the dialogue near the end of s9e2 already conveys a lot about the characters. summer acknowledges that rick and mortys relationship is absolutely fucked and isnt healthy. she knows that its bad and is verbally expressing it, however she doesnt really do anything about it because as much as she knows its bad she has just gotten used to it. its so normal to her and integrated into her life that this isnt something that concerns her much anymore. or well even if it is concerning its happened for so long that its difficult to care. this danger is something that she is surrounded with to the point that she doesnt really question it or even has grown to enjoy living in such an abnormal environment because she doesnt know anything else thats better.

beth on the other hand doesnt want to admit this. she doesnt want to fully come to terms with the fact that the relationship between rick and morty is not at all healthy or okay because she wants her son to finally have a friendship after so long of him being lonely, and she doesnt want to admit that rick is a bad person. her extreme attachment issues and fear of abandonment has been very clear throughout the series and this definitely isnt the first instance of her being unwillingly to admit ricks faults. additionally criticizing rick would also mean criticizing herself but thats a whole other topic. but even though she wants to deny it she has enough knowledge of it being true that she cannot just outright say "thats not true" because she knows that it is. instead she would rather just ignore it and focus on something else so that she doesnt have to acknowledge it.

The main thing that pisses me off about hyuluka is that its like, actually canon. The creators made the decision to make Luka kill Hyunas brother, sexualy assult her, and end up killing her with his own stupidity, and just generally cause her so much pain and suffering, and still decided to make them a canon pairing. If it was just something in the fandom, id still hate it sure, but it wouldn't piss me off as much as it does because its canon.
