The Rerun - Let's talk about it.
If you're a member of the Hazbin Hotel fandom, more specifically the Murdermedia/radiostatic community, you most likely have heard about it's most popular fanwork 'The Rerun'.
And going on from this, you would have heard of it's recent discourses across multiple platforms - twitter, tumblr, tiktok etc. One of two things, the creator having been on hiatus for god knows how long and well, its confirmed use of ai.
"Oh but, how could this be?? There's no way of knowing!!"
Well thanks to our wonderful friend of the great Archive, user @heatedrivalryai on twitter released a Google document covering html code through source pages that reveals whether or not a 'author' used Claude AI in their works.
Upon a friend sending me this document, I had a look through its heavily detailed and correctly referenced reports and am to believe it is extremely accurate and reliable.
(Here is a link to the document for those curious!!) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YyFKLzunnvVJRDTql5nHJwBb-swxIftn/view?pli=1
So running these tools through the fics source codes, i found over 1,000 uses of ai. Which is both horrible and disgusting to see, giving the large fanbase that this work has built, with hundreds of artists having given their time and REAL talents towards a project they deemed worthy of said skills.
An example of this would be Hazbin Hotel animator @silentzound, who made a post 24 hours ago about the upsetting news of the creator quitting. It is safe to assume that at this point in time, they were unaware of the ai 'allegations' and had only heard word on the creator deleting the work and quitting.
It is truly so upsetting to see posts like these, I know how it feels to see your favourite work be deleted and thrown away.
But other than the author - known as "Leech" on discord, quitting and deleting as much evidence of having existed in the first place, both I and a few anonymous people on discord have scrounged up information.
The first thing I would like to show for context is the message a mod left in the official rerun server (hosted by leech) that was named "Jonestown if it was good". A, that is a disgusting name and I had no idea what it had meant until recently. And B, I was never very active in said server, and only used it as a announcement channel for when updates were released / discussion on said new chapters.
So i know very little to none about what happened between leech, the moderators and the active members. All information I have is from a second-hand source of a small gathering who got together after the crisis of server members being suspended before being banned. I was told that he and his mods (a common one being 'clowncat') made crude comments with and towards minors, allowed his members/mods to racially profile members, as well as 'acting like a total dick' to everyone due to his 'personality.' Again, i have no substantial proof for this other than people's word.
(borrowed screenshots from other members)
A conversation I and another were having after the big announcement (which i will show soon) before both being suspended. (theyre here TO SILENCE ME ToT)
At this point in time, the ai usage were still allegations and no one had left substantial evidence. We were focused on the leech's announcement left through a moderator.
From this, there are many conclusions that can be drawn. Three key points:
What kind of asshole doesn't make this announcement themself??
continuing to lie about the ai allegations knowing damn well you used it. just admit to your faults?? WHY continue to lie.
and of course, what a coincidence that you quit the same time period as the allegations arising??
Whilst this report should remain not, I will become bias in the fact that the usage of ai in fanworks should not be condoned nor supported, whether the 'author' is open about it or not. And, if you DO use it, do not claim the work as your own. Yes, it was your idea to prompt the AI in the first place, but you did not craft for hours therefore it is not yours. Simple enough, no?
Apparently not for the great minded Leech, who has not been heard from other than deleting his server. (not the fic yet, surprisingly.)
After this announcement of removing himself from the fandom and community, he went on to say that he wishes to still join other servers and talk with the people. HELLO????
As I previously said, I never spoke with any of these people and therfor do not know how close leech was with them, but it seems a bit egotistical of the sorts considering his past with being a total asshole. (which i will cover more on his past once i wrap up this ai bullshit)
Basically, if you weren't convinced enough already, I myself ran the given html codes to cement substantial proof of AI usage with Claude.
Whilst this method will not work for all AI using fics, neither will it be much use in the future as 'authors' will start to find ways around it, it is extremely useful for pre-existing works.
oouhh bonus twitter screenshot, i dont have much to say on it but if people were curious. (i dont have the orginal post i just have this that i uh... borrowed...)
Okay! So we have a basic idea now - Leech used Ai ro write a fanwork, got caught, ditched really weirdly and unprofessionally, and now everyone is tryna pick up the scraps!
Well would you believe me if I said this wasn't the... first time this has happened... in a way, that is.
See after doing spme discussing with friends/acquaintances of Leech's, I found out that he apparently wrote the third most popular Gravity Falls fanwork for its time. Take this with a grain of salt, as people can be wrong/misleading, and that last thing i want to do... is spread misinformation!! (hah. get it. okay fuck you.)
According to what information I have, in a previous point of time, (no dates im sorry im a bum) Leech had a similar community and situation that he has now - huge, famous fanwork, server and fan space on discord with fans he hated, and going on hiatus before ditching.
I tried my hardest to search for this fanwork and for more evidence of it being true, but as a newbie to the shittalking-people-with-proof, i was unlucky. like i said, do not take this as factual, but more so something to consider when approaching your viewpoint on leech.
For now, I believe i have addressed everything I had wished to talk about. I talk a lot, wanted to talk a lot, and am also a nobody who just felt like they needed to well, talk about it.
I am HOPING that this post gets even a little bit of traction, as i really enjoy piecing together things like this, given the opportunity.
In summary, The Rerun fanwork on Archive of Our Own has been proven to be AI Generated using Claude AI, with the creator known as Leech having quit in a confusing way.
Here i have attached PDF versions of The Rerun, for whatever reason you may wish to access it.

Thank you for your time, please keep in mind this is technically my first time making a post like this, any additional information / tips for improvement is appreciated!! have a great day everyone <3
I always enjoy reading someone doing proper research before they do an accusation (although some of it is hearsay you give evidence that supports what you've heard). I knew some of this, but definitely not all of it so your work is appreciated.
I tested out the skin in Ao3 and yup, the story got got pure red all right (it was either chapter 2 or 3 that I tested it). I then checked through the code and though I don't know how to pick out each instances used, just scrolling down and reading through the code I was met with 'claude' over and over again. Real easy to see if you know what to look for. I would recommend everyone to use this code: it may not protect from all AI, but at least it projects you from stories copied from Claude.
Fortunately, I pretty much only read finished stories nowadays so I wasn't invested in The Rerun, but I had heard about it from the grapewine on Tumblr. I saw how many people were disappointed and honestly sad that something they enjoyed turned out to not be real. I've been having some thoughts that I wanted to write down and your research gave me a good opportunity for it. Again, appreciated.
I. Absolutely despise AI. I want it to die. I want it to disappear. I never even learned how to use filters or Photoshop, because I believe photos shouldn't be manipulated, so to have to live in a world where some people just doesn't even care to create anything, because all they care about is "the product" and the clicks and the attention... For me, creativity was always about passion above all else. Not the kind of passion that drives people to hound creators when they're going to crank out the next chapter/artpiece/project/season and tells people that like another ship to kill themselves. I'm talking about passion given by the muses. Having an idea, working on it, polishing and looking at it being finished after all the work you put into it. If other people liked it, fine, but that's never been the point. It's seeing something that was only in your head take physical form, bit by bit... I loved that. I still love that. Which is why AI is my mortal enemy and shall remain so until my dying days.
There are two frustrating things that's on my mind because of this situation:
1) The distrust it feeds into in a space that should be a place to relax and forget the world a little. Both readers not wanting to read AI stories and having to play detective to try to figure out whether there's a human behind the story or not, and writers being afraid that either their stories will be stolen or that they will be accused of using AI when they aren't. Especially those like me who likes to completely finish a story before uploading it, even if it's split in chapters. (I tried doing the 'upload when a chapter is done' thing. Got really anxious because of the pressure I put on myself. So now it's all or nothing. It's the reason I haven't uploaded a story in a good while: I'm working on a lot of them at the same time). This distrust takes a lot of the joy out from these fandom spaces, and that's unacceptable in my eyes.
2) Despite most of the readers condeming the use of AI, there were also a surprising amount that defended the use. Obviously I don't condone threats or telling someone to kill themselves: being an asshole doesn't mean you should be an asshole too; that just makes two assholes. But saying that there's nothing wrong with using AI, that you don't care that they're using AI... That grinds my gears. Aside from the obvious that it's using STOLEN WORK that another person put their blood and sweat into, AI-companies are fucking monsters. The datacenters that steals the water and produces a sound so terrible that animals flee and drives people insane (because being accosted by that kind of noise 24/7 is a FUCKING TORTURE PRACTISE; the VD:s thats throwing money at country leaders to make them rule in their favours; their propaganda that "this is the future and we'll leave you behind if you don't get onboard" that people for some fucking reason have swallowed (no shit these companies say that - THEY'RE THE ONES SELLING THE FUCKING PRODUCT!) And the stupidity it breeds... What's wrong with learning a language properly?! What's wrong with doing proper research using proper sources?! What's wrong with writing a fucking e-mail?! What's wrong with actually trying your best on a test to see what you've learned instead of cheating using AI?! ...All this to say, no use of Generative AI is excusable; no matter how little you use it, you make the billionaire AI-bros get richer and more powerful, you help destroy society and nature, and you get fucking dumber.
Wow. Reading all this back, I really needed to get this out of my brain. But I don't want to be all doom and gloom. From what I've seen, there are companies that are starting to realise that AI didn't actually save them money, and of course there's been millions of people being against it from the start. The bubble might be about to pop (one can always hope).
In the meantime, we can do little things. Use the code that catches Claude in fanfics. Don't use CHAT-GPT or any kind of AI-tool knowingly. Don't beat yourself up too hard if you happen to get tricked sometimes, it happens to all of us. And most importantly: Create for yourself. One of the reasons why AI managed to get hold is because people are obsessed with the dopamin rush that comes from the attention, the clicks and likes and subscription and everything else, that they're just after that kick. It's also why a lot of creators have no edge, because they try to throw as wide a net as possible to get as many people to see them as possible. But trust me, if you create something you truly love, something that you take pride in for the work you did on it... It doesn't matter how many strangers like or dislike it, because you created something and that's beautiful.
Anyway, I feel better now. Have a good weekend, everyone, and don't let assholes ruin your creative fun!
I’ve just had a read through your comment and oh my fucking god THANK YOU!!! you are so right in every way, generative ai IS utter bullshit and shoukd not be defended whatsoever. I tried to stay as civil as i could on the topic but it’s something i fucking despise so so much.
the lack of creativity that fandom spaces are now holding more and more commonly is killing both i and others so slowly, with no real escape from any of it.
anyways, bless you so much for having read and enjoyed this. it means a lot and im glad my work made someone appreciative. 💜💜
I know they had to for the plot but...
they didnt have to eject my fav yellow they could have just tested with the vents 😭
