Like I really hate how doing something "for attention" gets portrayed as something that only reflects badly on the person who eventually acts out in their distress instead of something that reflects badly on the people who clearly failed to make this person feel seen and supported

#and it's often done thru a lens of misogyny and ableism: “women who post selfies a lot may have mental illness”#like... so?? some people have mental illness that doesn't make them evil/morally reprehensible or less-than in some way?#we are all just humans (or however you may identify) tryna get by in this world (often with no professional support)#and more people than you realise have maladaptive coping mechanisms #maybe selfies is really just trying to make a true connection/true expression of self?#and back to the OP post: also should be a reflection of people who mistreated the person acting out

it's been said a thousand times but "male loneliness epidemic" is just our entire generation's loneliness PANdemic. it's just the crisis of capitalism. almost all young people these days are lonely and depressed because of the crisis and decay of the system we live under and tbh the centering of "male loneliness" in this discussion is embarrassing but also a really understandable consequence of sexism & this current stage of culture war . "Oh won't someone think of the young men" oh won't someone think about class consciousness lol

there’s two male loneliness epidemics. the unnecessarily gendered loneliness epidemic (see OP’s post) and “i am using lonely as a euphemism for horny”.

try it out. swap out “male loneliness” for “horniness” and the arguments for “guys need to have girlfriends, women need to stop being so feminist all the time” uhh makes more sense.

The unnecessarily gendered epidemic also isn't new and bringing it up has always more been a 'gotcha' against feminists then genuine care about loneliness. 'But what about male loneliness' has been an anti feminist line since the 1980s.

#yeah what about women loneliness of looking for platonic friends and not being able to find them #but instead being faced w a lot of (often angry or pent-up etc) horny men?#dealt with that all thru my 20s while trying to find a posse (as I called it lol) of women but horny men were just absolutely relentless #i feel for anyone that's lonely we all need connection but this entitlement/expecting of women/femme presenting to #to provide sexual gratification of men to our own detriment is unfair don't you think #many of us suffer some level of loneliness/isolation but we don't exactly expect people to jump in bed with us bc of it #and I've heard ppl say “being starved of physical touch” but what about being “starved” of platonic non-sexual-agenda-based connections?#my latter complaint is not the point. I'm just saying we all deal w someth difficult but we don't enforce sexual expectations on others #bc of it #if that makes sense #if you are a man or boy who is lonely that's fine and valid but just please don't expect women to jump in bed with you/sexual relationship #instead seek more healthy avenues to connection with other humans (we are all human after all) that aren't comditional #on their sexual availability to you #you will get thru this. please treat others with respect for their wishes and boundaries #if you treat others with compassion you may find a truly rewarding connection and the bonus may or may not be sex (not guaranteed)#also while male loneliness really needs a glow up and reframing:#there really needs to be a substantial focus of loneliness in women (especially the isolation of autistic women)#both can coexist. there should be a focus on loneliness in women loneliness in men and an overall loneliness movement #oh and the loneliness of women who have been sexually victimised by men who felt entitled to their bodies? ik “not all men”- but ENOUGH men #enough men to make it a problem #a lot of women don't have to endure/incur unwanted sexual contact/sexual trauma anymore and that should be celebrated #tw sexual harm #tw sex

Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with you. You go to your closet and you select out, oh I don’t know, that gaslight gatekeep girlboss meme, for instance, because you’re trying to tell the world that you think modern feminism has been co-opted by corporations. But what you don’t know is that that meme is not from Instagram, it's not from Twitter, it's not from Tiktok, it’s actually from Tumblr. You’re also blithely unaware of the fact that in January 2021, Tumblr user missnumber1111 posted, "today's agenda: gaslight gatekeep and most importantly girlboss." And then I think it was a-m-e-t-h-y-s-t-r-o-s-e, wasn’t it, who reblogged it with an image of the phrase edited over a piece of "Live, Laugh, Love" wall art? And then gaslight gatekeep girlboss showed up in the feeds of eight different Twitter repost accounts. Then it filtered down through Instagram and then trickled on down into some tragic “alt side of Tiktok” where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that meme represents millions of notes and countless Tumblr users and so it’s sort of comical how you think that you’ve made a choice that exempts you from Tumblr when, in fact, you’re wearing the meme that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of “stuff.”

Wow so that interview with Hannah Murray on YouTube about being sectioned has really blown up since I started watching it when it was at ~800 views — now it's at 24.5k views (and the channel has 42k subscribers so not a huge channel)

Hannah wrote a book about it btw if you wanna check that out (and avoid YouTube bc of privacy boycotts), and/or download the podcast to avoid giving traffic to YouTube

I'd also love to hear more about Lady Gaga's experiences with psychosis and bipolar, if she ever feels up to disclosing further info (thankful for what she has shared, but I must admit it wasn't all that in-depth - which I respect it being a deeply personal decision to disclose such private and vulnerable information like that, no-one owes you that info so it's very important to appreciate if/when they do share)
