Star Trek Discover S2E5
The opening montage is done well to show events from the last episode are being handled but we wonāt necessarily know the details for some time. A mystery has been set forth and we just have to sit on it. The graphics of an approaching nebula once again make heavy use of the color red (a graphic depiction that Iām beginning to believe represents a limited budget for space backgrounds this season). The opening shock had an impact, and Burnhamās response was right on point. A conversation in the first act was particularly dramatic; itās a coin toss for me about whether it was perfectly tense or unnecessary. The dialogue felt spiteful rather than deliberate but that would definitely fit with the characters in play.
Ā The episode proceeds to bring Tilly to some of her most human scenes yet. Netflixās Stranger Things guest star with the Upside Down featuring this episode. I will say this episode features one of the coolest visual sequences ever in a Star Trek series. There is a meta forming about how Starfleet is organized that confuses me immensely and I dislike it for it enables only negative storylines so far. The Starfleet Admiral linking the bureaucratic shuffle through the episode is well cast so Iām not too ruffled by the politics. The conclusion of the episode was a good link to the rest of the season but certainly, the end of this episode has clear dividing lines between it and the first five episodes of the season.
