I just rewatched 4x4 and i couldn't stop thinking about the parallels between jack (the rugaru) and sam, first of all theres the famous "its not what you are, its what you do" which later turns to "its not what you do, its what you are" and i think its so beautiful how they showed how sam treated jack, he treated him the way he wished (and practically begged dean the whole episode) to treat him.
And then theres the scene where jack raises his head and his mouth is covered in blood which immediately made me think of this scene ↓
And i just love it so much, sam was so so desperate to be good only to be shut down by basically everyone else, who told him he's just evil and thats it, thats his destiny and there's nothing he can do about it. And what makes it worse (or better if you ask me) is that he always proved them right. I mean yes, ruby manipulated him into the demon blood thing but the reason it worked, the reason he even went to ruby in the first place was because he felt like he was pushed into it by everyone else. cus he was so desperate to prove he's good.
Just like jack was kind of pushed into killing the other hunter. because the hunter already believed he was evil and treated him that way, he already treated him like a bloodthirsty monster so the only thing jack could do to save his wife was to prove the hubter right by killing him and becoming the bloodthirsty monster he was already assumed to be.
I am fully convinced that if jack was just given the chance he could've been good, he would've chosen to be good. But they didn't give him an option.
JUST. LIKE. SAM.
If dean would have given sam the time and space to process everything and tried to help him through it instead of just going "no! Bad sam!" Sam would have NEVER come to ruby. He didn't like her, he never did.
I hate how both the show and fandom treat the whole thing with ruby as "the time sam betrayed dean for a demon" but the whole reason he came to that demon was because he felt like he had no other choice. DEAN didnt gave him an option.
anyways... @radiopilot
