NYPD KILLS ANOTHER UNARMED MENTALLY ILL MANĀ
A police officer fatally shot an unarmed man during what police are calling a āviolent struggleā in the East Village on Saturday. The shooting happened around 1:45 p.m. yesterday at what the Times refers to as āa supportive housing complex for people with mental illnessesā on E. 6th Street near Avenue A.
The 22-year-old victim, whom the Post has identified as Felix David, was the suspect in a robbery last Thursday at City College.Ā
Cops tracked him down to the East Village facility, and say David fled out a window on the sixth floor and down a fire escape. Although David was unarmed, cops say that āa struggle ensued between the suspect and the two detectives.ā This āviolent struggleā involved a police radio, which David allegedly grabbed from one of the officers and used to strike both detectives on the head, causing lacerations.
During this one detective drew his firearm and fired once, striking David in the torso. He was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Both officers were taken to Bellevue with bruises and lacerations; both are in stable condition. Police add that the investigation is ongoing.
This shit is getting tiring

Are you fucken serious?
again v Afraid of the intersections of being black and mentally ill (and a woman and queer)
We need to clarify what we mean by terms like āviolenceā and āpeaceful.ā Because, to be clear, violence is beating, harassing, tazing, assaulting and shooting Black, trans, immigrant, women, and queer people, and that is the reality many of us are dealing with daily. Telling someone to be peaceful and shaming their militance not only lacks a nuanced and historical political understanding, it is literally a deadly and irresponsible demand. The political goals of rioters in Baltimore are not unclearājust as they were not unclear when poor, Black people rioted in Ferguson last fall. When the free market, real estate, the elected government, the legal system have all shown you they are not going to protect youāin fact, that they are the sources of the greatest violence you faceāthen political action becomes about stopping the machine that is trying to kill you, even if only for a moment, getting the boot off your neck, even if it only allows you a second of air. This is exactly what blocking off streets, disrupting white consumerism, and destroying state property are designed to do.
