“How do you feel about the election results?”

I’ve been asking students how they feel about the election results. These are their responses. If you would like to share your opinion (Student, non-student- regardless of who either of us voted for, I would love to hear it!) let me know! I will continue to collect responses in the coming weeks.

“I can say this election cycle was very intense for all parties and people involved. I understand and respect that everyone is entitled to their opinions and beliefs. I originally did not support Hillary Clinton. However she became the candidate who was not going to encroach on my rights or the rights of those I surround myself with. I understand a majority of people who voted for Trump have lived through things which I can never understand. But the world is changing and it will continue to change; the future is blue. The social construct of our society is not the same as it was in 1787 when the Constitution was signed. It is crucial to remember to separate Church and State. People have been telling me not to worry due to the Checks and Balances System, however there is a Republican Majority which puts everything on his agenda at a higher risk of coming into existence. The last time the Republicans had a majority this substantial was in 1928 and the aftermath was terrifying.”

“I feel like we seriously underestimated the power of white supremacy. I feel like the country definitely took a step back, especially with Trump now being the President Elect. Things like LGBT rights, Black rights, movements and everything else we definitely have a lot to fear with him in office.”
