let’s be honest though, millennial hate is totally a thing rich folks started because they’re pissed that we have really unpredictable consumer habits and it isn’t as easy to get us to buy into stuff, so they’re mad we aren’t just money giving/traditional economy supporting machines like they expected us to be

like look at how much millennial hate articles are things like “millennials aren’t eating cereal and it’s hurting the cereal industry” or “millennials aren’t buying houses and that’s bad” or “millennials #1 utmost priority isn’t trying to make as much money as possible” and rich folks are mad about it, so just posturing our unpredictability/nontraditional values as “laziness” gets everyone else on board the hate train in some weird attempt to collectively subdue us

I'm having so much fucking trouble eating lately. And partly it is deliberate, but mostly I just feel so disgusting that food doesn't even tempt me. I take rejection really hard, and being rejected for shit I can't control, really brought back my control issues with food. I'm forcing myself to eat once a day, but everything tastes like nothing. Between a broken knuckle and a bruised ego I can't even feel the hunger. I just feel numb. I was about to eat lunch and then that guy showed up and my stomach is churning and I'll have to just try again later.... :( fuck fuck fuck

There are so many comments on this post saying things like “Australians aren’t that racist” or “well maybe we are but we aren’t as bad as X country” or “this is an isolated incident don’t judge us all” or “wah wah wah i can’t handle acknowledging that I am a part of an oppressive system”

As recently as SATURDAY, our Prime  Minister alluded to the idea that there was nothing in Australia before colonisation. 

Around one quarter of Australians are anti-asian and just over a quarter are prejudiced against Indigenous Australians. 

In August our PM said that Australia’s defining moment was the first fleet, despite this being a disastrous time in history for Indigenous peoples. Indigenous Australians are not recognised as the First Peoples in the constitution (and as a result customary law cannot be recognised or used fully).  There are still parts in the constitution that allow Indigenous Australians to be discriminated against meaning legislative changes can be made that only affect Indigenous Australians.  Indigenous Australians make up over a quarter of the prison population, despite only being 2.5% of the total population of Australia. 55.1 Indigenous children per 1000 are in out-of-home care compared with 5.4 non-indigenous children per 1000. In NSW this rises to 83.4 children per 1000 for Indigenous kids.

This is just a SMALL sample of examples of racism or results of racism. Australian society as you know it, is built on racism. Stop pretending it doesn’t exist.

People on such short trips usually don’t stick around long enough to realize how ineffective they are being.  In Uganda, I got used to seeing groups of young people come for week-long visits at the orphanage where taught English. They would play with the kids, give them a bracelet or something, and then leave all-smiles, thinking they just saved Africa. I was surprised when the day after the first group left, exactly zero of the kids were wearing the bracelet they had received the day prior. The voluntourists  left thinking they gave the kids something they didn’t have before (and with bragging rights for life). But the kids didn’t care, because what they really wanted was school uniforms, their school fees to be paid, guaranteed meals, basic healthcare, and the like — the basics.   Worse, they can even be harmful to children who struggle with abandonment issues.  This should not be understated; have you ever considered the negative impact it routinely has on kids after they bond with someone for a week, and then that person disappears from their life? If your justification for going on these trips is “seeing the smiles on the kids’ faces”, then you’re part of the problem.
