James had started his first job as a park gardener. He really enjoyed his work and loved to spend most of the day outdoors doing physical tasks such as raking the leaves and trimming the trees. From the day one, he knew that this was the dream job he had been waiting for his whole life.
His boss Mike had been guiding him from the day one and even though he was kind, there was something peculiar about him. He was especially strict with the work safety as James had to wear steel toe rubber boots and hi-viz rain bibs even when it was hot and sunny. He had tried to complain about getting sweaty, but Mike was adamant with the safety regulations. He would bow his head and obey as he didn’t want to see his boss upset. And Mike was also using rain bibs and rubber boots on daily basis so he didn’t feel like complaining more about it.
As the months went by his boss was having more and more hold over his life. Mike was asking him to wear company’s rain gear even outside of work as it would show loyalty for his boss. He wasn’t sure why but at that point it felt such a natural thing to do. When he was wearing the protective gear he felt safe and the thick rubber started to feel like a second skin.
One morning when James came to work his boss was waiting for him at the company’s office. He was sitting on his chair and was wearing orange rain suit. James was also fully geared at that point and could feel Mike watching him closely. “This is the day when your job really starts. You have proven your worth and shown admiration for the rubber. You can fully relax now and concentrate on serving your master.”
James felt how his rubber gear changed him irreversibly. He knelt down before his former boss and waited for the next command: “Start licking my boots, boy”. As his tongue touched the rubbery surface of the sole, his mind went completely blank. His only purpose was to serve his master. His only purpose was to wear thick rubber gear. His only purpose was to obey.
