"Well isn't that nice for you."
[ ♛ ] The Keeping of Power
The words of the demon before him rung true. His reputation preceded him. Raizen caught on to he whispers roaming the Makai, and making their way into his territory. Whispers of another that with time could possibly pose a problem to him. However, Raizen was never one for unnecessary violence. He would only step forward if the situation required him to do so.
The bedraggled Mozaku addressed the demon, a name he’d hear through whispers, “I believe it’s, Yomi, isn’t it?”. He eyed the demon before him. Wariness feeling his inside, however, intrigue got the better of him. What harm could it do to hear the demon out?
“Is that so?” His eyes wandered before forming into a look of curiosity. What request could Yomi come to him with? What was it that interested him so much about this current situation? He put it down to the years of solitude and little challenge he had been faced with. It was a gut instinct, but something told him that if he were to follow this through, something exciting and possibly big could waiting on the other side for some. Something to distract him from meaningless existenct. To bring probable meaning.
“I’m listening.” was all he voice as a small grin formed on his face. Finally, something and someone worth his time.
“Correct,” he said in reply to the king’s first question. The dying man didn’t look fazed by Yomi’s words or actions, much to his expectation. Reminding him of memories long passed, Yomi envisioned a scene of untimely death; the starring role going to Raizen and the villain being played by himself. Or more realistically, the hero. Even sitting here on his deathbed of a throne, he was as arrogant as ever, not caring that his new foe had the potential power to destroy him in the state he was in. It made him sick. Disgusted. Angry, beneath the layers of calm, fleeting though the emotion was.
“Well, friend, my request is quite simple, truthfully. I only want to be recognized as the third king of Makai.” He paused for no reaction, then continued. “I think I’ve earned the title thus far.” His emotions were as even as ever as he spoke in such a manner of directness, the small smile still attached to his lips. The servants’ blood was boiling behind their brows, their knuckles practically screaming from beneath the skin. He felt he needn’t say more.
A startled look of surprise fell over Raizen's face. He had expected something of a big request, however, he had yet to admit that he hadn't expected this. It was clear that he too was not put back by such a request by the tension that mounting in the room. The powers eminating around the two demons as the monks became angered by such a request. Raizen didn't take long to compose himself, jesting a hand to the monks for them to calm down.
In all honesty, he couldn't really pinpoint why he was so surprised. Yomi had indeed been busy in his years and quite rightly so, out of any of the demons, had earned himself to be at least thought of as another ruler. Though Raizen was curious, just as to why this demon wanted to be in such power.
"Simple you say? Hn, I'm not so sure of that. However, I can't deny that you have possibly earned yourself such a title. My question however, is why exactly do you want for such power? What is in it for you?"
It would be wrong to deny Yomi of such power. That is, only if his intentions were well and good for the ways of the Makai.

Still to this day, Raizen’s stomach continued to growl specific times each day. A sound that had become familiar throughout the Makai, no doubt. Many had branded him a fool, by giving in to such a human emotion. Though, Raizen made no attempt to fall victim to their words. He had never given in to his hunger all those years later, pushing his body to its very limits. True dedication. It was something that couldn’t be truly understood unless experienced.
The beastly growl proceeded to subside, as he sat there staring once more at the floor below him. As though it would offer some company. Though it did not. However, the energy that was radiating from the bottom of his tower, allowed him some. It wasn’t often that the others graced him with their visit. Many preferred to steer clear of his land altogether which was no surprise.
It was clear that the monks had now led the visitor to his door as whispers broke the silence he was used to hearing. They weren’t very inclined to letting others grace Raizen with their appearance, though on odd occassion they allowed for exceptions. Today had seemed to be one of them.
As the doors opened, noisly dragged across the stone floor, Raizen’s eyes rose to meet the figure of before him. This would surely make for interesting day. A hoarse snicker gracing his lips, “A visitor. To what do I owe the pleasure?
Yomi could feel that it was dark and very empty in the room he had just stepped into. It amused him probably more than it should have to see the state in which the mighty king had lived. When the creaking doors came to a halt, back to where they started, the two foot soldiers walked to their master’s sides. Twenty-three paces forward, he took note. Their straight line trajectory proved to him that it was indeed a barren space, and small at that.
They insisted on staying in the room with them, but Yomi did not object. Youda’s readings would prove suffice enough in ensuring his safety from anyone but Raizen himself. The others were mere furniture. Standing by the door, deciding not to comment on the lack of hospitality, the soon-to-be king spoke.
“As fate would have it, I have gathered a large number of followers in the past few centuries and have become somewhat well known, at least by my standards. I should hope this means I need no introduction.” If Raizen were anyone else, he’d make a jest about how the demon may not have heard about him over the ridiculous growling his innards constantly made, but he digressed. He could hear the muscles contracting tightly around Raizen’s empty stomach while the rest of him remained motionless, mentally cringing at the feeling it caused his own body. “I come here with a request that I’d appreciate you taking your time out to hear,” he added, with a smile.

A bellowing sound of malnutrition taunted the air of Makai with a false hope of overthrow for Yomi. The incessant growl of that fool’s stomach could be heard even from Gandara and standing here it was only that much more bothersome to his already sensitive auditory range. His expression was vacant, much unlike the hoard of angry glares that gazed upon him from Raizen’s peanut gallery of fool troops. He could hear the blood rushing to their faces, the muscles of their hands coiling into fists, their eyebrows furrowing in anger at such a dastardly display of confidence on his part. It amused him so.
“Relax, friends. I’m only here to seek counsel with your king, nothing more,” he assured them, raising his hands in front of himself as a sign of peace, accompanying this action with a faint smile. “If I knew my presence here was unwelcome, I would’ve notified you all ahead of time.” At this point he was only toying with them. He got a certain pleasure from angering others, and usually did so naturally, by being so calm himself.
As he was led to the top of Raizen’s tower, by two warriors whom were undoubtedly the strongest of the group, Yomi pondered the outcome of this meeting. He was only steps away from the dream he’d been working towards for centuries now. Of course, he knew what the outcome would be, considering the steps he had already taken to ensure it, but he had to think of all possibilities like any good ruler and tactician. At the top of the staircase, the strongest of the monks, seemingly the most level-headed of them all, began to open the doors to what was sure to be an interesting evening.

"So this is what conversation has come down to these days?" Raizen sighed, closing his eyes as he bowed his head, "I have no preference for 'butts'."

"I fail to see how this is any of your business. However, I am in a good mood. So I'll appease you. I am not a virgin, no."

"STOP!" His roar rumbled through his chest, "You're destroying my ear drums! Take your ridiculous preaching else where!"

One scrawny, long nailed hand covered his face in disgust, masking a snarl as the other kept the greyfaces face at a distant, "You're trying my patience."
-stares at him- o_o
... Now Raizen knew he was a little bedraggled and withering in ways of physicality but did it really call for this grey faced thing to just stare at him. It was.. irritating, "Can I help you? Or do you have some fixation for staring at people?"
Has you really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
"... I'm sorry I don't understand you"
Hello again, Mr. Raizen! Have you read the book? c:
Welcome back, human. Yes, I did. Though it was a worthy read, I have read better. But I can't condemn you for giving me something to entertain me for the too much time I have on my hands.
did you hang with the person you like recently?
I suppose you could say that. In my slumber at least.
“Damn him. Damn him!”
I broke into a run the moment I reached the other end of the portal, phantasmagoric colors of the between-space finally solidifying, and landed gracefully on my feet, kicking off into the wilderness. Sakyo’s portal opened on the border between Gandara…
It was to be expected that Hokushin and the rest of his monk comrades wouldn’t let Raizen out their sight now that he had returned after deep hibernation. Everyone had deemed him dead but that was little excuse for those who were loyal to him felt the need to baby him now. After bitter exchange of words Raizen managed to shake Hokushin from his trail and continue on his stroll through the forestry. Though his body was appearing more nourished his mind however was still waging a war over the hunger inside him. The trees and the small amount of breeze including the awful quietness within the woodland around the area calmed Raizens mind. However, his senses slipped as he caught the scent of two upper class energy levels roaming around the area. It was unusual, especially this far out. Raizen stopped in his foot steps as he felt one of levels skim past him just within the trees before him but his eyes remained on the darkened depths of the forestry just ahead of him as he felt the second demon energy emerging at a quickening pace. After all he enjoyed unexpected encounters, it gave for distractions from hunger.
((I hope this is okay :3))
Toguro: Absconded
It’s not often I sense a power level greater than my own. Karasu had raced right by something big, huge, in his madcap escape.
Curious, I turned off the path of youki I was following and strolled through the trees, all demonic species I couldn’t have named, whose leaves were bright blue, for some reason.
He was tall, close to my height, but utterly emaciated. His bones stood out from stringy muscle in clear definition, and he was hunched, slightly, as though he’d received a gut-wound.
There was only one person this could be: Raizen, a hundred times great grandfather of Yusuke Urameshi. I met his sunken eyes and felt the extents of his colossal power.
“Should I bow?” I asked, amused.
Raizen’s eyes focused in on the muscular man before him. A slight head tilt as they scanned over the demon. He had a somewhat intimidating look about him, if Raizen were one to be intimidated.
When Raizen’s eyes finally ran up the tall frame before him and met his eyes, he couldn’t help the smirk that played on his face, which was fueled more as soon as the other demon opened his mouth. The cocky kind of demon. Well this made for Raizen to enjoy this encounter even more.
“Why ask if you already know the answer?”
Most of the time Raizen wouldn’t use his known name of King to make others feel belittled and have them bow at his feet. But there was something about this demon that he didn’t like, it was probably his attitude, which made Raizen use such titles to his full advantage.
A few seconds passed and yet the other demon still hadn’t attempted to bow and Raizen’s face moulded into a look of false anger as his head nodded towards the ground, “Well? Are you going to continue standing there and being rude? Or show me some respect?”, a low laugh grumbled deep in his chest as he found amusement in his own words.
I snorted, my amusement drying up. There was no point in baiting a demon of his power, though. I was an S-class too, but at this level, the difference between being a middling S-class – me - and being at the top of the level - him - was the difference between a D-class and a B-class, roughly: or rather, the first few demons I sent out against Urameshi in our first introduction, and Yusuke during most of the Dark Tournament.
The number of demons at Raizen’s strength could be counted on hands and toes. I was not among them.
My poker face in place, I put both hands on my thick thighs, and bowed, formally, as I had been taught as a boy. It was a - strange sensation. I hadn’t bowed to anyone in seventy years, after all.
It was a little of a shock to have a demon bow before him. Many preferred more to challenge him, though it never turned out well. His brows raised in curiosity at the demon before him, there as indeed something different about this one but for some reason Raizen couldn’t put his finger on it.
“Well, what do you know, a demon with manners. Now, that is a rare find” he snickered out. “Not that I mind visitors, but coming across one with such manners is different. So if you’re not here to challenge me, or to try and sabotage the land, then do you mind telling me why you’re in these parts of the Makai?”
Curiosity was one of Raizens perks. It was something he used to pry information from demons in a less than elegant but almost friendly kind of way. A useful way to determine whether friend, or foe.
“Chasing an employee,” I said brusquely. No point in hiding it, after all. “And I never get into fights that are too unbalanced, if I can help it.”
I cocked an eyebrow at him.
“Hm..” The sound grumbled deep in his chest “I see, so that other power I sensed was also something to do with you.” He stated as he pieced the puzzle together. A more sincere chuckle rolled off his tongue, “That’s a wise move. I too don’t really find any amusement in fighting demons who don’t have chance.”
Raizen roughly sat himself down on the boulder that was lodged in the ground, looking up throw his splintered bangs, “But I also don’t like trespassers on my land, especially if there is any chance of them ruining the surroundings. So humor me, what happened that would make your ‘employee’ run away from you? Do that, I’ll help you find him and I may spare both your lives.”
