top and botom confuse the ever livin fuck outa me. i've sin a lot of difirent meenins for em. what would u say they meen? is a top sum1 who is the person who penitrats the other person or r they sum1 who is fysicily on top? cuz those rn't always the same person. like if their doing cowgirl the penitrata is on the bottom.

I get it, the terms can be confusing!

In queer slang, a “Top” (noun) is the one penetrating their partner. Could be a penis, a strap-on, a toy, or fingers. Doesn’t matter. A “bottom” (noun) is the person being penetrated. ”Switches” enjoy penetrating their partners and being penetrated as well. The terms “Top” and “bottom" arose because, in many positions, the person penetrating is “on top” of their partner. But they don’t refer to positions anymore! If the penetrator is on the bottom, like in cowgirl position, they are still “topping”.  Some people don’t define themselves in terms of top or bottom at all! They just like what sex acts they like, and don’t want to label it or be put in a box. That is also totally valid. There are many different ways to view sex outside the Top/bottom lens. It’s just an easy short hand some people in the community use to communicate how they want to have sex. All of this is *entirely separate* from the terms “Dom” and “sub”. Dominants run the show and give orders (usually by asking what their submissive wants in advance). Submissives obey their dominants. You can have submissive Tops and dominant bottoms! They’re called service Tops and power bottoms, respectively.

This is gonna sound like a weird, random question. I've Googled for the answer to this and can't seem to figure it out. But you're one of the people I follow who seems to know their shit when it comes to matters of sexual preferences. Anyway, I'm a cis woman and I got to wondering... like, many people with vaginas feel the deep desire or urge to have something inside of us when we are horny. Our vaginas even ache for it and we know that's what we want. Do queer men/people with prostates/and I guess people who just like butt stuff also feel this same kind of urge? Or is it something humans have just discovered through trial and error/experimentation?

Some do, yes! It's called being a bottom. 😂 Bottoming transcends gender and biological parts. Some of us just reallllly like penetration. I think more cis men would like bottoming if it weren't frowned on by our heteronormative society.

There are exceptions, though. Plenty of women, men, and nonbinary folks are tops and/or don't like penetration. I think it's less about gender and more about what role each person wants to play in the bedroom.

Bottoms aren't always submissive, either! Some bottoms want to be penetrated, but also run the show. Hence the term "power bottom".

We, the bottoms of the world, are just lucky we have tops of all genders to satisfy us! Remember to thank your top (or switch) today. 💕

Any advice on writing bodily actions, especially in erotica, without using the same old descriptors over and over again? I feel like I just keep recycling the same 'chest heaves,' 'bites her lip,' etc. kind of descriptions over and over again. Or am I overthinking it, lol?

There will be a little repetition. It's unavoidable. But try focusing on the emotional reaction! I think whatever the characters are feeling is what really makes the smut hot, rather than the physical stuff. End of the world sex vs. soft first time sex vs. heavy BDSM sex are all really different and inspire different emotions.

do you have any tips for writing a multichap fic for the first time? i want to try, but ive only written one shots (longest being around 20k) and the idea of filling chapters with actual plot stresses me out. coming up with conflict and storylines seems so intimidating.

This is just me, but I swear by an outline. Some people reflexively push back when they hear the word “outline”, but it doesn’t have to be a lot! It can be flexible! I recommend doing it like this.

Chapter One: Rowan, a vampire hunter, is awakened from a petrified state by the kiss of a young vampire at a masquerade ball. She realizes years have passed since she failed her mission to kill Countess Whatshername (I don’t have the name yet...:skull:). Reluctantly, she allows her unexpected savior to help her escape. They’re almost caught by the Countess that Rowan was sent to kill, but they manage to slip out.

Chapter Two: The hot vampire explains that she is one of the Countess’ spawn. She wants to see the Countess taken down and enlists Rowan’s help. Although her order has drilled into her that vampires are the enemy, Rowan agrees to the dangerous alliance because she doubts she can get close enough to make her shot without help.

It’s that easy. Just a few sentences, not writing out every single thing. It keeps the pacing tight, explains the character motivations, and leaves plenty of room to change things. My outlines usually change quite drastically from beginning to end, but this way, I’m never wondering what scene to write next!
