On Friday 5th June Catrin Finch played a starring role in the inaugural BBC Music Day, LIVE from City Halls, Glasgow. Presented by Katie Derham and Ken Bruce, BBC Music Day culminated in a live gala concert from City Halls in Glasgow, simulcast on Radio 2, Radio 3, Radio Scotland and the Asian Network. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra was joined by an exciting cross-genre line-up of artists including tenor Noah Stewart, the violinist Jack Liebeck, pop legends Lulu and Deacon Blue, Bhangra artist Jaz Dhami, Scots folk star Claire Hastings, harpist Catrin Finch and jazz pianist Jamie Cullum. They performed music with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Richard Balcombe, from classical repertoire to film music, jazz to rock and folk music to Jaz Dhami. Paprika have been in the Jordan capital of Amman, performing an open air concert in the middle of the city for the Europe Day 2015 celebrations, collaborating with a number of Jordanian musicians during the concert. The next day they visited the Za'atari refugee camp in the desert on the border with Syria. The band said that seeing the camp, and playing their music in front of thousands of refugees “changed the way we look at life… and we left the camp deeply moved”.

Paprika were tremendously well received by the British Council in Amman, and the Jordanian people, and look forward to their next trip!

Catrin Finch and Cerys Matthews were both in the spotlight for the Radio 2 Folk Awards ceremony in Cardiff on the 22nd April. They both presented awards, with Cerys giving a fitting tribute to the recently deceased Merêd Evans, who was posthumously awarded the 'Good Tradition' award for services to Folk Music. There were performances from Yusuf/Cat Stevens, Loudon Wainwright III and Guy Garvey. The ceremony was filmed for broadcast through the BBC iPlayer. Maestro Jenkins was in Kosovo on Sunday 15th March to accept a peace prize from the President of Kosovo, to whose country The Armed Man was dedicated in 1999. The country’s premiere of of the work in Prishtina highlighted the 16th anniversary of the end of the war in Kosovo, and it was followed by Karl accepting and collecting the Presidential Medal of Merit from incumbent Atifete Jahjaga.

Karl was in his studio last week recording his nomination video for the prestigious St David Award in the 'Culture' category. The award seeks to honour the achievements of those in Welsh society who have made an outstanding contribution to their field. Having beaten competition from many thousands of candidates Karl made it down to the final 3, whereupon he narrowly conceded the award to eventual winner Siân Phillips.
