I’ve become sceptical of the unwritten rule that just because a boy and girl appear in the same feature, a romance must ensue. Rather, I want to portray a slightly different relationship, one where the two mutually inspire each other to live - if I’m able to, then perhaps I’ll be closer to portraying a true expression of love. -Hayao Miyazaki
okay this blog used to be funny, when did you become an angry lesbian
A SEATTLE TRADITION
Have stared at this cinemagraph of the Dick’s sign spinning its beautiful spin for the last five minutes. Now I’m like one of those cartoon characters who is really hungry and everything and everyone I look at is a Dick’s Deluxe and fries.
LAKE CITY WOT WOT.
On Hollywood Blvd., Oscar in-hand. Congratulations Paolo Sorrentino and Janus Films!
It makes me happy every time I think of the moment where the party is dancing in lines on either side of Toni, and everything slows down as he lights his cigarette.
It's beautiful.
Federico Fellini, Marcello Mastroianni and Sophia Loren
Everything about this is fantastic.
Issue #8 - This & That:
Since it’s a brand new year, we’ve decided to try something a bit different for our very first issue of 2014. Whereas previous issues largely focused on essays that gathered together under some kind of thematic umbrella, this time around we’re splitting the issue up a bit differently, featuring essays on a handful of fantastic films (Her, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and Fargo), offering up a mini-theme of sorts by turning the spotlight toward a trio of films from director David O. Russell (American Hustle, Silver Linings Playbook, and I Heart Huckabees), and then—since this is BW/DR after all—we’ve wrapped the whole issue up with the only essay you will ever read in your entire life comparing Clueless (1995) and The Hunger Games (2012).

I actually gasped out loud when I saw Walter Mitty referred to here as "fantastic". I have started a club of other people who appreciate that movie, and so far I can count all the members on one hand.
They say all foxes are slightly allergic to linoleum, but it’s cool to the paw - try it. They say my tail needs to be dry cleaned twice a month, but now it’s fully detachable - see? They say our tree may never grow back, but one day, something will. Yes, these crackles are made of synthetic goose and these giblets come from artificial squab and even these apples look fake - but at least they’ve got stars on them.

Dudes, remember how like, two hours ago we told you about preliminary reports about the impacts of raising the minimum wage to $15 for City employees? Well, Murray is making big headlines in his second day on the job by making that shit happen, NOW.
The Seattle Times is reporting that...
Murray is going to get ALL THE PROPS for this, but. The credit really goes to all the low-wage workers who have been striking recently, & to Kshama Sawant for running THE HELL out of this issue. Local politics, guys, it's seriously exciting.
Little Elsie Beckmann’s balloon… “M.” Fritz Lang. 1931.
I always thought this balloon would be terrifying in any movie. Toys of the past = creepy
