“Oh,” Erin hummed. That wasn’t her own approach at all. She enjoyed very much grooming her pokemon, and they seemed to like it in turn. “Well you must be a really good trainer for that to happen! Because she looks absolutely gorgeous.”

Alastor cleared his throat awkwardly. “I just let her live like she would in the wild. She seems to like it. Figured if she didn’t, she’d let me know.”

Ludo shrugged. “I always have a few pokeballs with me. Thought that went without saying,” he said as he turned towards the jeep and slung his bag gently into it. The six pack made a clink sound as it was set down. “Are you looking to catch anything?”

“Not really,” he said with a smile as he leaned against the jeep. “I’m looking to just enjoy a couple nights out in the wild with my boyfriend.” He climbed into the vehicle and started the engine, reaching back to scratch Riot behind his ears.

“So I wasn’t really sure what to bring, but I’ve got a sleeping bag and beer in my backpack,” Ludo said with a grin as soon as Alastor opened his door. “Never been camping before.”

‘Really?” Alastor asked, arching his brow slightly. He supposed it made sense if Ludo was a city boy. He waited for Riot and Gwen to run out of the cabin, hiw own bag on his back -- he had already backed the tent in the jeep. “Not even to catch Pokemon?” He loaded up the jeep as the Pokemon jumped into the back, clearly excited to go on an adventure.

Owen simply rolled his eyes and instead of moving to do what he was told, he raised his hand up to signal down a waitress and ordered drinks for the two of them that way. “When I’m not out in the field, I’m lazy. That’s how it works.”

“Lazy is an understatement,” Alastor rolled his eyes back and leaned back in his chair. “So given up the hunt for my mystery date yet?” he asked as he took another bite of pizza.

Erin looked over at the ninetails and smiled. “She’s so pretty,” she said as she hugged her vulpix to her chest, and the little pokemon started licking her chin. “Wow, and her coat looks so shiny. What kind of upkeep do you do?” she asked as she made herself welcome in the seat across from him.

Alastor shrugged as he reached down to run his fingers through his Pokemon’s fur. “I don’t really do anything. She kinda does her own thing and I bathe her if she gets too dirty or gets into something she shouldn’t.”

“Really?” Aurora asked, raising her eyebrows in momentary surprise. He certainly seemed generous. “Are you sure? I don’t want you to end up not being full because you gave me a piece.” 

“I’m sure,” he smiled. “You look like you’re about to fall over. And,” Alastor shrugged. “I’m in a giving mood. Have a slice.”

Emori shrugged. He put in a good word for her, but she didn’t think he was the sole reason she got in. “It wasn’t exactly like that. I went on a mission with him. We helped some gibles in a cave.”

It was a fair choice to start a rookie on. Alastor reached into the shed and grabbed a bag full of survival gear she would need and then a crate of emergency supplies. “Load up on of the jeeps with this,” he said as he passed it to her. “I’m sure there are already rangers there, they will be able to help you from there.”

“Sassy!” Erin called as she snatched up her vulpix from on top of the table dangerously close to Alastor’s pizza. “I’m so sorry!”

“It’s alright,” he laughed. Alastor liked pokemon more than people and never minded when they took his food. “Though, I have to admit -- I’m surprised Gwen didn’t say something first,” he grinned as he looked down at the ninetails.

Aurora let out an embarrassed laugh. She hadn’t expected her stomach to growl so loudly when she caught the scent of pizza. “Sorry about that… I guess I didn’t realize how hungry I was. But I promise I’m not trying to steal your pizza.”

“It’s alright,” Alastor shrugged. “Here, grab a piece -- you look like your blood sugar is about to crash at any moment. You might not make it through the line.”

“But that costs money,” Owen whined, taking a seat before proper invitation. He flipped the chair around so that he could rest his arms on the back. “It’s easier to just steal yours.”

‘You’re a cheap bastard you know that,” Alastor laughed. “Get yourself a beer and me a whiskey and maybe I’ll let you have a slice.”

“You underestimate me if you think I can’t eat this by myself. Get your own,” Alastor smirked as he picked up another piece of pizza.

Emori turned around and glanced at the shed. “Oh,” she said and started walking over there. She wasn’t used to going out with more than just her pokemon in her hip pack. “Why do we need gear anyway?” she asked as she started putting everything together in addition to the food she knew she needed.

Alastor rolled his eyes. “So, I take it your the one Owen allowed without taking the training course.” He grit his teeth. “You do more than just walking the fields. You have to actually take care of the Pokemon.”

Emori threw up her hands and took a step back, “Fine, fine, I hear you,” she said and turned to walk towards the side of the island she was supposed to be on. He was nicer when his pokemon was with him, and eating her sandwich.

Alastor shook his head, new rangers were always so cocky. It was sad that it usually took a dead Pokemon to knock it out of them, but they would learn. “Aren’t you forgetting something?” he called out to her as he pointed towards the shed where they kept the gear.

Ludo shrugged. He didn’t mind doing a walk of shame in the morning in his same clothes from the previous night. He stretched and sat up with a grin before following Alastor to his shower.

Alastor smirked as Ludo followed him into the bathroom and turned the water on. He wrapped his arms around the larger man’s waist and smiled at him before kissing him. “I was hoping that would be your answer,” he whispered as he shut the door behind them.

Emori rolled her eyes. She couldn’t help herself. The way he talked was just so self important. “Yeah, yeah I know,” she said. “Wanna watch me do the rounds too?”

Alastor narrowed his eyes and took a step closer to her. “This is your first day. Be here for a few years and then you can do things your way. Until then, it’s my way.”

Ludo chuckled and let Alastor cuddle in close. “It was funny, I laughed,” he pointed out. He sighed and adjusted himself so Alastor could be comfortable. “Do you need a towel or anything?” he asked, knowing his window was closing before he would be willing to get out of bed.

At the question he noted the way his skin was starting to stick and ache. He shook his head. “Nah, I’ll hop in the shower -- I think it’s a little late for a towel to do much. If you want you can go grab what you need from your place ---- or you can join me.”

“I’m getting there,” Emori said with her hand held up for reassurance. “The vaccine’s out in the general population now, I’m sure it’ll make no difference if I’m there now or in ten minutes,” she said. 

“And if the medication missed a herd? Or has not reached that side of the island?” Alastor raised a brow as he looked at her, lips a fine line. “When dealing with living things -- every minute counts. Eggs are hatching every day -- this virus is fatal to the young.”
