#people always talk about how Disney princesses are a negative influence on young girls #but what evidence are they basing that on #i mean #i was raised on disney princesse s#even the ones I consider princesses like Meg and Kida but aren’t really #and I know so many people my age were too#those of us who grew up in the Disney Renaissance #we’re the ones who had the blessing of watching the magic unfold #and I didn’t turn into a girl with only an ambition to find my prince #nor have a met anyone like me who has grown up to be a cardboard cut out girl that the detractors would like to make us think we would turn #instead now that i’m old enough to truly understand the complexity of these women whose stories I know so well and have treasured my whole l #I am able to look back on my life and pinpoint with clarity the ways that being shaped by Disney princesses in my childhood has helped me be #all of those wonderful characteristics they possessed #i was absorbing them without even knowing it #and my actions reflected it #honestly all evidence points to the exact opposite #Disney princesses were my foundational glimpse into womanhood #into what kind of girl i would be and what kind of woman I wanted to be #and fuck if you think i’m going to take such unfounded criticism against them lying down
