so, I’m doing @smilebackwards' fic rec game even though no one asked me—Sterek fic only. I only just joined tumblr last year but have been combing through the Sterek archive for years so here are a few selections from the bookmarks I’ve saved from the 77,000+ Sterek stories on AO3. ❤️

Recommend a fic that lives in your brain rent free.

Lap Magnet by Prairie_Grass

I am not original for this answer. I mean, the fic has 29k kudos. But Derek and Stiles fall into a fugue state and don’t even know they’re on the fast-track to being fully mated. Lots of “we shouldn’t but maybe we could just. . .” Justifications as they dance closer and closer to the edge of no going back.

Recommend a fic that is not posted on AO3.

Maybe cheating here because the fic is not on AO3 anymore. Pour one out for “Into You” by Reillyblack. I’m pretty sure this is why you don’t put your fic into collections, because this gorgeous story about Stiles finding his role as the Alpha’s “comforter” and then being devastated (briefly) when he finds out Derek has put in his bid with a matchmaker was suddenly changed to “mystery work” status a couple years ago and is no longer accessible.

Trust me; I check ALL the time.

Feral Derek only responds to Stiles—a common trope but this short fic has such a sweet moment of vulnerability that I always go back to it. This means a lot because I don’t know how I even found it since my Sterek filters are set to 10k+ stories only.

Stiles meets wolf-Derek and human-Derek without realizing they are one and the same. His allegiance to the wolf is as endearing to the reader as it is to Derek. Very fun fic (like everything by this author) and long (58k).

unbeknownst to each other, Derek and Stiles write fanfic about a ship they love (a ship that reflects their own relationship) and fall in love in three different ways. The fic is heavily Tumblr-thread based.

I did a search in my bookmarks for “pretend” and there are so many fake relationship fics that I don’t know where to start.

Au where weres are known and Derek loses control and bites Stiles in a whole brouhaha that involves hunters, law enforcement, and werewolf Alphas. Stiles was in the wrong so he dutifully reports to the Hale house to fulfill his courtship with a very shy and remorseful Derek. But Stiles just SMELLED so GOOD.

I am weird and save all my bookmarks in my browser with brief descriptions to help me remember what I liked about it. This bookmark says: “derek saves stiles and stiles gets attached and the sheriff doesn't want it to happen but it does A+ dynamics here”

In Any Version of Reality by alisvolatpropiis. This 40k fic from 2013 still has fewer than 4k kudos, which is insane to me.

Seven Sterek pairings from other universes are sent to the loft for one week by a trickster spirit (to torture our guys who are secretly still pining) and the author takes the time to draw out the other Stereks with great love, creating the catalyst for our guys to get together and yes, a giant orgy does occur. I was wary because I’m so OTP-centric but the Stereks are all drawn with such love and they all care so much for each other that it seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

I just read this for the first time last week and now I know what evangelists feel like.
