I’m gay? Like. This post was specficially about how I’m tired of people coming uninvited into my ask box to tell me I can’t identify as queer when I have *never* in my life used that word for anyone who doesn’t like it or use it for themselves. What the hell is wrong me calling myself a word just because you don’t like it? Just mind your own damn business?

I’m so concerned over it because the word queer means “Weird or strange.” You don’t wanna be seen as normal? I guess I can’t stop you there, but it’s still annoying to those who have gone through abuse or corrective r*pe while being called it.

And guess what? Nobody is forcing anybody to use that word if they dislike it! But there is a long, LONG history of LGBTQ people reclaiming the word and using it to take back power from our oppressors. Queer politics and history has existed as long as it’s been a slur. Gay has been a slur. Almost all our words have been slurs.

But you’re 14, and I’m not going to engage in discourse with a minor who clearly does not yet understand the vast and complicated history of their community. I hope as you get older and wiser you come to realise that you have absolutely no right trying to stop older LGBTQ people using certain words for themselves - and that your anger is pointlessly spent, as no amount of replies on Tumblr posts will stop anyone who wants to identify as queer from doing so. Put your energy towards fighting the people who want us all to die/go away/stop asking for human rights and not members of your own community.

As a Bi woman in a relationship with a man, I FULLY and UTTERLY identify with being QUEER. BECAUSE I CAN. You know how I learned to accept that? Other people in my community identify as queer too. It let my know that I wasn’t alone.

Motivation is overrated. No amount of motivation would’ve gotten me through hours of my accounting textbook. No “vision” is enough to keep me awake til the crack of dawn on an essay that I don’t even know if the professor will check. Discipline is what determines how far you go. On those days when your cute little list of #goals and vision of yourself 5 years from now aren’t enough, discipline will pull you out of bed and get you to work. I wish I knew this in high school because I thought I couldn’t work without motivation. I wasted so much time trying to find purpose before I realized that working now, albeit blindly, will ensure that I could chase any purpose I discover in the future. Sure, motivation is crucial, but it’s not consistent. It’s not reliable. You can only rely on yourself and your grit.
