I definitely wanted to make another post about Richard Lovitz, because yes, I want to and I have enough desire to do it hahaha.
Something that really catches my attention is his personality. I think he's the typical tough guy, but deep down he has a heart of gold. Although, of course, his bad temper also makes everyone around him hate himā¦
Isn't it curious that almost everyone hated him? I mean, there's another similar character, but in another section of the same factoryā¦ guess who? Yes, the one whose name starts with H and ends in Arley. The funny thing is that Rich had a friend, Avery. Well, you could say that Avery was the only one who didn't try to distance himself from him. He also swears that he never reported Rich, that complaint to factory management that led to his demotion.
It's interesting that, despite everything, Rich seemed to understand him, which is why they had lunch together every Friday. But he also seems to like to joke about it, since in the Fortnite letter, Avery reiterates that he didn't report him, hahaha. Rich is capable of ruining his life with that, hahaha.
I imagine Rich with that 90s style, like John Travolta in the movie 'Grease', since we know from the interview with his voice actor that the idea was for his voice to sound rude, but not old.
Getting back to the other topic, Rich was hated, yes, and he himself was surprised that people like Stuart didn't see him that way. If Rich felt that everyone hated him, it was for a reason; he surely noticed it in the work environment at the warehouse. I found that curiousā¦ It's as if he simply accepted that he had a bad temper, and if people liked it, great, and if they didn't, well, too bad. But he tried to change that, to improve himself as a personā¦ Something that obviously didn't happen with Harley Sawyer.
Harley was simply hated, and he didn't bother to change that, or maybe he did? I doubt he wanted to change his situation, but I love that, in contrast to Avery, we have Bruno White, who was Harley's right-hand man, and whom he himself believed understood him and shared his thoughts. It's interesting how the line is drawn here, between Harley and Rich, because they are both similar in certain aspects, but along the way they clashed with people who could have been good or bad.
At one point, Avery didn't distance himself from Rich even after being demoted. They continued talking, and Rich mentioned (as shown in Chapter 2) that they had lunch together on Fridays. Avery is a genuinely good person; he's understanding and empathetic, and he recognizes Rich's situation, as they both suffer the stress of working at Playtime Co.
On the other hand, there's Bruno White. Harley thought Bruno understood himā¦ He works alongside him, BUT when he's not with Harley Sawyer, he talks badly about him behind his back. According to the Chapter 4 ARG, Harley mentions in emails to some people that Bruno spoke badly about him behind his back. Also, everyone in the labs hates him. In Chapter 5, there's a letter from a biologist named Chloe Arkins, who speaks badly of Harley Sawyer WITHOUT EVEN EVER HAVING SEEN HIM WORKā¦ That shocks me. Clearly, that's the kind of work Bruno White was doing behind Harley's back, right? I think this deserves a separate, deeper analysis because I'm also a big Harley fan, and I'm intrigued by how scientists who haven't even worked with him have such a negative image of Harley. And look, I know Harley Sawyer isn't a saint, but ALL the scientists were involved, haha, they're all equally guilty for what they did to the children. That's why I'm surprised by the very negative image they projected of Harley, as if they needed to blame someone for all the dirty things they did down there.
Getting back to Rich, it's interesting how he managed to transform his image from hated to loved, even more so than the executives themselves. That says a lot about Rich's excellent work at the company and how much he cares about his employees. The only thing he lacked was the power to give them raises, but of course, he can't. xD
That's why I support the idea that Rich wanted to accept the promotion at work, because he probably thought that if he became an executive, he could help with everyone else's salariesā¦ Of course, assuming he actually accepted it, or who knows what would have happened (just so you know, I support the theory that Rich is the protagonist of PPT).
And besides all thisā¦ There's something else interesting, like the fact that they tricked Harley about his scientific work, which would be revealed to the world if he worked at the factory. In the end, well, obviously that didn't happen, butā¦ What about Rich? They literally offered him an executive position. Isn't that another trap? How curious, Rich, if he did get the news from the executives, was also blatantly deceived.
I know, I'm wasting my time with this post, but I wanted to do it because I suddenly felt like talking about Rich, and all these comparisons between him and Harley Sawyer came to mind.
I was sitting on the couch once and I thought, "Hey, these two have some interesting similarities," and that's how it all started. Also, I like to imagine Rich as the Player, and that he's the opposite of Harley; I mean, just like Harley would be the brains of the group, Rich is the brute force (he punches and kicks things when he's angry, just like you hear on the VHS tapes in chapters 2 and 3). Just like Harley says witty things that make you look ridiculous, Rich is the one who wonders if a certain word even exists (like we saw on his VHS in episode 1 xD). In other words, he's strong but clumsy, and he likes fantasy, like when he references the story of the Red-Nosed Reindeer in Chapter 2 when he says he's on the "Island of Lost Toys," while Harley is more into science fiction andā¦ OH MY GOD, THIS POST IS AMAZING! I'M SORRY, I NEED TO SHOUT THAT I WANT RICH TO BE THE PLAYER IN POPPY PLAYTIME!
