What are the tax benefits to investing in Rare Pink?
Since launching our crowdfunding campaign on seedrs.com, potential investors have approached us with tons of interesting questions about investing in Rare Pink.
Many are curious about how the benefits offered by the SEIS scheme work and how they could apply to their individual cases.
Read below if you would like more clarity on what SEIS is and how it works. If you already have an understanding but what to know how Seedrs ensures you get your tax relief post-investment, then this is the link for you.
What is the SEIS?
The Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) is to help early-stage companies in the UK to raise funds by offering investors a reduced investment risk in the form of massive tax breaks and a one of a kind investment protection if the business fails.
SEIS offers a 50% tax break, which means that at the end of the fiscal year investors will see a reduction of their taxes equivalent to 50% their investment in Rare Pink.
As a result investors are buying shares at half the price and have a higher potential return. On top of that, SEIS may fully protects your investment so that in the case the business fails you can claim back up to 100.5% of your original investment in tax breaks.
These features make the SEIS the most generous tax schemes available to UK taxpayers.

Example 1
Jenny invests £20,000 in the tax year 2012-13 (6 April 2012 to 5 April 2013) in SEIS qualifying shares. The SEIS relief available is £10,000 (£20,000 at 50%). Her tax liability for the year (before SEIS relief) is £15,000 which she can reduce to £5,000 as a result of her investment.
Example 2
Stephen invests £25,000 under the SEIS in the tax year 2013/14. His income tax liability for the year is £35,000. He also expects to realise a capital gain of £25,000 on the disposal of some shares in companies listed on the stock exchange.
By claiming SEIS Relief and SEIS Reinvestment Relief Stephen reduces his income tax liability by £12,500 to £22,500, and he saves capital gains tax of £3,500. In total he saves £16,000 in tax by investing £25,000 under the SEIS, making the net cost of his £25,000 investment just £9,000.
The shares are sold after 3 years for £50,000. Under SEIS, Stephen does not have to pay capital gains tax on the gain of £25,000 saving Stephen a further £7,000.
His post-tax return on a £25,000 investment under the SEIS which cost him £9,000 after the initial income tax and CGT reliefs, is £50,000 – or more than 5 times his net cost.

Exciting Announcement at the Rare Pink HQ in London
WOW! What an adventure it’s been. Two years ago, when David and I started this company, we thought:
“How hard could this be? Let’s make a website and sell diamond jewellery online”.
We did not for a second think about how many boxes we would need to tick before people who don’t know us will be happy to deposit thousands of pounds into our accounts… and all this before even seeing their product.
All we thought was:
“If others have done it, so can we”.
In October last year, after the wildest of rollercoaster rides we finally launched RarePink.com from our new London office.
In our first month of trading we managed to get £20,000 in new orders from customers from around the world, including the UK, US, Latvia, Australia and even South Korea.
We realise that we are still one of the smallest companies in our market. To grow and achieve everything on our roadmap, we have decided we need to raise external investment.
So, next week we begin a new adventure. For the first time since setting up, we will be giving external investors an opportunity to own a part of our company.

Leaving the best for last...
Through a government scheme called the SEIS, all our UK investors will be able to claim back between 50%-78% of their investment from the HMRC.
This means an investor who puts in £1,000 will get back between £500 and £780 of that investment from income tax they have previously paid.

We had an event just before Christmas in our Office which is most appropriately called The Bathtub. We had some amazing diamonds. Clients were allowed to handle some of the loose gemstones and settings. All in all, a fabulous event! Will upload some pictures from the actual event.

A recent customer of our just left us a really thorough review of how our Custom Designed Engagement Rings product offering works at Rare Pink.
In the beginning of 2013 I decided I was going to propose to my girlfriend. I had seen a very nice ring in an In-flight magazine, I knew she’d like the ring a lot, but I wanted to make some adjustments to the design, put better stones in it and engrave a message on the inside. It was quite a complicated ring, with 40+ black and 3 clear diamonds.
I got in touch with the Rare Pink team, showed them my idea for a design and we discussed how we would proceed in making the ring. After ‘stealing’ one of my gf’s rings, so that we can get the size right, I left things with Rare Pink. Have to mention here, that I was on a bit of a deadline, as I had already chosen a date and place, and needed the ring before we fly out of the UK. That was in about 3 weeks from the time I made the order with Rare Pink. The process of creating the ring was quite swift and professional. I got some different design suggestions, and was allowed to give my feedback at each step. That was really impressive to me, as I was not expecting things to be so flexible. We had at least 4-5 changes to the initially suggested design, but I was not charged anything extra for it, which was good.
Once the final design was approved, there was a week left, and I was getting a bit worried that we won’t hit the deadline, but it turned out the creation of the ring was a relatively straightforward process. There was a slight delay because of the message on the inner side of the ring, as the engraver was a bit slow, but I have to say that Rare Pink more than made up for it, by delivering the ring on the day I was leaving, personally, in front of my work office door.
