A character type that I like in kidlit is when there's an adult who means well and may nominally have some authority but is spiritually just kind of a big kid themselves and the kid protagonists will have to help them out of a jam. Like a kind but feckless uncle archetype. Guy who is at least 27 years old but is deferring to this adolescent child because he has An Endearing Character Flaw

And on the one hand I'm always like "every character type that I like for dudes. We should put women in it too. We should have Feckless Uncle Friend (F)" but on the other hand female characters getting infantilized and assumed as incompetent and having their authority usurped by any protagonist-coded rando who rocks up... ... is endemic

I'm sure we have creators who can thread this needle as is, and have done so. But if we destroyed the patriarchy first we could have even more failwomen without any troubling subtext. Life could be a dream

I am a person with dark hair and glasses and this is a very common phenotype worldwide, like... Most people have dark hair and many people wear glasses. I am very accustomed to people telling me "you remind me of [other person with very common phenotype]!" Often there is nothing else in common between me and that person.

But a friend of my brother's has children who are 5 and 2 and I was the first person of that type they had ever met. So they keep saying other people look like me. And asking their parents to ask my bro when I can hang out. Because I'm so cool everyone else looks like me
