Lotus Blossom
the lotus task I felt worked well for me for getting a broad idea for a final project, but I wasn't able to come up with a set idea, so I find it good starting idea on what u wanna base your idea around. I did get a couple minor ideas to do with sound. it was a broad and narrow way of thinking, as you are having a broad idea around one thing. I may use this method of thinking near the start of a project to get a few ideas around what needs to be accomplished.
cultural probes
today we used the technique of cultural probes, it is basically creating a survey that isn't actually a survey. our task was to see how people feel about certain spaces, we answered the task by coming up with little green and red squares that people put on certain area that they like and dislike, the concept after that would be an app that the user go on to say why they liked or disliked that object or area in that space. this then gives feedback to the person conducting the probe. for me I found this technique was rather confusing, it was difficult to understand the task and I wouldn't really use it in the near future
some of my concept and developing some visual ideas
Week 6 reflection
week 6 and all I was thinking about was my project, it has been a while since I was really into doing something. I went to programming and I feel quite lost in that class I am never able to focus which is not turning out to be so good when I have two assessments due in a week or so. the next day we start to learn ab out conceptual thinking in ICT, like how to come up with a problem the effect of that problem etcetera the thing I took most was the concept lay out, voice, idea and solution. coming into studio Immediately put that structure into some writing and continued on some brief development back at my flat, I also started to prepare some cardboard prototypes as we were told we where doing some next week but I decided to plan ahead.
Week 5 reflection
I came back from home after staying there for the break ready for some work to do, unfortunately I managed to miss my programming class because I had a friend visit the night before and I don't think I need to say much more. but I woke up ready for Wednesday, in ICT we had a guest shoe up to talk to us about using the resources we have available to us in the library, which was very helpful. then we came into studio and we were told we are starting projects which I was very excited for. we were given 20 minutes to think of a brief idea and stick on a wall, I had come up with two ideas, first being an interactive short film or game on depression with some sort of room or pod to watch it in. my second idea was to create a small comfy place for people to chill out somehow incorporating sound into it. after wandering around the place I found a group of people interested in the same idea as me... well sorta but I just thought if I join a group it'll be easier. I went back to my flat and I was in conflict as I liked my second idea better but it could mean I have to go at it alone, the next day I was testing out my record layer to see what songs sound good and there it was my cosmic reasoning in that point I was feeling happy and grooving around and I thought why cant everyone feel like this and that's when I decided to do my second idea. I wouldn't care if I did it alone so now we shall see how that goes.
Final project idea
my idea for the final project in programming is a program that as a number of songs that is randomly shuffled so that every time you start the program a different song will be played. in the background i will have around 15-30 balls bouncing all over the place with different sizes and speeds. when the mouse button is clicked then it will play the next song and change the colour and background randomly. i am going to have to figure out how to upload songs or sounds into processing and use some of the skills i learnt from assessment 1 and 2.

─ Week 4 Reflection
Finally, we come to week four, we were introduced to the world of E-Text tiles and how material and clothing could be technological. Our task was to come up with a group name and flag using the E-Text tile we had just been briefed about. We had come up the name “PIE GANG” and so of course we were going to have a pie on our flag. We started with making the pie we wanted to pop out of the flag, so we sewed the fabric into a pouch and stuffed it with brown material to represent the mince. Next, we needed to add some E-Text tiles to it, so we sewed a lily pad with a battery and LEDs to some red fabric, we used conductive string to bind all the electronics together as regular string is not conductive and would not work. I did find the actual sewing to be a bit difficult cause I had never sewed before, but with the help of the TA’s I was able to learn a new skill, that may come in handy in the near future. After creating our sauce, we stuck it on our pie, and my god was it stunning, we attempted to stick it on the flag which was a little more difficult than expected as it was an odd shape to set on glue, but we did manage to get it on. What I had learnt from this is that your imagination is your limit, and you can do so much more if you put your mind to it.

─ Week 3 Reflection
Week three we continue with our use of the makey makey, but with clear group complications some others and I branched off into our own group. This smaller group was a lot better we all had something to do and felt included. With the task being to make an instrument of sorts we went to thinking, we didn’t want to overcomplicate things and play around with it, a lesson we learnt from ICT. We came to the idea of a drum pad, as we thought this was interactive and simple. We used a tissue box as our main structure and playdough as the pads, each colour was connected to an instrument, red was drums, blue was piano, white was bass. What I had learnt from this the most was to think on your feet, as we had come up with the idea and constructed it half an hour before it was due. I did find some brick walls while coming up with scratch code as I was not able to upload and of the musical sounds, I had asked for help and help is what I received and turned out to be an easy fix. Another that we encountered was two of the buttons were playing the same sound, but that problem was a mystery and will remain that.

─ Week 2 Reflection
In week two we got to be physically in class, and it felt good. We started to play with papertronics straight away and it was a little confusing at first, but I sort of got the hang of it after a while playing around with it. We then started to use a makey makey which turns stuff into buttons, like fruit, playdough and even people. We were given a link to a game and we had to make our own controller, we ended up making the players the buttons, so it was a group effort.
This exercise made me think of all the possibilities of different things. We were then given the task to hack a board game, which I did not think was possible, but it somehow is. We had collected the game dark wing duck which seemed very boring and complicated. We wanted to change some of the rules and add a couple of cards, we also had to consider how to hack the game. We finally thought of adding sound effects and lights on certain spaces on the board and with our newly learned papertronics and makey makey skills we started construction. Even though this activity was fun, a couple of group members and I felt a bit left out and did not get to do much, we had to many group members and not enough things for everyone to do. We finished our board and it worked, except the lights as we could not get them working but we were stoked non the less.
