WARNING
Careful out there yall
HELLO LOYAL READERS!
Iâm not dead. The chapter will be out relatively soon (really just depends on things).
Iâve been struggling with depression since April of this year. Writing this story has been a sense of comfort from it but recently itâs been hitting me really hard and I havenât had the motivation or energy to write. Also other things in my life have gotten in the way and itâs made it pretty difficult to actually sit down and start writing. I had a draft of the next chapter down but it has since been lost. I apologize for the long ass delay and just want yall to know the fic isnât over.
CHAPTER 19 IS OUT!!

The RV was too small for this much death.
The copper-salt stink of Yokoâs blood clung to the air, heavy and metallic, coating every breath with a film of nausea. It was splattered in wide arcs across the linoleum, streaked along the walls where she had thrashed, soaking into the torn upholstery beneath her still body.
Enid stood frozen in the middle of it, trembling from head to foot. Her claws had half-sprung without her noticing, the edges of keratin glinting in the gray light filtering through the blinds. Her eyes were wide, wet, staring not at Yoko but through her, as though refusing to let the image resolve fully into reality.
Wednesdayâs hand landed firmly on her forearm. Cold. Grounding. âDo not faint.â
âIâm notââ Enidâs voice cracked, and she pressed her lips together hard enough to sting. Her chest was heaving, lungs clawing at air that felt too thick. âIâm notââ

The RV smelled like damp leather, stale blood, and nerves. Yoko leaned against the far wall, her sunglasses slipped halfway down her nose, letting the fractured morning light sting at her eyes. She didnât bother pushing them back up. No one here cared what she looked like, and honestly, she didnât either. Not today.
The silence pressed on all of them. Not comfortable silenceâno, the kind that scraped along her skin and made her fangs itch. Her ears caught every small shift: Ajax dragging his palm over his face, the faint squeak of the table when his elbow bumped it, Enidâs steady, uneven breaths. Even Wednesdayâs stillness wasnât quiet; it had a sharpness to it, like the hum of a blade poised to strike.
Her gaze, hidden behind the tinted glass of her shades, slid toward Enid. The werewolf was perched on the bench like she was trying to fold herself into the tiniest space possible, knees pulled up, shoulders tight. Not her usual sunshine-and-rainbows body language. She was wound so tight Yoko swore she could hear the stress in her heartbeatâfast, fluttering, rabbit-quick.
And that necklace.
Yoko had been trying not to stare, but it was impossible. The thing caught the light every time Enidâs fingers brushed it, and Enid kept brushing it. Over and over. Like a bad habit or a prayer. Yokoâs vampire sight could track the chain in minute detail: the glint of silver, the way Enidâs claws hesitated every time they got near the clasp. The way sheâd recoil just a fraction, like sheâd touched a stove.

Wednesday sat in her usual corner, her back pressed against the wall of the RV, eyes tracing the weak morning light filtering through the blinds. The sun wasnât generous yet; it spilled in thin, sharp lines across the cabin, cutting through dust and lingering smoke. Everyone was awake. Ajax slouched near the table, rubbing at his face, the snakes under his beanie twitching idly. Yoko sat against the far wall, sunglasses low, fangs catching the light as she yawned. And Enidâwell, that was where her attention had settled.
Enid was perched on the edge of the bench, knees drawn up to her chest, fingers twisting something between them. Wednesdayâs eyes narrowed, tracking every subtle movement: the way her shoulders tensed and relaxed, the small tremor in her fingers, the faint tightening of her jaw. Every imperfection in posture, every flicker of motion, was evidence. Wednesday catalogued it, storing it away, examining it with the same methodical precision she applied to crime scenes and experiments.
Enidâs hands hovered near her throat, brushing repeatedly at the silver pendant she still wore. Wednesday noted how the chain shifted in the early light, the faint glint catching along the edge of the charm. The movement was hesitant, loaded with meaning. Enid wasnât fidgeting mindlessly. She was calculating, hesitating, debating. She wanted something, and she wasnât sure she could take it.

Wednesday stirred first.
Her eyes opened with a sharp clarity, the way a blade glints in the dark. Sleep had left her stiff, her braid caught beneath her shoulder, her body curled awkwardly against the worn cushion. It wasnât the posture that caught her attention, though. It was the weight across her torso.
An arm.
Enid Sinclairâs arm, draped over her like it had always belonged there. Enidâs cheek rested near her shoulder, breath warm and steady, her face softened by sleep in a way that seemed foreign to their reality.
Wednesday considered her options. A clean escape required precision: shift her weight, slip free without disturbing the grip. But the moment she tried to move, Enid sighed and instinctively tightened her hold, nuzzling faintly into the braid sheâd trapped.
Wednesday froze, irritation sparkingâbut beneath it, something warmer, something she ruthlessly ignored.

The RV creaked as it continued to settle, its thin walls complaining like theyâd collapse if the night leaned on them any harder. Dampness seeped through the seams, settling in the stale air. Every breath carried the weight of smoke, sweat, and the faint copper tang of blood no one wanted to mention.
Theyâd fallen into a rhythm because they had to. Two sleeping, one awake, always rotating. It was the only way to stretch themselves thin enough to keep watch while pretending they werenât already threadbare. But rhythm didnât mean peace. It just meant surviving until the next moment.
Ajax sat at the window, chin propped against his fist, eyes burning from refusing to close. Heâd tried, once. The instant his lids dipped, though, Brunoâs shredded hoodie flashed behind themâdark with blood, heavier than memory should beâand heâd jerked upright again.
The snakes beneath his beanie twitched constantly, unsettled by the tension buzzing through him. Their scales rasped against knit, a faint whispering sound that filled the silence.
Across from him, Yoko shifted with a sharp inhale, her hand pressing against her ribs. The bandage held, but every movement still tugged at the wound. She leaned back, sunglasses balanced against her face though there was nothing to shield her from anymore but moonlight.

The RV groaned with every gust of wind, its frame settling in the damp chill of the forest. The fire outside had died down hours ago, leaving the windows dark but for the occasional flash of moonlight through the trees. Inside, the air was thick with sweat, smoke, and fear.
They had arranged themselves in turnsâone watching, two resting, then rotating. It was the only way to stay alive without collapsing. But when Ajax nudged Yokoâs boot with the tip of his sneaker, muttering that her shift was done, the whole balance shattered.
Yoko stirred with a hiss of irritation, dragging herself upright with one hand pressed against her bandaged side. Her sunglasses were back on, though they did little to hide the exhaustion dragging her features down. She mumbled something about being fine, but everyone could see the pale strain in her face.
Ajax flopped down onto the bench she vacated, arms crossed tight over his chest. The snakes under his beanie twitched restlessly, their scales rasping faint against fabric. He didnât close his eyes. He just stared at the table where the note lay, the words still sharp and cruel in the dim light:
One of you must pay for what youâve done. Until then, none of you leave here alive.

The RV was suffocating. Every groan of its metal frame, every squeak of the windowpanes under Ajaxâs barricades, pressed against them like the walls themselves were closing in. The forest outside had gone silentânot even a cricket dared break the air.
Enid sat pressed against the bench, her knees hugged tight to her chest. Yoko dozed fitfully against the wall, pale and clammy, her fangs half-bared even in unconsciousness. Ajax hovered near the window, both hands gripping the cabinet heâd shoved into place, his eyes bloodshot and wide.
The scrape hadnât returned. Not once since the last drag along the outer wall. But that silence felt worse than the noise.
Wednesday crouched near Yoko, rewrapping the bloody gauze with a precision that made it seem like her hands had never once shaken in her life. Her braid hung over her shoulder, neat despite the chaos.
Enid caught herself watching herâlike she had since the fire, since Bruno, since everything. The steadiness in her was the only thing keeping Enid from unraveling completely.

The scrape lingered in the silence like claws on glass. Every breath inside the RV seemed too loud, too shallow.
Ajax pressed himself tighter against the door, as if his thin frame could hold back whatever was outside. His snakes writhed frantically beneath the knit of his beanie, one tail slipping free through a loose stitch before jerking back inside.
âDonât,â he whispered harshly, as if to them, as if to himself. âDonât move. Donât breathe.â
Yoko let out a sharp hiss through her teeth as Wednesday pressed gauze against her side. Blood soaked into the pad instantly, warm and slick, dripping down her ribs to pool on the bench beneath her. Her hand shot out, claws raking shallow furrows into the wood paneling beside her head.
âShit,â she gasped, her fangs flashing, eyes glassy. âItâsâitâs still burning.â
âStay still,â Wednesday ordered, her voice precise, even, unshaken. She wound gauze tight, pinning the pads into place, the knot secure. Her pale hands came away stained dark, but she didnât pause.

Ajax spun back toward them, panic in every line of him. âSo what does that mean? That weâve been wrong the whole time? That the real monster is still out there watching us? Waiting?â His snakes hissed louder, thrashing in quick, agitated arcs. He pressed both palms hard against his beanie as if trying to cage them, to cage himself. âThis is worse. This is so much worseââ
âAjax.â Wednesdayâs voice cut through sharp and clean. She stood over Brunoâs body, her braid spilling forward as she tilted her head, eyes like blades in the firelight. âEnough. Hyperventilation wonât prevent your throat from being slit.â
The bluntness snapped him silent, though his breathing came ragged, rough. The snakes quieted, but only barely, twitching in unsettled coils.

The clearing was suffocating.
The air clung thick and wet, every breath dragging iron down their throats. No one spoke. No one dared. The absence of Agnesâs body, the silence after her brutal deathâit pressed in on all of them, tighter than the night itself.
The gouges Enid had carved into the RV gleamed faintly in the moonlight, silver scars etched deep into the metal. Her claws had long since retracted, but she could still feel the sting in her palms where they had split skin. The urge to rake them across something again hovered just beneath her surface, but Wednesdayâs presence beside her kept it at bay.
She leaned into Wednesdayâs shoulder, quiet, her knees pulled up to her chest. Her eyes burned from the tears sheâd already shed, but now she held herself tighter, steadier. Wednesday had held her once, and though Enid hated how much she needed that anchor, it had worked. The sobs were goneâfor now. What remained was raw exhaustion, a simmering ache she could no longer scream out.
The others werenât doing much better. Ajax sat hunched over on a log, elbows digging into his knees, his snakes curled tight and silent under his beanie. Yoko paced the edge of the clearing, sunglasses tilted low but not enough to mask the hard line of her mouth. Every so often sheâd throw a glance toward the trees, sharp, restless, like she was daring something else to come tearing out of the dark.
No one wanted to look at the gouge Enid had left in the RV. No one wanted to look at her either.

Enid couldnât hold it anymore.
Her claws slid free with a shhhk of keratin against skin. Before she realized what she was doing, she turned toward the RV and raked.
The sound tore through the nightâmetal shrieking, peeling under the force of her grief. Sparks jumped as her claws carved a brutal gouge down the side, leaving four deep, jagged scars that glinted silver in the moonlight.
The noise jolted the others instantly. Ajax spun, snakes snapping alert under his beanie. Yokoâs head snapped up, sunglasses slipping lower as her eyes locked onto the mark. Even Wednesday, who rarely betrayed surprise, turned toward her with a sharp precision.
Enid stood there panting, claws trembling, her chest heaving like she might tear herself apart. The mark on the RV seemed to pulse with her rage, a scar carved into more than just metal.
