Discover Chicago’s Beauty Scene with Adeline Hocine
“I used to be really fearful of beauty as an overall concept. To me, it felt restrictive. It’s only in the last year or so that I’ve begun playing with my personal style in regards to beauty, and I owe a lot of that to the increased representation in media. Being Muslim, it was difficult to find contemporary style icons growing up, but that’s constantly changing now and for the better. Now, I take pride in the ritual of testing riskier beauty looks. I view fashion more wholly as a result. Beauty should be freeing, not limiting.” Discover our follow-up story with Adeline Hocine who speaks more about style, identity, and her life in Chicago through a beauty lens.

I feel like we’ve had the best of all worlds. We’ve been the underdog, but we’ve been written about nicely by critics. It’s the ideal place to be, because you get to do your work and you’re not overly famous. And the people who really enjoy that kind of stuff really enjoy it and write great things.
