End-of-September Progress Report
This month has mostly been all theory rather than practical due to life stuff and moving, just like high school chemistry was. Notably, I read through the feedback on the last progress report and got a half-assed group chat feature implemented, though itâs not been tested yet. It may not be in the release build, but theoretically, it should be working.
Requests can now theoretically be made (again, untested due to time issues this month). Also, tagging is now about 50% done, and the code to check a promptâs tags at posting time is done. Next up: Adding the mod tools to set tags as synonyms/parented/whatever, and updating any prompts that have those tags.
Speaking of which, letâs talk tagging for a minute or two. There are three kinds of wrangling mods can do. Synonym, parent, and maturity bumping. Synonyms are simple - a tag that means the same as another will be automatically replaced if itâs marked as a synonym of another. Example: array(âBNHAâ, 'boku no hero academiaâ, 'boku no hero macadamiaâ, 'bananaramaâ) â> My Hero Academia. Parenting is stuff that falls under something else - So Persona 5 will get the Persona parent tag for example. Maturity bumping is almost exclusively reserved for NSFW(E) tags, so for example, Violent will parent to NSFWV, Sexual will parent to NSFWS, etc. Itâs basically insurance against miscategorizing maturity.
These can also be chained for a single tag - so letâs take âloliâ as an example. Itâs not the prescribed format, so itâs ***synonym*** wrangled to âLoliconâ. Lolicon has the ***parent*** tag Underage, so thatâs automatically applied as an additional tag. Finally, Underage is a ***maturity bump** tag, so NSFW Extreme is also added to the prompt.
Extra note - A single tag can have all those features on its own without aliasing to other stuff. For example, âbible black originsâ could synonym to âBible Black: Originsâ, have the parent tag âBible Blackâ, and bump maturity to NSFWE because of the content of the series. In practice, only the âcorrectâ tag for a synonym will do this, but theoretically, itâs possible and gives us flexibility.
In laymanâs terms, this month was not entirely focused on perfecting the operations of the site. Things were added, such as the abilities to make requests and group chats, however, remain untested due to the lack of time. The plan for the tag wrangling is in place, with three categories that will serve as their defining area, and what this will mean for the tagging system as a whole.Â
However, one thing that is also being released with this report is the announcement that the site is officially only 18+. While we understand this may be an issue to some, we believe that going forward, this will be the best thing for the long term health of the site and its userbase.Â
There are officially more NSFWE requests than there are SFW ones â and a large portion of those SFW prompts are tagged 18+ anyway. There are worries expressed both by the userbase and other members of the moderation team regarding legal liability for the site, buoyed by the confirmed cases of minors lying about their ages in order to gain access to prompts labeled 18+.
As a result, we have decided to unilaterally ban minors from the current iteration of the site. Before too much of a fuss is made, please note that this was in the plans, to begin with from the rewrite, weâre just shifting the schedule for it up and into the pre-rewrite site. We believe that this ban will help the userbase breathe more easily when it comes to worrying about who exactly theyâre RPing with.
We will be allowing a grace period of now to October 1st to allow minors to move off-site. Beyond that, reports of minors on-site will be treated with priority and, as the saying goes, extreme prejudice.
As always, feel free to provide feedback in the form of messages and reblogs.Â
