First complete drawing using the Ipad Pro with Apple Pencil. I am really liking the pencil brush in Procreate. Anyone has thoughts on how I should name this drawing.Â
Iâm feeling so tempted to get McDonaldâs happy meal in Venice!
They have Pokemon toys this month...
Can we as the studyblr community stop glorifying staying up until 3am?
Want to know the downsides?
Itâs bad for your health
Your brain canât process the information youâve studied (so an all-nighter will most likely do more harm than help you succeed)
The quality of what youâre working on will go downhill if you donât take breaks
It is bad for your health!
Go to bed on time and give your brain and your health a break. Take care of yourselves!

Quick drawing session after hackathon.
Think. Plan. Execute. I saw this on reddit and felt so inspired.
Crows are scary They
use tools
Can be taught to speak (like parrots)
Have huge brains for birds
like seriously their brain-to-body size ratio is equal to that of a chimpanzee
They vocalize anger, sadness, or happiness in response to things
they are scary smart at solving puzzles
some crows stay with their mates until one of them dies
they can remember faces
SIDENOTE HERE BECAUSE HOLY SHIT. They did an experiment where these guys wore masks and some of them fucked with crows. Pretty soon the crows recognized the masks = douchebag. But the nice guys with masks they left alone. THEN, OH WEâRE NOT DONE, NO SIR crows that WERENâT EVEN IN THE EXPERIMENT AND NEVER SAW THE MASK BEFORE knew about mask-dudes and attacked them on sight. THEY PASSED ON THE FUCKING INFORMATION TO THEIR CROW BUDDIES.
They remember places where crows were killed by farmers and change their migration patterns.
Guys Iâm really scared of crows now. (q)Â
Yeah but have you seen thisÂ
A colleague of my dadâs lives next to a lake, and looked out the window one morning to see a duck trapped in the ice. A crow swooped down. âOh hell,â she thought, expecting carnage, because crows are opportunists. But the crow chipped at the ice with its beak until the duck was free.
Idk of this counts but a few crows saved me from a magpie swooping attack once ,theyâre bros who can tell when magpies are being unreasonable and need to chill
I love crows so damn much. When I was fifteen, I hit a pretty serious bout of depression, to the point I was in my room for months. Well, a family of crows made a nest in a tree outside my window. There were two parents and two chicks. One chick was healthy and strong. One was weak, and had a caw like something being strained. It sounded more like a rooster crowing and so my parents jokingly named him âBuckâ.Well⊠months passed and Buckâs sibling was taught to fly. His parents focused on the sibling because the sibling was strong. The father stayed behind to try and teach Buck, but I saw him try to fly, fail, and crash to the floor. His father helped him back up into the tree.
Every day, I would watch Buck from my window until one day I opened it and started talking to him. He was small and gangly and he couldnât caw right. His feathers were all over the place and I felt a kinship. So I made a deal with him. I told him that if he could do it, if he could fly, then I could find the strength to get up. Well⊠near the end of the season, after talking with him every day, I finally saw him get out of the nest. He went to the edge of his branch, braced himself, and jumped⊠and just before he hit the ground, he soared back up into the sky. I cheered harder than I ever had before.
That winter, Buck left the area. I was crestfallen. I felt like Iâd lost a friend. But I was so damn proud of him.Â
Cut to the next spring? Iâm walking up the driveway one day when suddenly I hear a sound⊠a broken caw. I look up, and Buck is sitting in a tree above my head. He stared at me and puffed his feathers, then hopped down in front of me and cawed again. I was so damn thrilled, and I told him how proud I was of him. He ruffled his feathers and then soared off into his old tree.Â
That summer? I heard two broken caws. One from Buck⊠and one from his chick.
Cut to ten years later? We have a family of crows who all have a very distinct caw and they come here and spend every spring, summer, and fall on our property. Buck still greets me every spring.
that last reply made me wanna cry. thatâs so beautiful.
Donât forget the Russian Crow SLEDDING DOWN A ROOF not once, but twice.Â
this one morning i kept hearing really loud caws, i remember it was like 5am, LIKE REALLY LOUD AND ANNOYING AND AGGRESSIVE, so loud that i could hear it through a closed window, and i eventually went outside to check it out. there was a crow on my front lawn, it had an injury on its head and couldnât fly and there were two other crows circling right above it, and they were cawing like mad.Â
i tried to get close and take a better look and one of them dived super low and tried to attack me. so i went back in the house and chopped some sliced raw meat and tossed it at him from a distance.
a few more times later, very soon after, they could tell i was trying to help, and did not attack me. i was âallowedâ to walk up close and pick him up, he couldnât drink water properly so i had to dip my finger in a bowl and stick it in his mouth.
i did this few times a day and it went on for about a week before he disappeared, i thought he recovered and left, but he came back the next day and lands on me, and i see him around the block quite often, and he would come sit on my shoulder for a few minutes and then fly away again. i feel like iâve adopted a son.
Best birbs !!
I was talking to my parents about how many of my friends are already getting job offers, internships, and study abroad experiences as rising college juniors.
I said, âIt feels like my life is buffering, like when you get that spinning pinwheel thing on your laptop.â
My dad responded, âYeah, but when it finally loads, itâll be HD quality.â
So I thought Iâd share that bit with you all. If youâre feeling the same way, support your friends, but keep your head down, work hard, and wait for itâyour time will come. :)
Refugees unlawfully detained in airports after Trumpâs immigration executive order
On Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending the nationâs refugee settlement program and barring immigrants from countries with âwould-be terrorists,â namely Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
The executive order went into immediate effect, meaning refugees on planes to the United States landed in a nation newly hostile to their presence.Â
Though they were given permission to settle here by the U.S. State Department, after a long, complex vetting process, they are now being detained in U.S. airports, waiting for news of their fate. Read more.
Itâs started. Publicize this. Do not be complacent. Do not say âWell, theyâre onlyâŠâ
Please spread the word for anyone potentially affected by the ban !!!
booooooooooooooooooooost
Friendly reminder that âdoing your bestâ does not mean pushing yourself to the limits of endurance, but only doing the best you can without hurting yourself.
Further, even friendlier reminder that itâs completely fine if that means you donât do as much as someone else.
Theyâre not you, and your contribution is just as valid as theirs.
Oh wow. This is huge. I didnât think of it like this. Iâve always seen âdoing my bestâ as pushing myself past my limits and hurting myself to try and meet other peopleâs (and my own) expectations. But I never thought of it like this. I never considered my best meaning working as much as my body allows at that time. I should really just be taking 1-2 classes a semester but I feel like Iâm not doing âmy bestâ unless Iâm taking 5. And I suffer physically and mentally because of it.
Additionally, your best can vary from day to day. Super important. Basically, thereâs no point to beating yourself up.

What are Sketch Notes?
By Kevin Thorn
Basically, sketchnoting is doodling while youâre taking notes. Iâve been doing this ever since I got in trouble in the 2nd grade for drawing Dr. Seuss characters when I was supposed be taking a quiz. Iâve got a library of Moleskine sketch books littered all over the house today. I have one for Sketch Quotes (more on that in a future post), one for character development, and even one I call my âSunday Sermon Sketchbookâ where I sketch in church every week.
Iâve tried converting to taking digital notes by means of various apps on my iPad. Whether itâs a well-built note taking app or an app that mimics handwriting in a notebook, I always come back to my trusty pencil. Thereâs just something about the simplicity of a pencilâs carbon scraping across the fibers of paper that no fancy app can duplicate.
Some time last year I Stumbled onto the Sketch Note Armyâs site. Whooda thunk there was an army?! Thereâs a lot of great information out there (the interwebs) about doodling, visual note taking, books, communicating concepts with simple doodles, and more. I started these pages about three months ago and it wasnât until recently that Mike Rohdeâs new book, The Sketchnote Handbook came out that I was inspired to finish them. Nothing fancy. Nothing about what the research says. Nothing about theories. And certainly nothing about skill. Just plain âole sketching notes.

Iâm going to be traveling quite a bit to various conferences in the next few months (see sidebar). I intend on sketchnoting each of them with a posting of those notes here. If youâre attending any of these conferences, look me up. Iâd love to see your sketchnotes!
how to start studying after school
clean up your desk: itâs hard to concentrate when thereâs a pile of rubbish on your desk. the chance of you fiddling with things is also higher! youâll get more done by cleaning your desk! if youâre looking for an easy way to organise your desk, check out these handy organisers!
get your books: get out all the books you need to study that particular subject. if itâs geography, an atlas might be handy.
get a notebook: if youâre in uni or college itâs a good idea to re-write all your notes for your classes that day. make them look clean and tidy. if youâre in secondary school and youâre studying for a test, summarize everything you have learned. in any case, itâs best to have a few notebooks on your desk too. hereâs a 4 pack of spiral notebooks for $7.04!
grab some pens: seems self explanatory! i recommend you having an ordinary pen, a highlighter and a pencil on hand. (a.k.a. the basics!) here are some super cute gel pens!
turn off your phone: by turning off your phone, you will get less distracted by social media. sure, people wonât be able to reach you but youâll get some peace and quiet. obviously leave it on if youâre expecting an important call!
look for a study playlist: if you easily get distracted by your laptop too, skip this step. i personally find it harder to get distracted by my laptop than my phone, so i leave it on and look for some music to study to. hereâs a masterpost of some good playlists to listen to!
get a glass of water: you really need your h2o, everyone. grab a large glass or fill up a water bottle. some super cute ones: i ii iii
get a healthy snack: if youâre like me and you love snacking on things while your studying, the best thing to do is to grab something healthy. cut up some apples and sprinkle some cinnamon on them (try it. itâs amazing.), grab some hummus and some celery or carrots or cucumber to dip in it, fill a little bowl with nuts, treat yourself to a square of dark chocolate! if youâre studying during dinner time or lunch time, make yourself a nourishment bowl to nibble on. for more study snack ideas, go to pinterest and snoop around the study snack tag for a while. try out my favourite smoothie bowl too!
take a deep breath: i know from personal experience that sometimes the workload can be really scary and freak you out. the most important thing to do is to take a deep breath and to tell yourself you can get through all your work. you can do anything if you try hard enough!
get cracking: now that youâve done steps 1-9, you can actually start studying! good luck!
