occasionally younger fans will find and comment on my older fanfics and I never know how to respond because I can't quite match their enthusiastic energy anymore. I know they're children because they're calling stuff I wrote when I was 14 or 15 the greatest story they've ever read. lol no it isn't. and I feel embarrassed anyway because, again, I wrote that stuff 6 years ago when Ninjago had not finished yet and I'm afraid nothing I wrote is canon compliant anymore? yeesh.

it's really fascinating how seemingly unimportant dialogue in the pilots led to foundational Ninjago lore.

like when Cole claims he isn't scared of anything in this world, then Zane says "Except for dragons," then he responds "Dragons aren't from this world." and we all know about the multiple realms by now, including the realm of dragons (and oni).

Garmadon's fall to evil is hinted as him being corrupted by lust for power (embodied in the Golden Weapons) but in later seasons we'd find there's more to it than that.

there's more stuff probably, I gotta finish watching them instead of pausing every 2 sec to take notes lol

revisiting the pilots, I'm curious about this exchange from e2....

Kai: I sense this one takes things a little too seriously.

Zane: You too have the gift?

Jay: Heh, he's just making a joke, Zane. Remember what we talked about? Your sense of humor?

I wonder what that conversation might have looked like, or what could have led to it. I imagine Jay must have made a joke Zane didn't get, so Jay had to explain himself. Cole isn't one to use humor too often (unless it's dry remarks or he's gloating) so it probably wasn't something he said.

also understanding why autistic kids like Zane so much. speaking as one myself here. I think I had this exact exchange when I was a teenager before I learned to laugh along with jokes even if I didn't understand them.

BUT ALSO. omg I forgot Zane used to have this sixth-sense thing going on before he was revealed to be an android. I wish the writers didn't also forget about that. retrospectively that makes the scene with him following the hawk make more sense.
