writing from Usopp’s pov is so fun. his character voice is so relatable. His brain is always going like five steps into the future and freaking out about every bad thing that could possibly happen. when I write his inner monologue i just think “ok what is the absolute worst case scenario in this situation. like the scenario where everyone is mad at you and you get abandoned on a deserted island and die alone from a flesh eating bacteria or something”
Zhan zhao quickly reading the letter left behind by huo linglong and running to find her shouting "linglong!" instead of his usual courteous "lady huo"
Zhan zhao bringing drunk bai yutang back and tucking him in; pulling him out of the water with a proud grin
I don't have any insightful commentary on this scene
they're incredible
I can't even asldkasldkajslkasdas
CUTE!
but also, what reaction at his "dark and twisted past" did Zhan Zhao expected from people like Linglong and Yutang other than "wow, that's kinda hot"???
lmao

雨霖铃 ZHAN ZHAO ADVENTURES China, 2026, dir. Liu Hong Yuan. Episode 19.
One of the things I especially like in Zhan Zhao Adventures is how even thought Bai Yutang and Huo Linglong don't strictly share Zhan Zhao's belief in the necessity of justice from law rather than personal revenge, they do what they can to make sure ZZ can stick to that principle, even before they know why exactly it is so important to him.
First, in ep 11 when they catch up to that corrupt official and question him about the treatment of Liu Hongyi, HLL steps in to make sure ZZ doesn't do anything he'll regret when he does get upset, and later in ep 13 we find out she was sent along because BYT thought it was a risk he'd lose control.
Then, when Ding Yuehua kills Jing Yiming, HLL helps her get away so that ZZ doesn't have to deal with the conflict of whether to arrest her for it, when the law would demand it but he personally doesn't really think she was wrong to kill him.
And of course there is the line they can't cross, and that too is about protecting ZZ, as opposite to himself, they put his life above his principles, even when it has to do with such a deeply personal case to them as their brother and aunt's case (ep 27).
Finally this particular narrative through line gets its climax in the last episode, when ZZ deliberately decides to do what he as an imperial officer should not, namely to kill Prince Xiangyang. It's obviously partly calculated as being for the greater good, because as the prince says, he won't be killed by the emperor, and will just build a new faction, so the only thing to make sure he won't is to kill him, but this is't the full motive, asn especially not when it comes to the moment of the act.
At that time, what ZZ says is that even the prince isn't exempt of the life for life principle, which is purely the Jianghu way of revenge. And while the prince's actions have led to countless lives being lost, it is quite obvious that at that moment, ZZ isn't referring to the larger picture, but one particular life he thought was lost right there in front of his eyes. That is the ultimate reason he puts away his self as the officer of law, and is just Zhan Zhao taking his revenge. More than appropriately, BYT gets to it before him, preventing him from crossing that line.
Huo Linglong and Bai Yutang are the epitome of "friends to call when you need to discreetly get rid of a dead body"
they will do that AND frame your high school bully for the crime
a proposal (for three)
Fandom: Zhan Zhao Adventures (雨霖铃)
Relationship: Zhan Zhao/Huo Linglong/Bai Yutang, Huo Linglong & Bai Yutang
Summary:
“All I knew back then was that I refuse to marry a man like Shao Jizu under any circumstances. And if I were to marry someone…I would choose to be with someone like…” The name teetered on the edge of her tongue, but for reasons she could not acknowledge aloud, it felt glued in place, refusing to leave her dry lips. “…I know.” Or: Huo Linglong was forced to make a choice, because otherwise everyone else was going to make one for her.

sometimes two characters are codependently, toxically enmeshed, doomed to mutually define and haunt each other forever. and not fucking.
Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy & Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro IN ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION SEASON 2
"it would be so good if it was good" will haunt you but "it's extremely good, except for the one or two parts which are so bad it's genuinely kind of insulting" will straight up drive you insane
one has you making posts like "okay but if the author UNDERSTOOD the POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS of the story they were telling, and leaned into it, it would actually be a really interesting exploration of..."
the other has you pacing your bedroom at one in the morning going "why. why would you ever in a million years do it like that. genuinely what possible thought process was involved. was the writer possessed by a fucking ghost or something."
