I feel a bit shy posting this, but this piece means a lot to me... the idea of a character resenting their younger self, wanting to squash it, destroy it.... aghhhhhh

it is so cool that the elder scrolls wiki uses in-universe sources for their information:
I know other worlds toy with historical narratives and bias to an extent, but Tamriel has a literal academic trove of hundreds of written texts you can find and read in-game, which all from different times, with different biases, each an imperfect shard of a huge history. There is no official canon!
And there is of course a lot of disagreement in the fan communities over what should be canon and what is not - like real academia. There are schools of thought that clash, new evidence that brings sweeping changes - it's all super fascinating to see!
so george rr martin just got told to his face by a 'fan' at worldcon that he "will not be around much longer" and so he should hand over the completion of ASOIAF to brandon sanderson (who was also present at the panel)
it's disgusting to tell anyone that, but to tell an 80+ year old who has experienced the deaths of several of his closest friends in the last year, and who has spoken on the grief and depression he is still working through because of that, is beyond vile.
The amount of entitlement some people feel over an unreleased book is staggering. George does not owe a single thing to anyone. He has worked on this series for over thirty years, written over 1.7 million words for the main books alone. He is well past retirement age, yet he has repeatedly said he continues to write despite decades of vitriol, despite grief and depression and loss. George still loves this series more than anyone - certainly far, far more than some pissant who has nothing better to contribute than vitriol to the stories and communities they supposedly love.

this made me CRYYYYY GEORGEEEEEE
One of the smaller tragedies of greed is the fact that it is, as of today, right now, fully possible to make all books free and available for everyone.
All of them.
It is entirely within our theoretical power to make every published book free and open to read for anyone with an Internet connection. Piracy proves that. Digital library projects like Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg and Wikimedia, prove that. The exhaustive efforts of public domain archives is a tantalizing glimpse of what we could have. And there have been extensive efforts to digitize those old and obscure texts, resulting in tens of millions of volumes preserved from the decay of time.
There has never, in human history, never been a time when there is such potential for the free exchange of writing and ideas. We have the infrastructure. We have the material. It is solely the drive for money that does not allow you to read what you want to read.
I love when the DE skills mess up.
