Reflection Paper
The number of stray animals wandering everywhere has been a big problem worldwide as it has a lot of negative impacts. The environment can be badly impacted by issues like feces on the road, car crashes, people may pass their anger to the stray animals and may beat them up, and their dead body will be covered with flies which citizens may complain. This is why I was motivated to establish a petition calling for the implementation of a free neuter or spay program to lower the number of stray animal populations. After publishing the petition, few people have commented their thoughts and opinions.
The first comment that I have received stated that, "Low cost spay/neuter programs with a lot of outreach for those cats who are not homeless also work as I have seen. TNR is also important though and can have a huge effect. Vets here who are involved with TNR will charge lower fees but no matter what, feral/homeless cats need to be spayed/neutered/vaccinated. They are out there through no fault of their own and TNR keeps them healthy, fed, and of course, the real bonus, less kittens being born into a difficult world." At first, I wasn't able to comprehend their comment well, as well as the "TNR", that's why I had to look up the definition of TNR. It was an abbreviation of trap-neuter-return. The commenter suggested that low cost of TNR is also good and more realistic than asking for free neuter/spay program.
My intention for my petition is to also help those pet owners who couldn't afford the fee of sending their pets to operation to get fixed. That's why requesting to implement those kind of operation for free can be a big help to every pet owners. But since the problem is overpopulation of stray animals, the effective way to get those stray animals to get fixed is to do the TNR method. The petition that I published has reached 200+ sign ups, and people from international also signed for it. Another comment stated that, "It's over breeding humans that should be sterilized". In my opinion, there are some cases in which humans are actually involve with the overpopulation of animals. If humans owns a female cat and when it gets pregnant, they would throw away the kittens to maintain the number of their pet in the house which is really disturbing.
