I think I have some ideas of what it could mean

My first guess is that the symbol might not be related to the warriors of hope and could actually be a compass rose. This would fit with Wes's theme of finding direction and their role of being a sort of "guide" for Arei.

My second guess is that it's a symbol that has slowly morphed into something more positive since the tragedy. In drdt, I believe it's been at least a few decades since the tragedy? And since Japanese ultimates travelled outside of Japan to help the world heal from the tragedy (as stated in Min's bonus episode), it's possible symbols of the tragedy came with them, and were interpreted by the greater world as symbols of hope and justice.

I think it's possible that one or even both of these are true in some way.

I love how this also recontextualizes the treatment Arei recieved from her sisters. I would bet good money they joined in on bullying Arei because they wanted to be accepted by their new peers. They didn't want people to look at them the same way they looked at Arei, and the easiest way they could avoid that was to join in on the bullying. 'Hello new American classmates. See, we are just like you, we also think our little sister is pathetic and stupid. Please do not see us the same way you see her, we can fit in with you.' Like. It's still a horrible thing for them to do of course, especially to keep it up for years, but it makes sense for two kids trying to avoid getting targetted to take an attitude like that. racists gotta die
