Please fucking lie to your employer. Like they don’t need to know your mental health issues or what drugs you do. Ffs
its not lying if its to employers or cops
and look up ur rights on what they can and cannot ask u many places ban asking about ur record and transportation status and things like that resources will also tell u how they reword sketchy questions so ur prepared
Hey. Take it from a former HR person… this goes double right now. I just spent some time putting in some job applications myself (not for HR, lol) and got about 15 interviews. And idk if it’s because of COVID uncertainty or if places just don’t fucking care anymore because they know people are desperate for work, but the amount of straight up illegal shit my interviewers asked me was appalling. (That’s not even counting the questions that were technically legal but clearly fishing for information they’re not legally allowed to ask.)
A tame example? Two questions into a phone interview, the guy on the other end of the line asked: “How old are you?” I said “Excuse me?” - giving him a chance to rethink that. He didn’t. “How old are you?” “Sir, you are not allowed to ask me that question.” “Well, I want to know. I’m asking.” “And you’re legally not allowed to ask me that. I’m not required to tell you my age.” At that point, I guess he managed to remember an old HR bulletin or something (I hope to god he wasn’t actually HR himself), and he said, “Well, I need to know if you’re over the age of 18.” (Which is what he should have asked in the first place… or not, since that was in the application that he could have read.) “Yes. I’m over the age of 18.” And we moved on. Two questions later, he tried another illegal question. I called him on it again and ended the interview, citing that a workplace with such a clear disregard for the law, especially upon first contact with a potential employee, was not going to be a good fit. (They offered me the job anyway, lol. I didn’t send a thank-you or a response.)
At a different interview, the majority of questions were “fishing” questions - just looking for that info they’re not actually allowed to ask. (This person was also either not really HR or an HR person who was exceptionally bad at their job.)
I could tell they were getting frustrated when I dodged answering the personal stuff, and they actually got extremely upset when I mentioned later in the interview (re: less relevant work experience) I had worked in HR. They were super flustered for the remainder of our time, and I watched them skip over questions on their sheet they had clearly planned on asking. They KNEW they were being sketchy and were counting on me not knowing anything about HR - or my rights - and so they got upset when I did. These were super tame examples. I’m begging you, if you’re job searching right now, PLEASE know your rights. Please know what interviewers are allowed to ask. Please don’t volunteer information or elaborate more than you’re required to about personal things. Save your words (and everyone’s time) by elaborating why you’re good for the position/what you can do. I may create a resource list on this shit later but PLEASE PLEASE KNOW THIS STUFF BEFORE YOU TALK TO AN EMPLOYER. This goes for anywhere you’re interviewing as well as your current employer. This also goes for HR. HR may be the person you go to when shitty stuff happens, but that doesn’t mean they’re your friend (or competent). They don’t need to know your age (beyond 16+, 18+, or 21+, depending on the job). They don’t need to know your medical history. (For the love of god, do NOT answer the “have you been diagnosed with depression?” question.) They don’t need to know if you have kids or whatever. They don’t need to know a LOT of those things that may appear on an application, including your veteran status, whether you’re on/have been on unemployment, etc. They’re not entitled to know specifics about your transportation (unless you’re using that transportation for the job, like Uber/delivery drivers). Look this up for your state/the job’s state. Beware questions like “What year did you graduate?” if you’re like me and don’t put dates on your resume (I just put amount of time spent at employers, not dates of employment). They’re fishing for your age. It’s “Oh, you know, 100 years ago,” if you feel comfortable making a joke, or “About [generic number, like 5 or 10] years ago” if not. Also beware things like the “What do you do in your free time?” question, even if you already work there. This is not a friendly getting-to-know-you question. This is a basis for judgement. Not up to an invisible standard? They’re going to be biased against you for pay raises, promotions, etc. Mention kids/lots of family/social engagements? That’s a tick against you for not being the kind of person who lives to work (yes, it’s gross and stupid). Mention lots of solitary things? Cool, that’s their mental note to ask more from you because you’re “not doing anything anyway.” By all means, be friendly with your coworkers/talk about shared interests if you want, but it is none of your boss’s business, and be aware what could get back to them. Don’t. Tell. Employers. Shit.
*Tips for beginners of My Time at Portia*
Spend as long as you’d like gathering resources for your future building plans, UNTIL THE SECOND you hand in your Builders License. THAT is when the game “officially” starts and you’ll start getting nagged to do people favors and such. Take your time in this moment and stock up.
Never spend a second doing nothing early in the game (level 1-30 at least)
Always preoccupy yourself by doing whatever relevant activity is nearby where you need to go next.
*********Things To Do When You’re a Low Level*********
Gathering* herbs, loose sticks and stones
Kicking trees* (ALWAYS DO THIS WHEN YOU’RE FREE AND A LOW LEVEL)
Mining* small rocks with a beginners pickaxe if you’re able to make one yet
Mining medium rocks if you’re able to
Chopping* down thin trees and small bushels with a beginners axe Mine*! and HOARD resources to sell/use for later
Fight Low Level enemies that spawn around Portia / nearby wherever you’re traveling from and to.
EXPLORE -!
Play Rock, Paper, Scissors with residents, Spar them, play Cross Five with Isaac in the town Center, go have a late-night talk/walk with Ginger.
Every day (or night as i should say) some/most of the residents of Portia gather at Peach Plaza / in front of The Commerce Guild at 19:00, if you can, take the time to be there and:
Get to know the residents. If you see someone running past you, talk to them for a second, if even for the relationship points alone. This will also help you decide on prospective Sweethearts you may want to date or eventually marry later on.
Take a couple minutes [in real time] to talk to the residents whenever you can. The game pauses time once you start dialogue with an NPC; you can take your time. However it’s usually as fast and simple as clicking once to initiate the conversation and then the chat icon once more for the relationship point to be given. Only one point per person can be given per day. Exuding the points for gifts given on any day as well as gifts given on the particular persons birthday in which you are given bonus relationship points. Looking for chests (only go out chest hunting first, in places you know you’ve seen one before and two a safe area you’ve traveled before and have space in your inventory for 2+ items (best case scenario??) per chest Be ready to spend a lot of time running around which brings me to Bring apples with you when you know you are running out of stamina/ going to be or even if you are training a skill. Aroma Apples work as well, but use them wisely as they’re harder to come by than regular apples. (Apples restore STAMINA. Aroma apples restore more than regular apples. ALSO sitting down for hours restores stamina and costs NOTHING early on.) Always be building / working on something! *DONT SPEND A PENNY EARLY ON UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY* Gols are so very hard to come by until you start accepting commissions so do not go to the town and squander any gols early in the game. At 3 a.m the game will forcibly teleport you back home and into your bed. You will wake up the next day in your home at 7 a.m. Each NIGHT slept in bed is a DAY of gameplay saved. Very early on, you should be able to build a simple Stone Furnace. Make doubles, triples even. The fuel for these are Wood. Doing this should help boost your productivity in the long run. If you can’t figure out how to make something I suggest checking your Worktable, or Pa’s Handbook. Dont/s:
Don’t touch water, AT ALL. You won’t die though, so don’t worry. Just a minor inconvenience when the game refreshes (from the exact same spot you were in) because your foot touched water.
Don’t fight enemies higher than yourself
Don’t open all chests at once when you’re a beginner, it’s easy to run out of space and the item will drop on the ground
***Resources to hoard when you’re a low level***
Stone (mining, gathering loose stone)
Soil (mining)
Sand (mining, gathering shells on beaches)
Copper (mining)
Herbs (gathering herbs)
Wood (gathering loose Wood, cutting thin trees)
Apples, APPLES, APPLES (kicking Apple Trees)
Aroma Apples (kicking Apple Trees)
Plant fiber (cutting ground bushels)
Mushrooms (Gathering mushrooms)
Shells (Gathering shells near bodies of water)
Rubber Fruit (kicking trees)
Snake Berries (gathering herbs)
Caterpillars (gathering herbs/tree kicking)
Animal feces (gathering feces) sounds gross but you can make fertilizer with animal feces which is essential for farming later Birds Nest (kicking/chipping trees) To collect the items inside of the nest, “use” the item while it’s in your quickbar. It should drop anywhere from 1-3 data discs, tail feathers and eggs ITEMS TO GATHER FROM LOW LEVEL COMBAT* Mr ladybugs drop: bug eggs, fiber cloth, mucus, blue scarf Colorful Llamas drop: worn fur, meat, animal bones, feces Madcrabs drop: meat and a handful of gols Snailob drops: meat, shell, lobster meat, mucus Sea Urchin drops: meat, spines, shell, seaweed panbat drops: worn fur, teeth, meat, bat wing **Illusion bunny (Level 20+): meat, delicate fur, handful of gols Quick Tip: When you befriend the residents of Portia, on your birthday each year in game they rush over to your house and leave you a gift on your lawn. There is a potential for 40+ gifts to be received by the Builder
Top 8 My Time at Portia Tips & Tricks
I have been obsessed with My Time at Portia lately. From the cute gameplay, the nice storyline, My Time at Portia is the perfect RPG for Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon lovers.
If you’re into such games, you can check out My Time in Portia or a mobile version of Stardew Valley, Harvest Town.
Hoard Everything
My Time in Portia is one of those games that rewards you for hoarding stuff. Even if you get something that seems useless now, keep it because you will need it in the future.
My suggestion is to create many Storage Boxes and label them accordingly. By Summer you will have over a dozen boxes if you spend some time arranging your items.
Do remember to separate relics from abandoned ruins #1 and abandoned ruins #2.
No Gols? Go fishing
One of the problems you will face earlier in the game is the lack of gold. When that happens, go fishing. The fishing mechanics are easy to learn and if you get an Emporer fish or King fish, that will sell for lots of Gols.
A few tips for fishing:
Tap the bubble and not hold on the bubble
Buy your bait from Sophie’s Ranch. You can pick them up from the bushes but they are never enough if you are planning to fish for a few hours.
Sell when the Market Price is above 100% and Buy when the Market Price is below 100%
100% is the original price. Wait until the Market is around 70% before buying the item. If you are selling your items, wait until the market is around 130% before selling.
According to my experience, my market ranges from 70% to 130%. Others say there’s 140% but I have yet to see that.
Do note, the market will stay at a low rate or a high rate for some time so be patient.
Some people suggest buying things that are below the market price to sell back when the market price changed to above 100%. However, from my observations, that does not bring in a good profit.
Just go fishing.
Take your time on Storyline Commissions
Most storyline commissions do not require you to complete them in a short period. You can take as long as you need or more. I did not complete the bridge commission until the last week of Spring.
By not completing these storyline commissions immediately, it gives me time to collect resources like wood, ores and stones to prepare for the future. Collecting resources is important since the story progress quickly once you finish certain storyline commissions.
You can see if the commission needs to be completed at a certain timing by seeing the bottom left corner of every accepted commission listing.
Do note, even though your story is not moving, your daily interactions with the citizens will improve your relationships faster than the storyline. That will pose an issue shortly.
Certain Relationships can only Progress after You unlock certain Storylines
I’m looking at you Arlo.
One of the examples is Arlo’s relationship. If you do progress with the relationship quickly, you will find him waiting at the other side of the bridge that you have not built because you are so far back with your storyline progress.
In short, if you want to stop doing the storyline to collect resources, stop interacting with the citizens.
Exchange Stones for Wood at A&G
Going at a 1 to 1 rate, this tip is very handy if you spend days mining and now you have no wood for your machines. When that happens, go to A&G to exchange your stones for wood.
Build The Dee Dee Commissions Ahead of Time
If you are interested in the City Transporter Achievement on steam, you will have to hear this tip.
Build 5 Dee Dee Commissions ahead of time.
Complete The Cave at Amber Island on a Thursday and you will get the commission for the Dee Dee Transport the next day or the day after. You can submit the Dee Dee Commissions one after another.
You want to do this during a holiday or a weekend so that Higgins would not snatch these commissions from you. Higgins has the power to take the storyline and regular commissions from you as much as you can take from him.
When there is a storyline commission on the board, you can take 1 storyline commission and 1 regular commission at the same time. You can complete multiple storyline commissions in a day but you can only complete 1 regular commission per day.
Submit Storyline Commissions right before a weekend or a special event
To safeguard the commissions from Higgins, you have to snatch them before the weekend or before a special event. Thus, submit your previous storyline commissions on a Thursday or Friday.
There are two early commissions you should take note of Dee Dee Transports and the street lamps.
My Time in Portia is a great game for those who love farming /crafting games with a storyline. I like how they even adding the fighting elements in the game so it stands out from your usual farming game.
