Walking in my shoes.
Looking at me I guess I look like a normal 22 year old. Brown hair, blue eyes, always trying to wear a smile. Not many people know exactly what hides beneath or get to see it very often. You would not guess that I am currently failing my two university classes, or that I have epilepsy, but that is the truth.
I live and care for my two grandparents (both 80). My Nan has to use a walker to get around, is very immobile and rules the house hold. My grandfather lives and breaths for my nan, helping me with looking after her in part. To give a brief idea of what it is like looking after my loving grandparents on a good day I will try and explain. Like everyone else’s day, my day starts with breakfast at 8:00. Pop will usually get nans teeth cup and toothpaste and put them at the kitchen table for her to brush her teeth, he also has her breakfast ready to put into the microwave or toaster and a hot milo ready to go. Nan will go to the bathroom (to which she needs help - either pop or I) and then get dressed (to which she also needs help). We will all sit down and have breakfast after which Nan dishes out her and pops tablets. During the day she will sit in her chair at the kitchen table and tell both pop and I what we need to do. This could be stacking the dishwasher, washing or cooking etc. If you do not do it then or there she will either yell and scream or cry (or sometimes both at the same time). If I am home I will usually get lunch and dinner (something also difficult as if you cut the cheese too thick or thin nan will also chuck a fit). If pop needs to go anywhere, I drive him. I take him shopping, to appointments etc. Now this is all well and good, I love both of them to the moon and back BUT I am also trying to live my life and make something of myself. I am currently going to university and in between looking after Nan and Pop I try and study. Due to this semester being a hiccup and a half health wise for both of them, I am currently failing both classes and am desperately trying to fix them up. I do not think people truly know the struggles of being a young carer. I have been looking after Nan and Pop since I was 16 but only part time. I would visit 3 times a week at least and check up, go down the street etc. Last year I became the full time carer as everyone else in the family have their own lives and do not have the time to step up (granted I don’t really either). Part of the struggles I go through daily are emotional. I experience several emotions each and every day. To name a few: anger, frustration, guilt, worry, happiness, sadness, panic, appreciation, but the biggest one lately has been hurt. Why is this? Well after dropping a subject at uni, I got told by the government I need to find a job... I do not have time to fit a job into my lifestyle. I sat down with nan and pop and explained this, i suggested possibly getting a carers pension for pop... to which nan replies “why you do nothing for us!” This broke my heart! would it break yours???? So now I have taken up tutoring 6 people a week, this still is not good enough for her and she keeps on saying that I need a job (hence the hurt)
The whole point of this post was to 1. describe what it is like for a young carer, trying to get their life in order and 2. to show that just because people wear a smile, doesn't mean that they are happy. The people that wear a smile the best are the people that need it to hide the truth.

With needing extra cash I have taken up tutoring. This is now my schedule! A tad hectic but some room for more.
Tutoring...
So as a univeristy student I do not get a lot of money, I look after my grandparents full time as well so i can not uphold a job. I had this idea of starting tutoring and have been advertising like crazy on media pages but so far only one student has asked me about it. I have experience in tutoring and also have the marks to prove that I can do it, but still... no such luck.
A question that entered my head was “when tutoring... is there any particular way that you tutor?” I know that I like to have worksheets to go through otherwise I find its like teaching. I would love to hear what you lovely people do.
Due to things getting hectic within my personal life I took a break from my studyblr, however im back baby! Stronger then ever and cracking down on studying! Watch this space for more posts to come!!
Week 1 is over!
With the first week of being back at university over I must say I am relieved. I keep on counting, one down... only 11 more to go.
Do not get me wrong, I am having an absolute blast, but the first week is always the most boring. So far I have listened to the same administrative processes 5 times this year alone! I am super excited for this week to learn some real knowledge and something interesting.
Over the next week I will be learning about the upper limbs, (specifically the pictorial girdle and the organic material involved in the movement) basic chemistry (for the 6th time... *insert sarcastic yay here*) and basic statistics.
On the gym front I am super excited as my lovely and wonderful trainer has agreed to help push me further to achieve my goals fitness wise. This means I will be doing 2 new classes and working even harder in my 6 other classes through out the week. I also want to start training for the fundraising event that will be happening in my local area in September which is either a 12k or 6k run or a 6k walk. My goal is to be able to complete the 6k run this year and the 12k run next year. Hopefully all this added exercise pays off but even if it doesn't it will be fun in the process.
I hope everyone has a great and fabulous week! Remember to keep studying!
RainbowButene!
Here’s your mid-week reminder to forgive yourself if you’ve had a crappy/tired/unproductive day/week/month/year. You are doing the best you can. Look after yourself, do what you need to do. And it doesn’t matter what time of day/week/month/year it is, it’s never too late to make a fresh start.
This is a really really good way to stay organised.
Reblog if you're a studyblr
Need to see some new guys on my dash. Reblog if you are a studyblr and I’ll check out your blog.
Classes are Back Finally!
This is the first week back at uni (for those that have not spent their holidays doing a research scholarship) and it has brought with it a dust cloud of excitement over the campus.
This semester (due to a mix up in my time table) I am taking two electives and a core subject. Both my electives are HUBS courses, one on general Bioscience and the other on the muscular skeletal system. The core subject is Statistics which is not as popular a subject when spoken about however I am sure it will be interesting and fun.
With a change in my time table from last year I had to adjust the classes at the gym I am doing. Today I done my first ever GRIT class (the hardest of classes) and followed it with an RPM class. I was so happy with my trainer who supported and pushed me through both and I am so happy with this great achievement. I think the combination will be a regular occurrence from now on (although tomorrow I may re-consider that due to muscle pain).
I will be continuing to blog about my experiences through out semester and would love to know if you blog too? If you do, send me a message and I will follow you.
Have a great week everyone!
We hear, read and watch a lot of people giving out practically the same study tips over and over again and it really gets disappointing! One time I looked for study tips on youtube and I ended up complaining, saying things like “Seriously? Why bother making an eight minute long video when you are just going to share the obvious, long-been-practiced study tips? Give me a break!”. We all know it will help to use flashcards and highlighters, duh?
Anyways, I’m really on the look out for personal study methods because it’s great to have something new to try out. If your current study style is not working and you hear someone share how she studies, it kind of gives you a little hope that maybe that method would actually work out for you as well!
So I finally decided to share my very own study methods with some other tips to help you guys out! I’m also hoping that more people would do the same since I also would want to find out more ways to improve my studying style too.
Study Method # 1: Keep two tracker notebooks!
Tracker notebook # 1
I use this notebook to list all the major topics per subject. I make columns like topics then the name of books/reviewers/test banks that I have then put check marks on those topics that I studied under the column of the book/reviewer/test bank that I used.
It helps me keep track of all the hard-earned resources that I have and definitely lessens the chance of “Oh my goodness! I forgot I had that in my flashdrive! I could have answered that question if only I studied that test bank too!”
Tracker notebook # 2
I usually bring this every time I study. I’m not sure with you guys but I usually waste precious time while I’m studying by counting how many more pages I need to read/ numbers to answer! It’s such a bad habit. This notebook helped me a lot since I practically can see how much more I need to do (like hello? I can see clearly I’m still at #10 out of 100!).
It also allows me to save time when I’m going back to that test bank/reviewer the second time because I can skip the numbers I found easy and just go directly with those that I marked with a star, a question mark or that I encircled!
Study method # 2: Have weekly and daily printable planners!
Weekly Planner
I don’t have a “fixed” study planner because I have the most erratic study schedule. The good thing about printable planners is that you can print like fifty copies in case your mind changes fifty times too. *just kidding*
I usually put the major topics that I need to study per day in here so I could already picture out how my week would flow. It also helps a lot on you not wasting a day or forgetting other things you need to study for within the week!
Daily Planner
This is my jam. I like torturing myself by booking all of my 24 hours each day to make sure I’m extremely productive. Of course you have the liberty of scraping out 5 minutes every 30 minutes for break or whatever that suits you best.
I love daily (or hourly planners as I want to call it) because I don’t waste my time debating on what to do next after I finish a task. Plus, I don’t go to extremes of either studying or sleeping in way too much!
As for the other tips above, they are very self-explanatory. Have a watch nearby to be able to track what time it is already. Keep your books nearby so you won’t have to go up and down or around the house to get them. Stock up on colorful post-its, pens and highlighters because you will never have way too much of them! Hahaha
Lastly, have some jellybeans! Or chocolates or whatever! I guess you know why. :) *wink*
Anywho, that’s about it! Happy studying! <3 If this helped you in some way, send me in some love messages! If you want to ask for more tips, let me know too! I already got some more ideas brewing up in my head. Ciao!
The notebooks I brought when I was on holiday
