“No, I’m not.” Randy pushed himself up to go lean against the wall where Skids was washing his wounds. “It’s not all your ‘goddamn fault’, but you charging in headstrong and blind and getting yourself killed will be your fault if you don’t take it down a peg.” He watched Skids, brow furrowed, as he searched for something and ended up cursing, clearly unable to find it. “Wind down, carrot top.” His tone was still harsh, but the nickname softened it a bit. “Take a breather. C’mon.” Randy nodded his head towards the theater arena they still shared. He bitched about the space being too small for two full grown guys, but he knew he actually enjoyed the company.
He moved to go back to scrubbing again, feeling like his face was still unclean. He scrubbed so hard that his face turned pink, feeling raw under the drenched rag. The nickname barely registered until he started to focus on what Randy was saying. How many people had they lost today? He couldn’t remember all their names at the moment never the less know the count. “I can’t fuckin’ do it. Can’t be like Ma and Pop.. it’s over.”
