Are we not going to talk about what a sweet kid Russell is? Like, Wade took the few moments that were needed to see that something was wrong, during the whole conversation while he was trying to talk Russell down, he connected to him, he didn’t make it out like he was pitching a fit or acting out. He understood that Russell was scared and actually looked at him and took the time to understand, rather than just seeing a mutant kid going haywire. He protected him, validated his feelings.

And Russell IMMEDIATELY tries to do the same for Wade. He tries to protect him in the icebox, “you’re sick, i’ll protect you.” He doesn’t abandon Wade even when they get attacked, standing by him as his friend. He doesn’t leave Wade’s side while Cable is attacking, and at the end, he wants to believe Wade and he does, but he’s afraid of trusting anyone anymore.

Russell is the sweetest, most loyal kid who’s just desperate for any kind of healthy, gentle connection with another person. He wants to be loved, he wants to love, he wants to protect Wade bc Wade was kind to him! Like, despite all his anger and the hurt and what was done to him, he’s actively a wonderful kid, and I adore him!
