Ranger Command releasing ANOTHER new episode on a Wednesday? Yup! Itâs New Comic Book Day once again with the release of BOOM! Studios Power Rangers Issue 1.
Eric welcomes back writer Ryan Parrott to the show for a new interview to discuss the launch of both books, Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers.
For Mighty Morphin Issue 1, Ryan talks about Zordonâs past, writing a new side of Zordon, his favorite monster to date, Tommyâs sense of responsibility to the Green Ranger powers and the big reveal with Candice.
With Power Rangers Issue 1, Ryan talks about a sense of hope in seemingly dark times, a potential future story point for Jasonâs Dad, expanding character moments with Jason and Rocky and more.
A big thanks to BOOM! Studios and Ryan Parrott for scheduling this interview. Enjoy!
This episode contains massive spoilers for Issues Mighty Morphin Issue 1 and Power Rangers 1, so please listen after you are able to read the comic.
Listen now:Â Ranger Command Power Hour Extra Episode 170 â âRanger Command Interview â Ryan Parrott â The Beginning of Unlimited Powerâ
On Wednesday, November 11th, Power Rangers Issue 1Â will be released from Boom Studios. Last week we got the first look of the second launch in the âUnlimited Powerâ era of Power Rangers comics.
POWER RANGERS #1 reveals a new cosmic threat that only the original Power Rangers, now known as the Omega Rangers â Jason, Trini and Zack â can hope to defeat! But their secret weapon is⊠the villainous Lord Drakkon?! Zordon forbids the Omega Rangers from engaging Drakkon, so if they want to save the universe then theyâll have to go rogue â and go up against their Mighty Morphin allies.
Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:
âFollowing the launch of this past Wednesdayâs Mighty Morphin Issue 1, the story continues in Power Rangers Issue 1. Think of the issues this month as a two-parter of the television show, kind of like a season premiere. While Issues 51-55 felt like a set up for this new arc, Mighty Morphin #1 and Power Rangers #1 are a launchpad for both series to take off in their own directions.
This particular issue sets the Omega Rangers on a quest that I donât think will let them return to Earth anytime soon. The solicits make this point clear that they are on a forbidden path. Forbidden by whom? Zordon. Like Mighty Morphin #1, Zordon is an important part of the consequences going forward.
From the previews, readers should already know that there is a reunion between both teams as they discuss the Empyreal. The Omega Rangers are desperate for information, and itâs clear that Drakkon is the only lead.
There are some superb character moments in this issue. My favorite is a conversation that should have happened in the show between Jason and Rocky about what it means to be the Red Ranger. Members of both teams discuss the oncoming threat of the Empyreal and this sets up almost a division of viewpoints between the teams. Writer Ryan Parrott does a fantastic job giving every character a clear conviction in what they believe. Trini in particular is a standout character of this issue.
Out of the two issues this month, I enjoyed this one a bit more. Both issues are fantastic number ones, but Power Rangers sets up a conflict that wonât be resolved easily. After talking with Ryan on an upcoming interview with Ranger Command, I am excited for the direction the Omega Rangers can go. Like the universe itself, the possibilities are endless.
Artist Francesco Mortarino returns from the last arc Go Go Power Rangers. Seeing his art again feels like a comfy blanket. And his art just continually improves, you can feel the emotions in the conversations. Thereâs also an âactionâ scene towards the end that sets up the covert feel this series is going to take.
To sum it up, Power Rangers Issue 1 sets the Omega Rangers on a journey that will open up readers to the wider universe of show and comics. No longer are the Omega Rangers tied to a âmainâ book or event, this is their story. Omega now, Omega forever!â

On Wednesday, November 4th, Mighty Morphin Issue 1Â will be released from Boom Studios. A couple of weeks ago we got the first look of this new era for Power Rangers comics.
A new Mighty Morphin team has assembled to take on the deadliest threats to Earth â but who is the All New Green Ranger by their side? The new Mighty Morphin team is on a collision course with an even deadlier Lord Zedd, who has a new mission and a new motivation â one that will change everything you thought you knew about our heroes! But even if the Mighty Morphin team can find a way to survive Zedd and their mysterious new enemies, they may discover the greatest threat to their future is the shocking secret of Zordonâs past! A new Mighty Morphin epic begins here, perfect for longtime fans and new readers alike.
Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:
âA ânew eraâ of Power Rangers comics is finally here with the launch of two new titles this month, Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers. With the exciting grand entrance of a new Green Ranger, the finale of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Issue 55) left us with more questions than answers.
This month the mystery continues with a final page reveal that will leave fans stunned, albeit not the answer they may have wanted, but didnât know they needed. Youâll definitely want to go back and reread some past moments featuring the characters involved. The clues found will let you know that this plot point has been in the works for awhile.
Before all of that, this issue starts off with a familiar story structure by writer Ryan Parrott, a flashback. Flashbacks at the beginning of every issue during his run of Go Go Power Rangers helped to inform the current story while giving readers insight into their favorite characters. In past solicits for future issues, we know that this new arc will focus more on Zordon and his past. There are some great personal moments for Zordon in this issue, showing emotions that we rarely saw from the character in the series. I welcome the return of this structure, echoing Parrottâs comments about slowing the book down in our last interview.
For the Rangers side, all of them have great moments discussing the mystery surrounding the new Green Ranger. As a reader, itâs fun to see them speculate and make comments about their friends, when we know otherwise. You can see where Ryan Parrott is setting up potential future conflict.
On the art side, Marco Rennaâs clean style reminds me of Daniele di Nicuoloâs art from Shattered Grid and Necessary Evil. BOOM! Studios continues to get very talented artists that keep the visual continuity strong for Power Rangers. Art-wise this issue is a perfect mix of conversation and action to show off Rennaâs skills going forward.
Overall, Mighty Morphin Issue 1 continues the mystery of the last arc and opens up the Power Rangers universe a little bit more. I am looking forward to upcoming conflicts and seeing more of the new Green Ranger.â

On Wednesday, October 28th, POWER RANGERS: Drakkon New Dawn Issue 3Â will be released from Boom Studios.
FINAL ISSUE! After a devastating loss to the enemy, Kimberly and the remaining Power Rangers must rally their remaining forces in a final stand against Lord Drakkonâs cruel world-ending contingency plan. The Rangers will take on an enemy never before seen in Power Ranger history!
Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:
âWhat happens to a world split between warring factions? In the face of a much greater evil, can people put aside their differences and work together for a common purpose? Do our past traumas define who we are now?
The final issue of Drakkon New Dawn answers these questions, while leaving a couple more questions on the table. The final panels of this miniseries definitely open up the possibility for more adventures in the world of The CoinlessâŠ. sorry, The Shattered. They may have been shattered as a people in the course of the mini-series, but they are not completely broken.
Throughout the issue there is a sense of hope to what the core of Power Rangers should be. How we can be at our best working together as a team. Being a Power Ranger is more than just having powers or a fancy suit. Many characters in this issue learn that lesson, and it almost feels like the episode of Power Rangers In Space, âCountdown to Destructionâ. Fitting since there is a similar structure in this issue, but with a multiverse twist. The issue also gives off that feeling of triumph and hope, much like Bulk and Skull declaring themselves as Power Rangers in âCountdownâŠâ.
This story was never just about Kimberly coming back home to find her place, but how a world on the brink of destruction can still have a chance to heal and rebuild. Very reflective of the state of the world now, and as a commentary â itâs fitting. If there is ever another chance to revisit this part of the Power Rangers universe, I hope that we get more messages like this.â

On Wednesday, October 28th, POWER RANGERS: Sins of the Future will be released from Boom Studios. News first broke of this graphic novel back in February, and next week the wait is over! Over the past couple of months BOOM! Studios have given us a first look, a preview earlier this month, and another preview just yesterday!
When Jen returns from the future, she and Wes are attacked by a mysterious stranger who has dire news â the timelines have been altered with deadly consequences and Jen is to blame! The shocking identity of their accuser sets them on a collision path with an enemy they never expected. Can Jen and Wes survive the threats to their pasts, presents and futures? Or will it be the end of everything as they know it?
Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:
âWill the our actions in the past define us forever? Is it within our ability to change by looking back at the past? Only if we are willing to make tough choices and commit to them through hard work.
Power Rangers: Sins of the Future is a fascinating story steeped in the lore of Power Rangers Time Force and, by extension, Power Rangers HyperForce. Serving as a sequel to the first and a prequel of the other, Sins of the Future takes place five years after the events of the show in both the past and the future timelines.
Through past previews of the comic, we see that Jen Scotts and Wes Collins are trying to maintain their relationship despite orders from Time Force Command. To Time Force, itâs strictly all business and no pleasure to stop rogue Cyclobots with no master. Jen and Wes have other plans with the time remaining on one particular trip, and it ends in explosive disaster⊠literally. With the appearance of a new Black Time Force Power Ranger, the mystery is only beginning.
Overall, I enjoyed Power Rangers: Sins of the Future. Writers Matthew Erman and Trey Moore (story by credit) did their homework when writing this, making a satisfying sequel to Power Rangers Time Force that stays true to the continuity of the show. This story slots nicely to explain events that happened in HyperForce, the Power Rangers Ninja Steel crossover âDimensions in Dangerâ and even the comics event Shattered Grid.
My note to readers is to take it slow and really pay attention to small details and the dialogue. Otherwise, you may miss small cameos by a few HyperForce characters. Being a show based in time travel, Power Rangers Time Force actually did very little of that. This graphic novel did a complete one-eighty, with timeline changes and glimpses into the past and future of the Power Rangers universe. I would almost suggest watching a few important episodes of Time Force before reading the graphic novel. I admit having to look up a couple characters I forgot about, but overall if you are a huge fan of the series this shouldnât be a problem.
As for serving as a prequel to HyperForce, itâs ok if you did not watch the online RPG from Hyper RPG. Although faithful watchers of that show will be excited with the references made to the early formation of the branch of Time Force. I was pleased with how the graphic novel opened up for more narrative possibilities in the future.
In regards to the art, Guiseppe Cafaro makes his return from past original graphic novels, Power Rangers: The Psycho Path and Power Rangers: Soul of the Dragon. Cafaro continues the wonderfully detailed artwork with rich setting and accurate representation of actorâs likenesses. It seems like BOOM! Studio has made him the official artist for these one shot stories and I hope that trend continues! The colors by Francesco Segala are vibrant, mixed with wonderful effects that bring the art to life and enhance the time effects we see. As always, letterer Ed Dukeshire is a power force for everything Power Rangers, and this issue is no exception.
Power Rangers: Sins of the Future continues the trend of fantastic original graphic novels for the franchise. Itâs a shame we get these only once a year, but patience is rewarded with quality. Highly recommended.â

COMIC PREVIEW â Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 55
On Wednesday, October 21st, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Issue 55 will be released from Boom Studios. Earlier this week, we posted the first look of this issue with additional preview pages.
Itâs a battle for the agesâthe Power Rangersâ THUNDERZORDS vs the Dark Rangersâ TERRORZORDSâand nothing will ever be the same! Plus, the shocking first appearance of the character no Power Rangers fan EVER expected, setting the stage for the upcoming era of UNLIMITED POWER in the brand new series Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers in November 2020.
Host Eric (@trekkieb47) had a chance to read the issue in advance and shares his review:
âWithout giving away all of the issue in this (mostly) spoiler-free review, MMPR 55 serves as conclusion to the Dark Rangers mini-arc that started after the end of âNecessary Evilâ. Since the announcement of the main book being split into two titles going forward, issue 51 through 55 have felt like a breather⊠and a prelude to the upcoming âUnlimited Powerâ arc for âMighty Morphinâ and âPower Rangersâ.
These issues have done a great job of setting up the two new series for the next story. The return of Lord Drakkon will play out with the Omega Rangers in âPower Rangersâ since the new threat, the Empyreal, are the ones he warned the Rangers about. The new Green Ranger debuts in this issue and has been a plan of Grace and Billyâs, but builds upon the Green Psycho Dagger first seen thirty five issues ago and throughout Beyond the Grid.â The Dark Rangers were a major threat in this issue, and redeem the first teamâs awful appearance in the television show. All of these pieces are on the board for the next two series to tackle and the benefit of two titles letâs us focus on both teams of Power Rangers. This is what has me excited, because the switching back and forth the past few issues tested my patience as a reader.
Like I said, issue 55 is totally a prelude to the much hyped âUnlimited Powerâ. The new Green Rangerâs first appearance is explosive, literally, but I canât help but feel it is a misdirect. We donât actually find out the identity of the Ranger in this issue. Thatâs the only spoiler Iâll give, but I would pay very close attention to the conversations Grace has. For months, fans have speculated on the new Green Rangerâs identity and I hope the reveal is very surprising next month. As a conclusion to fifty-five issues of Mighty Morphinâ Power Rangers? Issue 50 felt like more of a send off to the book as a whole than this one. And with the revelation earlier this week that one of the variants for Mighty Morphin #1 is called a âlegacy variantâ which continues the old logo and numbering scheme, it definitely drives the point home that this is a continuation of the story, not the ending.Â
With close to five years of Power Rangers comics, next monthâs split feels like a fresh start. Iâm looking forward to exploring more conflict with Zordon now that there is a new Power Ranger he had no choice in creating. The Omega Rangers leading their own title and dealing with a galaxy spanning threat is exciting and I canât wait to explore more of Jason, Trini and Zackâs story on their own series instead of occasionally as side characters. Weâre only just getting startedâŠâ
MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS #55 features a main cover art by Jamal Campbell (Far Sector), and variant cover art by Goñi Montes (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers), Kris Anka (The White Trees), and more.
Currently, Power Rangers is celebrating 27 continuous years on the air, making it one of the longest running kidsâ live-action series in television history with nearly 900 episodes aired to date.
