sweater. He clung to the taller tightly, chewing on his sweater, accidentally catching his skin under the fabric. ]

He gently pats Richie’s back, looking down at him. “Sorry about thAT-..” I imagined his voice went higher in shock because mine does that :3

“Uh, anyway, why don’t we sit you on the couch, hm? I’ll stay right with you, I promise.”

[ he mumbled, looking up at the other with a soft expression, chewing on his lip instead of Pete’s shoulder. ]

He nods, kissing Richie’s forehead. “I promise.” And with that, he picks them up gently, managing to pick up the tea as well. Yay! Multitasking! Ok anyway.

He sets Richie on the couch, careful not to hurt him or spill tea all over them. He sits next to Richie, placing a gentle kiss on their cheek.

[ they mumbled, his hand sliding into Pete’s, lightly squeezing it. He let out a small breath, eyes fluttering closed. ]

“Here, why don’t you have some o’ your tea? It should be cooled off by now. Warmth might help the pain.” Pete carefully brings the cup closer to Richie, giving them the option to accept or deny it.

[ they jumped a little, looking over at the stair before slowly sitting down. He already looked like he was affected. There was something moving under their skin, it looked like tentacles. ]

[MacNamara sat in silence for a moment with an unreadable expression. Not quite mad, not quite sympathetic.. rather indifferent. Then, after a few seconds of consideration, he gave his response.]

"That's alright. It would be cruel to blame you for actions committed at the will of.. Wiggly. It's my duty as an American and the lead of operations here at P.E.I.P to discover a solution to these problems, rather than scrutinise you for things that cannot be helped."

[He places his cigarette back into his mouth, balancing it between his teeth.]

"So that's exactly what we'll do, son. Discover a solution."

[ they hesitated before nodding, looking up at him with a soft expression. ]

“ something else has been happening… “

[ he whispered, chewing on his inner cheek. ]

[Rest assured, he was making a mental note of every piece of information given. A notepad would be easier than simply remembering everything, but often times he prefered the hard way out of things.]

[ they explained, speaking slowly in attempts to avoid getting choked by whatever it was. Sadly he failed, whatever it was wrapped around his throat, a sharp breath slipping from them. ]

"It seems the forces of the Black and White have somewhat.. Merged with your physical being."

[He stated bluntly, looking to them in a moment of realisation.]

"What's your name, son?"

[ he mumbled, looking up at him with a terrified expression. ]

"Mr Lipschitz.. Don't be so frightened. I'm not going to hurt you like others have."

[He nods reassuringly, not really the type of man to smile.]

"I'll tell you what. If Wiggly is endangering your physical form.. That's our top priority. I can take you for an x-ray, and we can get a closer look at any damage. Are you alright with that, Mr Lipschitz?"

“ I…sure… does that require me to change ? I don’t know if I’m comfortable with that… “

[ they mumbled, scratching at his arm ]

"Course not. Our technology here at PEIP is beyond the need for changing."

[John stands up, dropping his cigarette and putting it out with his boot.]

"On your feet, son. Let's get you sorted out."

[ he did as told, standing with a small wince. They stood for a second, letting his body get adjusted to the new position and vision clear out. Once they were okay, he nodded and followed close behind John. ]

"This is our medical facility, Mr Lipschitz. It's state of the art and full of the best medics in the damn country. If anything happens, you'll have an army of professionals here to help. And that's no exaggeration."

[The facility itself was a miserable matte grey, making the blue and white-gowned medical staff pop out against the environment. In every direction staff and patients alike were navigating through the corridors, seeking and giving out treatment. PEIP wastes no time in medical emergencies, as it seems.. everybody is in a hurry to get the job done.]

"If you'll follow me down here, we'll get you what you need."

[ they nodded, looking around nervously. He chewed on their nails, trying to calm down in some way. But it wasn’t working…nothing was working. Fuck it hurt. ]

"Now then. Follow my instructions carefully, and I can make this fast for you."

[John had noticed Richie's signs of discomfort quite early into the interaction.. the chewing on his cheeks, the biting of their nails. He'd always had a thing for recognising emotions through body language rather than dialogue. So, his goal was to get this done swiftly for their sake.]

"Step onto this platform.. And remain still. You can trust the technology, son."

[ he nodded, cautiously going where John told him to go. They hugged himself, standing as still as he could without locking his knees or collapsing right where they stood. ]

[Whirring machinery began to sound as MacNamara took his position behind a glass wall, the standard for an x-ray.]

"There'll be a flash, and then you'll be done. Whenever you're ready."

[He gave a nod to Richie from behind the glass, doing his best to reassure them during the process.]

[ he nodded again, lowering their arms before telling John he was ready. They flinched at the flash, a soft whimper escaping them. Once the x-ray was done he hugged himself tightly, looking back up to the other for confirmation. ]

"All done. Good work, Mr Lipschitz."

[He nodded to confirm, wandering over and helping Richie off the platform.]

"Now, we'll be able to take a look at what the internal damage is.. And from there we can assess it and find a cure."

“ okay… “

[ they mumbled, looking around again. He let out a small wince at the touch but didn’t move, not wanting to possibly set the other off. ]

[MacNamara gave Richie a quick check with a thumbs up. If he was the kind of person to smile, he would, but he was a stone-faced man, unfortunately.]

"Turn your attention here, son."

[He'd press a few buttons on a projector, eventually causing a projection to shine onto the wall behind them. It displayed the x-rays that had just been taken.]

[ the X-Ray showed the normal skeleton, but it also seemed to have something else in his skin…they looked almost like tentacles. There were a few X-Rays and they seemed to retract into something after the flash, so they were moving. ]

“ what the fuck is that !? “

[ Richie squeaked, staring at he pictured with slight panic. ]

"It seems Wiggly has planted some of his essence beneath your skin."

[MacNamara remained oddly calm at the sight of the oddities, walking over to the projector and beginning to gesture to different parts of the image.]

"As the machine was warming up, there was indeed something there. When it started flashing they must've detected us and attempted to hide further within you. Almost successful, but see here."

[He moves his hand up to the x-rays neck. A small, green mass is visible beside it. Likely a tentacle attempting to hide, just as MacNamara said.]

"It didn't quite make it. And now we know it's there. That's a step in the right direction, Mr Lipschitz."

“ how do we get it OUT !? “

[ he questioned, voice echoing a little at the end. They looked back up at the tentacle, heart beat and breathing quickening in pace. ]

"That's what we need to figure out, son."

[He raised a brow at the echo, being sure to take note of any details like that as the interaction went on.]

"I doubt that any human medicine would be able to solve your issue.. Given it's an ailment of interdimensional origin, the likely solution is it can only be cured by interdimensional means.."

“ does this mean I have to talk to the one who put this in me ? Yeah, like he’ll be letting me out of the major fuck up I did “

[ he groaned, hands sliding down their face in frustration. ]

"It means we'll have to talk to the one who did this to you. I wouldn't make you brave such a risky thing alone, son.." [MacNamara reached into his pocket and took out another cigarette, promptly lighting it as he gathered the results of the x-ray into a folder for safekeeping.] "There is a chance we won't succeed. And I won't deceive you, Mr Lipschitz, it's a sizeable chance indeed. But the chances of success are only ever slim against these creatures.. and it's the spirit of America which makes defeating them more likely." [Sometimes it's difficult to understand what he actually means through all the America talk.. really though, he can't help it.]

[ he huffed, wincing at a sharp feeling in their inner torso, causing him to grip their side and let out a small pained scream. ]

"We keep trying until we do. That's the best solution, persistance.. the Lords will eventually grow tired of an undying human spirit. They're bound to give in after-" [As Richie yelped, a sudden paternal instinct clicked and John immediately moved his arm over their shoulder to help hold him up.] "Careful now- I've got you." [He assured, an expression of concern on his face.] ".. Let's work fast before this gets any worse."

[ he whimpered, eyes screwing shut as he sort of leaned into John’s side, nails digging into his skin to try and distract themselves. ]

[He queries as he helps Richie move along, keeping him on his feet as they head out of the medical bay and into a visibly more restricted area. It's unclear what for.]

[ he explained, looking up at John with a small pained expression. It hurt him, they wouldn’t even feel love for his partner or family anymore. Everything would just be…gone. ]

[He glanced back at them with a sympathetic look.] "I see.. well, don't worry about that. That'll be our last resort, alright?" [He'd give Richie a pat on the shoulder, his go-to gesture for comfort.] "Through here is our first solution.. It's been a long time since PEIP discovered the existence of the Black Book.. the abominable time. I'm sure you're aware of it given your associations with Wiggly. PEIP has been unable to locate it as of now, but what we do have is a few loose pages dropped by a wreckless owner. Pages that I believe may have the key to fixing your problem without taking anything away from you."

[ Richie said bluntly, sticking close to John as they walked to a different room. He let out a small breath, chewing on his nails nervously. ]

[With a sigh, he repeats that information into his radio. That's something to deal with later, but this ordeal has to be solved first.]

"This is all we have for now, about 7 pages.. The chances are one of them offers something against Wiggly. A bargain, or an abolition spell."

[He sighs, placing his hands on his hips as he watches Richie take their phone out. His expression shifts to one of disdain at the mere sight of the technology.]

[ he responded, showing their message to Grace asking if he could borrow the book sometime soon. They then tapped the watch on his wrist with a small smile. ]

[He sounded like a real old man there. Despite his generally intimidating demeanour, he's not too bad.]

"I assume your friend won't take too long to respond?"

[ Richie giggled a little at how John was acting. ]

“ depends, she might be at dinner or asleep, or busy “

[ he listed, looking back down at their phone with a small huff. ]

"Your pain seems to have.. calmed slightly. I'm sure there's no harm in waiting for a response."

[John glances at Richie, his 'Dad powers' still on high alert. As a man with a son, he wants somebody like Richie to feel safe whilst on the premises, especially when haunted by beings like the Lords in Black.]

"Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself, Mr Lipschitz? I'm not a fan of small talk but it may help you keep your mind off things."

“ oh, I uh…I don’t know my parents, my dad left before I was born, and then my mom dropped me off at my uncles when I was six and disappeared. “

[ he explained, looking away a bit, chewing on their lip. ]

"Ah, your uncle. I'm familiar with him.. Mr Maul Matthews. In fact he has mentioned his nephew before.. So have some pride knowing that he really does love you. Like a son, really."

[Despite the heartfelt message, his tone is completely dry. It makes it hard to tell of he's been sarcastic or not.]

"I'm glad he helped you get back on your feet, son. He's a true red-blooded American."

[ Richie squeaked, looking up at John with now tearful eyes. ]

Pete nods. “O- Okay, I won’t.. I just need to back up a bit so I can close the door, I don’t want bugs in the house.” Pete shudders at the thought of bugs. Same dude, same. He basically picks Richie up, and closes the door.

Pete rubs circles on Richie’s back, “You’re safe here, I promise. I won’t let anything get you.”

[ they slightly flinched at every touch, feeling like his skin was on fire, but they slowly relaxed, whimpering a little under his voice. They looked up at Pete with a soft, pained expression, silently pleasing for the pain to stop. ]

Pete frowns, “What hurts? Am- … Am i allowed to know?” Pete felt like he was going to cry with him. He didn’t like seeing Richie in pain.

[ Richie honestly didn’t care if he was in pain, they needed Pete’s touch. They curled into his arms, clinging to him desperately. ]

“ everywhere… “

[ they whimpered, eyes screwed shut. ]

“That must be hell.. I’m so sorry.” Pete pats Richie’s back gently.

“Why don’t we get you some tea or something? Maybe warmth will help..” He chews on the inside of his cheek, trying to think about other ways to help.

[ he flinched a bit at the back pat, but he didn’t move a bit, instead he shifted closer to him. ]

“ yeah…sure… “

[ they mumbled, eyes screwed shut. ]

Pete nods, “Okay.” The taller boy picks Richie up with ease.

He sets Richie on the counter gently, then looks through a cabinet, grabbing a tea packet, and a mug. He turns on the kettle, and walks back over to Richie, putting a gentle hand on their leg. “Okay, it’ll be ready in, like.. two minutes? I assume? Maybe one? I don’t know.”

[ they nodded, leaning forward into the others touch. He let out a small breath, trying to relax, but they felt his heart beating. It hurt. It hurt his chest so much, but they had to put on a brave face. He already felt bad for going to Pete in such a state. ]

Pete smiles at Richie, “Can I get you anything else? Anything at all?”

“ I would ask for some food but I don’t know if I can stomach it… “

[ they mumbled, looking up at Pete with a soft expression. ]

He nods, chewing on the inside of his cheek, thinking.

“Uh.. I could.. make you some.. mashed potatoes? I’m pretty sure I have potatoes…” He fidgets with the hem of his shirt, looking at the tea kettle.

[ they for a second, shifting and pulling Pete close, face burying into his shoulder. ]

“ smell you… “

[ they whispered, arms wrapping around him. ]

He turns his head to look back at Richie, a faint blush dusting his cheeks.

The nerd wraps his arms around Richie, smiling. “I’ll.. take that as a ‘No’.”

[ they nuzzled his face into Pete’s shoulder, taking a deep sniff. He shifted, pressing a gentle kiss to his shoulder before biting down a bit. ]

He raises an eyebrow, giggling a little. “Trying to eat me? Good luck, I don’t think you’ll succeed.”

[ they let out a small whine before biting again, his grip on Pete’s shirt tightening a bit more. ]

He giggles, “Alright, tough guy, you gotta let me go for a second so I can pour your tea, I’m pretty sure the kettle is done.”

[ they didn’t let go, simply holding onto Peter. ]

[ he whispered, looking up with a soft expression, there was a small glint of green in his eyes, one that clashed with the blue. ]

“‘m just goi- …” he cuts himself off, sighing with a small smile. He picks Richie up, and pours the hot water into the cup.

He sets Richie back down on the counter, putting the tea filled cup next to them. Pete kisses Richie’s forehead.

[ the other was clung close to Pete the whole time, body a mix of being numb and pain. They buried his face into Pete’s shoulder, almost refusing to look up again. ]

He wraps his arms around them once again, squeezing him gently. “You’ll be okay, I’m here for you. You’re safe, I promise.”

Pete places a gentle kiss to Richie’s cheek, then another to his forehead, then another to their other cheek.

[ they blurted out, wincing a little and grabbing their stomach. His eyes were screwed shut, breathing picking up a little bit. He hesitated before repeated it, slowly breathing. ]

Immediately, his eyebrows raise, and he can feel his stomach drop. “W-..” He can’t talk. He can’t talk, or else he’ll start crying. It’s obvious in his face, too.

Pete subconsciously fidgets with Richie’s shirt, thoughts bouncing in his head, before finally, he speaks. “What.. kind of deal? You aren’t- .. You aren’t hurting yourself, are you? Hurting.. anyone else?” He can feel tears welling up in his eyes at the thought of Richie harming himself. He frowns, breath shaky. “This- This doesn’t change the way I feel about you. [ Richie looked like they were bout to absolutely breakdown, tears already starting to slide down his cheeks. He shifted, hugging Pete again, wincing a little at the sudden movement. They wanted to say everything that happened but the words wouldn’t escape their throat. It was like every time he tried to speak it felt like whatever was in him tightened around his throat, almost choking them. ]

He frowned, taking his hand and rubbing one of his eyes with it, not daring to let himself cry. He hugs them back gently.

[ they mumbled, referencing Pete offering to let him chew on him. Richie’s mouth started to water at the thought, something that made them shove everything down. It wasn’t normal. ]

He sets Richie on the couch, careful not to hurt him or spill tea all over them. He sits next to Richie, placing a gentle kiss on their cheek.

“Here, why don’t you have some o’ your tea? It should be cooled off by now. Warmth might help the pain.” Pete carefully brings the cup closer to Richie, giving them the option to accept or deny it.

[ they admitted, sobbing more as he cried. He was scared and in pain and they didn’t want to lose Peter, but it was too much. ]

[ they looked up with tearful eyes, sharp sobs slipping from him. They shifted, hugging Pete tightly, crying into his shoulder. ]
