This guy – why does he keep on looking at me? I think he doesn’t know that I can perfectly see him glancing at my direction from time to time. He’s been watching me ever since I asked him to pass my payment to the jeepney driver. I can perfectly remember that I don’t have any change at all.
Some of the passengers sitting between us alighted momentarily and he naturally slid closer to me. I pretended not to pay attention. I increased the volume of my music player and acted like I don’t care. After a few more laps, the vehicle halted to my destination and I immediately get off as expected.
Surprisingly, he did as well. He followed closely behind. I don’t want to look back like I am being intimated by his presence; he on the other hand kept the friendly distance. I can smell his fragrance - that shower fresh masculine scent, it is calming.
Then without any warnings, he caught my attention by a gentle pull on bag. I flinched as I panicked. My paranoia acted like an ignition for my adrenaline rush. I got surprised with his sudden gesture and accidentally hit him on his face. I saw his other hand holding my wallet and - my world stopped to revolve when I saw his stance on a relax mode without any intention of harm.
He rubbed his forehead and acted like the impact didn’t affect him. I know it is painful. The young man lowered his hand and smiled at me with his teasing shrimp eyes. This stranger extended his hand towards me to give my purse back. It was a good thing that I managed not to scream because it will be more humiliating.
“Here, you dropped this when you paid a while ago.” He said politely.
Now that I decided to look at him face to face, I can’t help but to notice his amiable beam. He shyly ruffled his puppy hair as I stared at him. I can’t recover from his charming presence; I think I’ve regretted not looking at him while I still can. I should have done this from the very start thinking that now can also mean goodbye for both of us.
“I – I think I must go now. I still need to catch an appointment.” He excused himself and sprinted across the street which left me hanging idiotically on what happened. I wasn’t even able to thank him. Oh, this kind of stupid that I am dying to avoid, it happened to me like a nightmare.
I got into our office and idly sat on my desk with the thought of him. Will I ever see him again? Can I see him again tomorrow? Or maybe later when I go home? What are the odds - what a waste right?
My team lead sent me an instant message as soon as I logged in. What is this? I don’t want to work yet. Please, don’t distract me now. I want to remember desperately and keep that vivid memory forever. Yet my superior even went over my desk to nag me. He is – NOT COOPERATING AT ALL.
“Raiza – why are you” He started.
“I was supposed to go there.” I told him grumpily. I wished I can inflict him with a slightest of hint how annoyed I am right now. Ah, how cruel. I looked at him trying my best not to frown and to my surprise, my – my life saver is with him.
Standing clearly in front of me while waving his hand is our new joiner; the guy whom I hoped to know more – the man who gave my wallet back even if he knew that it has nothing but ringing coins. My scene paused again by default as he introduced himself.
“Hi Raiza, I’m Lee Junho. Please take care of me.”
