on billy's desk is a small album, in it pictures of him && tommy over the years. tucked into the back of the album is a dinner reservation for the nice restaurant near the ski lodge billy had taken him to after kim broke things off.

His curiosity is sparked when he first notices the book. But as he begins to thumb through it, his heart feels like it skips a beat. Finally he finds the reservation tucked away in the back, the smile on his face has reached max proportions as he reaches out to text Tommy

Falcon (SMS) I found your present, Tommy this is more than I could ever hope for. I love you, I can’t wait or our trip.

"Here you go, Billy!~ Chocolates for you," Tsuki said giving Billy some chocolates, smiling at her fellow scientist.

Billy looks so surprised to be thought of by Tsuki he looks between her and the chocolate twice before he smiles. “Thank you so much Tsuki.”

Billy actually shakes off the red eyed girl’s touch. shaking his head in a lopsided motion. Trying to push himself to his feet. “I have to-- i have to work. Redd and Zita... i mean.. ha they’re not even.. it’s the machine empire isn’t.. they’re they’re up to something really bad. I just know it.” He stumbled to his desk almost losing his balance entirely

Billy blinks several times like he doesn’t quite process the words at first, but then it hits and him and it’s visible on his face, just how it touches the veteran ranger. Even if it hurts still, not being a ranger. He opens his mouth, giving a little shake of his head , for once he’s lost to words. Instead he just leans in wrapping the smaller girl in a hug, He doesn’t expect it to hit him so hard but there are moments when he feels such a sense of loss. He doesn’t expect anyone to keep talking about his glory days. But then there’s Tsuki. He tries to ignore the tears stinging at his eyes wanting to make themselves known. “I suppose ‘thank you’ is kind of a dull thing to say isn’t it?”

“Um, Aunt Kim…No offense. I really love you and I’m really grateful that you took me in and all, but if I wanted to be a Power Ranger, I would have joined the SPD Academy when they offered a couple of years ago.” She fiddled with the Red Ranger morpher, eyebrows knitted in slight confusion. “Besides, what makes you and the Powers That Be think that I’d be good at being a Ranger at all, let alone the R E D Ranger? Isn’t Red supposed to be, like, the leader or something?”

Her expression is gentle when she looks to Stella, a look of understanding in her eyes. “Stella, there’s a reason you didn’t want to join the academy, it’s..regimented. This,” she reaches out, hand covering Stella’s and the morpher briefly “Is being a ranger and getting to live your life but do a lot of good for the world.” a smile pulls at the veteran ranger’s lips, something wistful in i

“Look, I get it. I do. It’s a lot. When my friends and I were just told we needed to save the world  we thought they were crazy, we turned them down flat. But we had to step up when Rita attacked. We saw what we could become not only as a team but how much better we could be ourselves, for ourselves and the world.” 

She pauses moving closer to Stella, hands resting on her shoulders. “Because I see potential in you. You have it in you,. And yes, the red ranger is a leader. You would lead the team. You’re bold, powerful and brave. You are red ranger material.”

Her hands fall from her shoulders, brown eyes watching her carefully. “I’m not going to force you. If you don’t want to do this, you don’t have to.” she’d been through so much already. Kim knew it was asking a lot but it would be so good for Stella.

Her blush turned darker as he told her that she was a “rare beauty” and she stared at him wide eyed for a moment before looking down as well, very flustered. “N-nyah, Billy…” She didn’t know what to say to that, what did you say to that sort of thing? “Th-thanks…”

His enthusiasm made her happy; it was always fun talking to Billy, sharing their information and technologies even without meeting in person before now. She chuckled a bit and nodded. “I’d love to see your lab finally; it would be interesting to see where you do so much of your work, Billy.”

For her it was easy to be fascinated; for one it was science and she did love science. But also it was Billy and anyone, in her opinion, would be interested to be given the right to be privy to the sort of things the genius was up to.

The fact that Tsuki seems to be flustered only makes the genius smile more. She’s adorable of course. And if he can make the red eyed girl fluster and feel special. Hey he’ll take it as a win. 

He offers her his arm and smiles. “Well then let’s head over right now. Shall we?” he asks lifting his brow. 

His lab is set up in the garage of his home which looks like it’s spilled over into some of the dining room. Billy lives alone after all so he has it prepped. “Can I get you something to drink Tsuki? Or would you like to dive straight into the science?”

She’d become so lost in her own thoughts, in grieving all over again that  she hears his voice, clear as daylight. She freezes, her whole body tensing, quickyly wiping away the single stream of tears. She turns, single brown eye blown wide. “T-Tommy?” hands move underneath her to push herself to her feet. “You’re dead.” her voice is shaking, like she doesn’t quit trust it. Like she didn’t quite trust herself. 

Had she gone completely crazy? Seeing the ghost of the man she couldn’t save. 

when she turns to face him, tommy feels his blood run cold at how she looks. his gaze flickers over her face before settling on the eye patch && the scars. it kills him, it absolutely kills him to see that the war had gotten her like this – that even with his efforts to keep her out of it she still hadn’t been safe. the veteran nearly backs into the rocks behind him but manages to keep himself in place by no small miracle.

“everyone thinks i am,” he corrects – gaze flickering down to the sand for a long moment. “after it all ended – i started the rumor…. it was the only way to keep any remaining forces from going for the people closest to me.”

Confusion flickers over her face as he seems to recoil, backing away into the rocks. She moves towards the former white ranger, still looking unsure. Moving towards him, she hastily removes one glove dropping it to the ground. Her bare hand reaching out for him, gingerly touching his face. 

The contact sending a static shock through her and without thinking she throws her arms around his neck burying her face in his shoulder. “I can’t believe you’re alive I should have been here Tommy. I should have-- I’m so sorry.”

when tommy clears the top of the rocks && scans the beach to see who or what had tripped his alarm – kimberly is the last fucking thing he expects to see. && as shocked as he is to see her, he’s not really surprised when it comes down to it. of course she’d come here, of all places. it was their private little escape && perhaps that had been what made tommy choose to set up camp along the craggy rocks. he freezes, he goes rigid as brown eyes widen && the veteran – for all his quick thinking && survival skills – has no fucking idea what to do, or even how to react.

the war had still reached her. he can see that just by how she’s dressed && the weaponry that she carries with her. it makes his guilt raise it’s ugly head && try to claw it’s way over his senses. tommy stands there for what feels like an eternity before he moves seemingly on instinct, silent feet carrying him down the side of the rocks && to the sand. he knows she’ll hear him, hear his footsteps in the sand – && honestly he’s scared to actually approach her —- afraid of her reaction, afraid she might hate him for faking his death. so, from the bottom of the rocks – tommy oliver speaks up.

“if anyone should be apologizing, it’s me.”

Tommy had never meant to fall asleep on his couch, but he’d underestimated how exhausting the last few weeks had been. The nightmares had come back, haunting him worse than ever. This time, however, his new Rangers had been added to the mix. Somehow, it’d made everything that much worse. He’d been able to calm himself easier when it was simply flashbacks ‘gone awry’ and ‘what if’s’ from his evil Green Ranger days. But now? Adding his new Rangers into the twisted nightmares had made it seem too real and hit too close to home.

It took him a couple of seconds to realize that Kim was even there and when he did, he felt surprised. Had he invited her over? Had she been there when he’d fallen asleep? His panic fogged mind refused to allow him to remember or think straight. “K-Kim. When…when did you…?”

She looks a little sheepish when Tommy asks why she’s there. It’s a fair question. She shakes her head lightly, she’s sitting on the edge of the couch looking down with worried eyes. “I was coming over to talk to you and then I saw you.. I just didn’t think.. Are you okay?” she asks gently, reaching out to briefly press the back of her hand to his forehead. “You feel warm” her voice tinged with concern.

being alone is the only defense tommy has anymore. it keeps him from having to deal with others – from having to worry about friends && loved ones being at risk by him being around. it’s why he’d started the rumor that he’d died at the end of the war. it’d been hard, it’d been something that had killed him to do – but it had been a necessary evil to keep people safe.

it’s why he lives on a deserted beach, in a bare-bones house tucked into a craggy cove far from any potential wanderers. because being alone is all he knows these days. aside from a constant terror – a constant worry that the other shoe is going to drop && he’ll be found out, either by the remnants of rita && zedd, as well as the machine empire’s forces, or by the people he once held so close in his life.

it’s why he’s so surprised when the silent alarms he’s set around his property go off, alerting tommy that someone was drawing too close to his home for comfort – the veteran grabbing his morpher && semi-broken communicator, just in case – before climbing up the side of the cove that had somewhat of a path along it so he could see along the beach.

Kim had fought her way back from europe to Angel Groves, and that was literally a fight.  When she’d left Angel Grove the war was already starting, Tommy urged her to leave with her parents, they’d be safer, she’d be safer. 

At least that’s what they thought.

Rita and Zedd were persistent and they wanted Ranger blood, apparently they didn’t think Kim should get off so easily just because she gave the power to Kat. Word reached her that Kat was the first slain and she couldn’t help but feel guilty. Would Kat have even been there if not for her leaving? 

Before long, monster attacks began hitting europe, strangly close to where the pink Ranger was, the police were overwhelmed and while she could fight, she was literally powerless. One particularly fierce beast stole the sight from her left eye, leaving with three visible claws as a scar from her eyebrow to just under her eye. 

She’d been vigiliant, fought her way through monsters with just her combat skills. But enough was enough. It was then she armed herself to the teeth, became a mercenary of sorts, and started becoming a serious problem for Zedd and Rita. 

But one after one she heard of her friends dying. And she wasn’t there. But then.. Tommy. She’d broken down in public, she felt the loss in her soul. Tommy was a part of her. She loved him. They never even really broke up He sent her away because he feared for her and her family. And her stepdad wanted to move anyway.. she stayed behind for a while but eventually Tommy convinced her to go. She still loved him.

That’s why she ended up on this beach. Her and Tommy used to come here all the time when they were together, before the war. She thought about the girl she was then, to the girl she was now standing on the beach. The girl who walked the length of the beach, Tommy’s arm around her, laughing like they had their whole lives in front of them. 

The girl who stood here now looked vastly different, combat boots on her feet, black pleather  pants, though there’s hints of the old Kim, she has a long sleeved pink shirt, that shows her stomach, a protective black vest over it. Black and pink leather gloves. And of course an eyepatch, it’s leather and pink but still doesn’t hide the scars peaking out underneath it. 

She has a bow and arrows strapped to her back and gun holsters on her hips.

But still she sits down on the beach, picking up some sand and letting it filter through her hands “I’m so sorry Tommy.”

Tommy’s eyebrows knitted for a moment at the mention that he’d shown up in the paper, then he’d remembered and gave a small smile. “I’d forgotten about that. It’s all…a long story. One that can only be recounted away from nosy individuals who work for the school’s news station.” His gaze fell upon Cassidy and Devon, both of whom were not so subtly trying to edge closer.

Without thinking, he lightly put a hand on Kimberly’s lower back to guide her towards the entrance of the school. “Cassidy and Devon,” he explained. “Cassidy swears that she’s going to be a famous reporter one day and, honestly with her knack of getting into situations, I actually believe that she will.”

He didn’t say much else as he led her to his Jeep and opened the door for her, like the gentleman that he was. It was weird having Kimberly back in his life, almost as suddenly as she’d entered and left it in the first place. His gaze landed on her engagement ring again and he sighed, feeling something tighten in his chest.

“Does he know that you’re here?” He briefly nodded towards the ring as he started up the Jeep. “Why are you here, Kim?” It doesn’t take them long to get to his house, a nice little place that screamed ‘family man’ from the outside, but one look at the interior would tell Kim that he was still very much a bachelor.

At first Kim looks just as confused as Tommy before she gives a knowing nod and a soft chuckle. “Oh I see, so a little more apt than Bulk and Skull at finding the scoop huh.” she cast a glance over her shoulder to the blonde and long haired boy not so subtly holding a camera. 

It feels somehow natural to be guided by Tommy through high school halls, it wasn’t Angel Grove but feels somehow nostalgic. She tries not to let herself fall too deeply into the feeling. She can feel the eyes of Cassidy still on her so she gives a little wave before she’s ushered out to the jeep. Brown eyes shift to Tommy as he opens the door for her, of course he’s still a gentleman. Of course he’s still a great guy, he’s Tommy. 

The gymnast recoils slightly at the sudden question about her fiance. Why does she feel like hiding the ring suddenly, she ends up fidgeting with it. “What? Yeah, yeah.. wait, which part?” she asks lifting her brows “You or why I’m here?” it’s a little direct but she’s never been one to shy away from a subject. “Listen, i’ll explain everything, let’s just wait until we get back to your house.”

His house was pretty isolated but pretty adorable, she couldn’t help but admire the different fossils on the way in. There was a part of her that was looking for signs, signs to tell her if he was still available.. not that it mattered of course. Just sheer curiosity.. yeah that was it. 

Kim seats herself down “Alright so why I’m here.. I was telling the truth before, I did see a new article with your face. But it didn’t take much digging to see that Reefside is getting hit nonstop with monster attacks. And then I found out there was a new set of Rangers protecting the city.” she laces her fingers together looking contemplative. “It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that your mentoring a new group of Rangers.” She looks to Tommy now, but not for confirmation, just a knowing look in her eyes. “After I realized that, I looked into what you guys are facing. And I’m here to help.” she laughs gently, a hand coming up to cover her mouth. “It’s really funny, how alike we ended up. Teachers, mentors to a new group of Rangers.” biting at her lower lip she waits for this new revelation to sink in.
