Found this in my notes - think it was supposed to be an ask to someone; can’t remember if it was sent.
But here’s a Sterek plot bunny where the Sheriff is the one who time-travelled.
Time travel fic but it’s the Sheriff who time travels to the night Scott got bitten. Maybe it takes him a while to accept what happened so he couldn’t change much in the beginning, but once he does, he inserts himself right into the situation and tries to make things better. Stiles is amazed/bewildered at how calm his Dad is taking the supernatural in, and how he knows so many things. (The Sheriff refuses to let Stiles know about the time travel, because who knows what he’ll get up to.)
Now, the Sheriff knows Derek in his time, and he’s a good guy, though grumpy, so he vouches for him. But then he quickly realises Derek was hiding in Stiles’ bedroom when he was a fugitive. And he doesn’t know how to handle that. And when he observes their interactions and Stiles’s reactions closely, suddenly so many of Stiles’ actions in the future start making sense to the Sheriff when he starts piecing together that maybe his son isn’t that straight, and at least finds Derek attractive, if not more. Did they ever have something going on? The sheriff doesn’t know, and doesn’t want to find out. At the very least he knows nothing should happen when Stiles is still underage.
Of course the Sheriff tries to be a good adult and reliable support to Derek, but doesn’t encourage anything between him and Stiles. (Absolutely no using the windows to enter Stiles’ bedroom, etc.) But somehow in trying to help Derek and yet separate him from Stiles where possible, (He thinks maybe if Stiles sees Derek less, there’ll be fewer chances of anything happening. Because of course if anything were to happen, Stiles would be the one making the first move.) the Sheriff overcompensates, and inevitably causes Stiles and Derek to spend even more time together.
Maybe Stiles gets jealous of how accommodating/understanding his Dad is of Derek and how much time he seems to be spending with him. (His Dad meets up with Derek regularly and refuses for Stiles to be involved, like what’s up with these secretive meetings?) Somehow after many shenanigans and misunderstandings, Stiles/Derek start seeing each other in a new light, they slowly get along etc. And Sterek still happens eventually when Stiles is of age.
The sheriff can’t believe he’s partially responsible for them getting together and gives up and washes his hands off them. (Derek is required to have dinner with them once a week.) (And everyone lives because the sheriff is there, yes, and they tease the pair a lot.)
So… Wisdom Kaye dropped a video showing his top 3 outfit choices for men to dress ‘slutty’: link
And they are:
1. The Henley
2. The Baby Tee
3. The Tank
And guess who has worn 2 out of 3 on the show? Yeah, Derek freaking Hale, that’s who. No wonder Stiles everyone thirsts after him lol. The wardrobe team on production really knew what they were doing.
Now someone needs to put him in a baby tee. Maybe washing machine shenanigans? A prank from Stiles or the betas?
Sterek will always have a special place in my heart because this is the only time something I ship is the most popular ship of its fandom.
It feels amazing to have so many quality fanworks to enjoy. I thought I was done with Sterek years ago but nope. There’s just too many fanfiction waiting to be read. I keep finding old and new favourites and it really is such a treat!
continuing my qaf rewatch and im at the last ep of season two and Justin just said “he doesn’t love me he just fucks me” talking about Brian aaaand now i need Stiles to say that about Derek.
i’ve written that dynamic a bit before but ugh its never enough.
Stiles developing feelings of self loathing because he can’t say no to Derek. he loves him. and Derek did so much for him… but he doesn’t love him. not really. to Stiles, Derek doesn’t love him. he just likes to fuck him and Stiles lets him. every. single. time.
meanwhile Derek isn’t much of a talker. doesn’t explain things. he assumes his actions are self explanatory. he’s a wolf, to him it’s implicit. he makes love to Stiles all the time, they sleep in the same bed most nights, they lead pack meetings together. they’re together. Stiles is his.
but Stiles may need more than just actions, he may need some words, some affirmation, some clarification. something. because he kind of feels like Derek’s plaything. it’s irrational mostly by that point. Stiles has been ruminating in his ugly feelings for so long he’s not really thinking rationally anymore, can’t see things for what they are anymore.
i also like the idea of Derek not being mmm idk how to explain it. not emotionally immature per se but stunted maybe? like he doesn’t see Stiles’ social/emotional cues for what they are. and Derek thinks as long as they’re having sex and kissing and touching then they’re okay or will be okay. it could definitely be a wolf thing too or a mix of things.
so they’re not on the same page at all and Stiles refuses to bring things up for fear of losing what he’s got with Derek and Derek doesn’t because communicating isn’t his forte and he and Stiles are still having sex and kissing and touching so that must mean they’re okay.
what a mess lmfao Stiles will be a wreck and Derek will become so fucking clingy and possessive it will come off as borderline abusive (its not, but Stiles isn’t thinking clearly and thinks Derek doesn’t love him so he thinks Derek is playing tricks and mind games with him when in fact he isn’t he’s trying to fix things the only way he knows how).
obviously it comes to a head and things get resolved of course. Derek manages to communicate his feelings for Stiles in a way that Stiles is receptive to and finally they’re on the same page.

“Well,” Stiles says slowly, “you need to do it if you want their cooperation. It sounds like you either take a mate or we can’t do the spell.”
“So that’s it, then? You think I should settle? Give up?”
Stiles squints at him. “What? Give up on what? Sitting up here alone for the rest of your life?”
“I’m not alone up here.”
“Uh, I’m here all the time and I’ve never seen anyone.” Stiles gestures around the room at Derek’s sparse belongings, then at his own shoes, backpack, the hoodie draped over Derek’s chair. “Everything in here is either yours or mine, man.”
Derek holds Stiles’ gaze as he lets the comment settle between them, and it hits him with a soft oh. Stiles jerks back a little, eyes wide as he realizes how much is going on beneath the surface here. Derek considers Stiles someone who keeps him from being alone.
Sameeee. I was in the fandom back when season 2 aired, waited enthusiastically for season 3a, watched it, and stopped there. I know people love void!Stiles and the acting in 3b, but I just couldn’t bring myself to continue watching Teen Wolf because of all the character deaths since 3a.
Even for fic, I sometimes avoid fics that deal with the nogitsune aftermath… I’m a coward. It’s been years, but all I wanted was a show with the Hale pack and pack nights! I crave for Sterek fics where no one dies, or better yet, an alive Hale family!
Stiles, who’s constantly in motion, even when asleep, flailing like a fish on land and waking up with his body contorted in all sorts of positions, somehow meeting his match in Derek, master of cuddles.
Except Derek doesn’t so much as cuddles Stiles, but bear hugs him like he’s grappling his prey when they sleep together, so Stiles always wakes up molded against Derek.
Stiles: (limb-locked with Derek’s vice-like arms and legs around him, face smushed against his chest) …derek. air?
Derek: (mumbles and shifts a little so there’s a pocket of air around Stiles, but still holds him tight)
So this Sterek au fic I read had Erica saying how Stiles ‘grows on you’ and Derek going all ‘well fungi do that too’, and Stiles took it to mean Derek was comparing him to mushrooms.
And it got me thinking. What if, when they first met, Derek made some throwaway line about Stiles and fungi (because he’s always there attached to Scott), and Stiles took it to heart and never forgot it?
To Stiles, Derek comparing him to a mushroom must mean that Stiles is terribly unattractive to him, and wow what a dick. Who would want to be complimented by the hot grumpy werewolf who’s probably a serial killer anyway.
Fast-forward to many months, and many life-threatening and life-saving shenanigans later, Stiles and Derek start working together, start trusting each other, and the pack comes together and thrives. Stiles, of course, starts noticing Derek, and to be fair, he has always noticed him, but a Derek who doesn’t always resort to violence first, and a calmer Derek who is a smidge less grumpy these days is a good look on him. But then so what if Stiles finds Derek attractive, and trusts him, and likes his sarcastic comments, and wants to climb him like a tree? The guy thinks of Stiles as a mushroom!
As more months pass and the pack grows closer, Stiles is mostly resigned to yet another hopeless crush on someone beautiful and unattainable. By this time him and most of the pack have graduated high school and are making plans for college. Stiles leaves Beacon Hills for college, and has no high expectations for it, thinking it’ll be the same as high school.
After all, the hottest girl in the world whom he had had a crush on since he was a boy had always looked at him in disdain or like an insignificant bug, and the hottest guy in the world that was crush number 2 thinks of him as unattractive as a mushroom. Even though Stiles and Lydia are friends now and often work together as the research arm of the pack, and Stiles has gotten over his childhood crush and they work so well as friends Lydia may be his best friend after Scott. And even though Stiles and Derek have a cordial relationship these days and often talk to one another and have even made plans for scheduled calls while Stiles is away at college!
So Stiles is surprised when he gets invited to parties, gets hit on, and even gets a few dates and one night stands at college. Stiles can’t make sense of it, but goes along with it tries to enjoy it as much as he can. Maybe people are more adventurous and less picky in college?
Meanwhile, back in Beacon Hills, Derek is dealing with most of the pack travelling out of town for college, and also with his growing fondness and attraction to Stiles. Somehow, maybe through his scent after a FaceTime call with Stiles, Erica finds out, along with Boyd, who stayed back in Beacon Hills. Erica is overjoyed and starts making plans for them to get together. Boyd shrugs and comments how ‘Stiles is gonna talk Derek’s ear off’ if they date. Isaac makes a face when Erica tell him the news later during their weekly call, because Isaac and Stiles still can’t stop acting assholish to each other, but still hums in approval.
And Derek seriously considers. Beacon Hills is peaceful these days, the pack is strong, his therapy is helping, and he feels ready for a relationship. He trusts Stiles, is attracted to him, and wants something more with him. And going by Stiles’s scent whenever he’s near Derek, Derek suspects Stiles is the same.
The more Derek mulls over it, the more confident he becomes, and he really wants to try, wants to make it work with Stiles. So Derek starts talking more during his scheduled calls with Stiles, asking if there’s anything or anyone interesting for the week (he knows Stiles is single at the moment, but wants to make sure there isn’t anyone new), dropping hints like asking when Stiles will be back for his break (even though Derek has a calendar with everyone’s schedules), and if maybe they could go somewhere. Erica, Boyd and Isaac comments and advises, though Derek mostly ignores those. (“Send nudes!” Erica suggests).
And it just… flies all over Stiles. Stiles is just happy that Derek is getting chattier and seems to be doing well, and would have suspected him to be dating but doesn’t because he knows Erica would have informed everyone within 5 seconds of it happening. So Stiles just sits there and smiles while hearing Derek talk, (Who could have imagined? Stiles being silent and Derek talking?) and dreading the day that Derek finds someone for real, and resolves to get over this crush, well, maybe slowly.
Their initial meeting and that throwaway comment was so deeply ingrained in Stiles that he is convinced that Derek would never like him that way.
This goes on until Stiles comes back from college for the holidays. Somehow he and Derek end up alone after a pack gathering, and Derek thinks this is his chance and goes for it, directly telling Stiles he likes him, and wants to date him.
Stiles just stares at Derek, open-mouthed for several seconds, until a concerned expression takes over and asks if Derek is ok?
Derek: …what?
Stiles: (concerned) Is something wrong? Are you feeling ok? Wait, is it a curse? Did a witch hex you?!
Derek: (frowning) Stiles, I just asked you out. If you wanted to reject me, you could have just said no.
Stiles: …what?
Derek: (sighing, looking at the heavens for patience) Stiles, I like you. I would like to date you, if you’re amenable to it too.
Stiles: (affronted) Amena-what? This doesn’t make any sense! You don’t!
Derek: Don’t what? (suddenly concerned) Stiles, are you ok?
Stiles: Am I ok? No! I’m obviously hearing things and going crazy because there’s no way you could like me! You think I’m ugly!
Derek: Where the hell did you get that from?!
Stiles: YOU CALLED ME A MUSHROOM!
Derek: I DID NO SUCH THING!
Basically it goes on and they argue and Stiles explains and Derek explains and Stiles still is in denial and Derek very patiently tells and shows Stiles that yes he likes him and finds him attractive, and after a long and confusing courtship (Stiles: are you sure? Like sure, sure?), Derek finally gets the boy.
In season 2 episode 9 (Party Guessed), Lydia spikes the punch with wolfsbane. (Which is extremely toxic!!!!) It causes everyone at her party to hallucinate, and from what we see, it appears the main characters hallucinate their worst fears.
First we have Allison who hallucinates a strong, competent, and ruthless hunter version of herself who berates her for being weak and then shoots her in the stomach with an arrow.
Then we have Stiles.
He hallucinates his father dressed in black after his mom's funeral, drunk and still drinking with a bottle of Whiskey in his hand. The sheriff blames Stiles for his mom's death, accusing Stiles of killing his mother.
Next we have Jackson hallucinate. He sees his faceless birth parents and then he himself is faceless. He doesn't know who they are or even who he himself is.
And then last we have Scott. This is where I feel like they went with a shallow choice to have as Scott's worst fear.
He hallucinates Allison and the kanima, who we know is Jackson, making out.
Why was this what Scott feared the most? Why did everyone else have something really huge and extremely personal and just really big?
Allison saw her dark side and what she is capable of.
Stiles saw the blame and guilt of his mother's death, and possibly a memory of a drunken sheriff (but that isn't confirmed).
Jackson saw the not knowing of who he truly is as a person and who he came from and the fear of finding out.
But Scott sees Allison getting it on with someone else.
I get that Allison was his first love. I get that in s2 they are having to sneak around and hide their relationship. But of all the things Scott is dealing with, shouldn't he see him losing his humanity? That's what he struggles with and worries about. Honestly, that would have made so much more sense. I just feel his worst fear being afraid of Allison moving on from him is just kind of shallow.
It's also interesting that everyone's hallucinations has them surrounded by party guests watching and acting like nothing is weird or just staring, except for Scott's. I wonder why? Is it to make his stand out?
Obviously I'm not saying Scott himself is shallow. I see this as more the writers trying to make more drama for their forbidden love. But I wish they had gone with his fear of becoming a monster because it seems like that is his worst fear.
Maybe there is a reason for this, but I just felt that his hallucination fell flat.
Exactly! Sometimes I wonder if someone on the writers’ team secretly hated Scott to keep writing him this way. Even if they wanted Scott and Allison’s relationship to be Scott’s focus, they could have revealed that the Kamina was actually Scott in his hallucination. That would have added some much needed layers and depth.
I didn’t understand why his hallucination had Allison getting it on with the Kanima in the first place. Yeah it was a visual shock to the audience to have Jackson suddenly turn into the Kanima while making out with Allison, but it didn’t make sense as Scott’s hallucination. Not unless Scott sees his werewolf self as a monster, and could potentially become an even more monstrous version as the Kanima. Which is why I feel the only way this scene would make sense was if Scott hallucinated himself as the Kanima.
The relationship between the Sheriff and Stiles is fascinating. It’s a solid father-son relationship, and one of the more wholesome ones on TV. What’s interesting is how much Stiles worries about his dad, from making sure he eats healthy due to heart problems, to making sure he doesn’t know about the supernatural for fear that it’ll endanger him. (at least in seasons 1-3) He also listens in to Noah’s radio calls, knows all his passwords, possibly has copies of his keys.
And that’s interesting because it seems quite excessive, almost obsessive. We know Stiles takes care of others though, most evidently in how he kept a spare inhaler for Scott back before he became a werewolf.
But the Sheriff. We see him as a competent, fair, intelligent man. His deputies respect him. He was elected. So what could have made such a competent man have a son that is so committed to looking out for his wellbeing, at the expense of said son lying about everything and straining their relationship, and also at the expense of said son’s life? Because back in season 1 when they were trapped in the school with a crazed Alpha, Jackson wanted to call the police and Stiles shut him down, rather viciously, because he didn’t want his dad to get dragged into this. When the five of them were in danger.
Most teens his age, with such a seemingly strong and competent dad who is the Sheriff, would have turned to their dad for help in most situations, especially dangerous ones. But not Stiles.
My favourite headcanon (that is very nicely explored in several fics, thank you authors!) to explain Stiles’ behaviour is that after his mom’s death, his dad fell into a depressive spiral and alcoholism. And Stiles had to step up, get the house in order, do the chores, cook, look after his dad, all while he himself was devastated by Claudia’s death. And Noah pulled through somehow later on with Melissa’s help, especially when she commented how Noah was putting most of the burden on Stiles, who was just a kid at the time.
Noah slowly got better and we eventually see him and Stiles having a great relationship at the start of the series. But I think somehow, after this, Stiles lost the trust that his dad could take care of himself without Stiles’ interference.
I don’t like the fact that a lot of people in the Teen Wolf fandom have a hate boner for Scott McCall. They cherry pick and rewrite a lot of his actions and choices as being bad and negative in fics. Which, well, it’s a fanfic and they can write whatever they want, but I still wish more writers, especially Sterek writers, go the other direction regarding their take on Scott.
However, I feel that the writing in seasons 1 and 2 really did a disservice to Scott’s character. I believe if they had written him differently, his character wouldn’t have as many haters.
In season 1, we find that Scott was struggling with being a newly bitten werewolf and having a girlfriend and newfound popularity, and new powers that helped him become a co-captain in lacrosse. We find out later, especially in later seasons, that he didn’t want the bite, and viewed becoming a werewolf as a negative thing. However, instead of writing Scott as having a hard time dealing with becoming a monster and accidentally hurting his loved ones, he was more concerned over Allison finding out his secret and breaking up with him because he’s a werewolf.
Even the fact that Allison’s family are werewolf hunters and her dad might kill him is less concerning for him than Allison finding out. This just doesn’t gel with Scott’s character in the later seasons. I feel that the writers were too fixated on having him portray all these ‘teenage’ emotions over his real character? Or didn’t show his dilemma well enough. We know he’s kind, believes the good in everyone and tries to do the right thing. The part where Scott wanted to show up for the lacrosse game? They could’ve written it as Scott, fearful of hurting someone and not wanting to show up to the lacrosse game, yet had no choice but to do so, later ended up learning to control his shift. It would have made him heroic instead of being a selfish but lucky teenager. They almost had it, really! Because just when Scott was about to change his mind, the coach forced him to play the game. They could have just made Scott reluctant to play the game from the start.
And his reaction to Derek killing Peter was just super not Scott-like at all? They made Scott bear a grudge against Derek over this, but I don’t believe Scott would have been able to kill Peter?? He doesn’t advocate for killing at all, even for the alpha pack.
Season 2 Scott had him coming into his powers, saved many people, and had a lot of heroic moments. He even taught Isaac how to use his werewolf powers to drain the pain from others! He’s showing the good these powers can bring instead of causing harm to others Iike what Derek’s betas were doing due to being on a power trip. He was supposed to be heroic, a parallel to Derek who had his hubris arc. However, the writing in the last episode killed all of that. They made Scott secretly work with Deaton and trick Derek to give Gerald the bite. It was smart, yeah, but most viewers can’t see it as heroic, because Derek was immobile and forced to it. The shots chosen were made to let viewers feel uncomfortable, that the action was wrong. Especially when later in season 3a, Derek was once again immobile and used by the alpha pack to kill Boyd.
I just don’t know what the writers were doing when they wrote these moments in seasons 1 and 2. It’s like they don’t know how to write a main character. Like I said, if these scenes were written differently, I believe there would be fewer Scott haters.
They really should have focused on highlighting Scott’s admirable traits, and make people root for the main character. A flawed main character should still have charisma and a unique strength that draws viewers to them. Even if the character development was to happen slowly, your main character needs to have that strength, albeit small, from the start. I liked Scott in the later seasons, but found him rather bland and unrelatable in season 1.
Everyone should read Goal Line by TyReed. It’s my all-time favourite.
Summary:
After losing a bet with his best friend, super-dork Stiles Stilinksi is forced to play one semester of football for the Beacon Hills High School "Silver Wolves". While reluctant, Stiles is never one to go back on a deal, and follows through with the bet. After all, it's just for one season.
The only problem?
Stiles is apparently the best kicker the school (or state) has seen in over 50 years.
With the town, the coaching staff, the school, and his team all cheering him on and giving him a circle of friends he'd never though possible before, how is Stiles going to fit in with this new crowd of people he'd always hated? How is Stiles going to live through this season, the training, and is he going to be the player everyone thinks he can be? What happens when the season is over, and Stiles can leave the team with the bet ended?
Though at the forefront of his mind, how is he supposed to keep his life-long crush on star Quarterback (and one of his newest friends), Derek Hale, in check?
