“I would appreciate it,” she replied with a small smile that only lifted the corners of her mouth somewhat and then returned to normal. “I haven’t felt safe in a very long time,” she said this slowly but felt the words come out as quickly as water would a hose. She wondered what type of place Randy had found and squatted in and found herself trying to figure if there were others with him even though he didn’t say. It couldn’t have just been him and Skids, there had to be more Outlanders. There were too many to only have a few survive, it didn’t make sense to her. “Do you have any food?”
“Not on me, but back at home base, yeah.” The worry started to take on a more permanent look to his face. He knew the Outlanders were in rough shape, but it took seeing Maureen to realize the toll it’d taken on them all. Many of them hadn’t been to the city in who knew how long, so even getting food would be dangerous for them without the proper credentials. It broke him down a bit. They were his family. Granted, he couldn’t take them all in right after without risk of a secondary raid, but maybe they could slowly patch something back together. Could Maureen be trusted. “As long as you can promise to keep a little secret.” He featured a half smirk before looping his arm through his and leading her down the alleyway, away from some patrol androids who seemed to be slightly curious in the pair in the alleyway.
