They all come back, in their basic form. Their leaves and tiny stalks look feeble, but their roots run deep and strong. They all come back, in their simplicity. Fresh, clean and daring, they look like the most harmless creatures. They cover up their roots, look up and tell you to relax. Their leaves and tiny stalks look feeble, but their roots run deep and strong. They stand firm, beautiful, elegant and modest. They all come back, in their basic form. They come bringing the breeze to your notice, and if you are looking intently still - they even watch you smile in your heart. They come bringing happiness yes, but also remind you of things you wish you to want to run away from - tragedy. Tragedy for them is a way of life, it's beautiful, it's real. The tragic reality of them knowing that we can't die as easily and unnoticed as them after a storm. They poke us through the bars that cage our spirits, without taking a single step. They stand beneath your feet. Strong, upright and beautiful, they make you also look fresh, clean and daring. They not only see, but also feel you run away from happiness into tragedy. They cover up their roots, look up and tell you to relax. Their leaves and tiny stalks look feeble, but their roots run deep and strong. They stand firm, beautiful, elegant and modest. They all come back, in their basic form - nostalgia. #nostalgia #memories #karma #ecology #globalwarming #humanexistence #earth #yolo #plants #wildplants

The spread of these branches across what was literally the land of gold (Kolar Gold Fields - KGF), is one of the few trees that remain in some decent splendour. A place that the British sucked dry of gold, is home to the second deepest mine in the world. People went to work here and became very much part of the land. Even my great-grandfather thrived here. Today however, a large number of working class people, especially youth travel everyday to work in Bangalore. The trains to KGF are often like long dormitories and refectories; everyone practically knows everyone. These branches spread across what was once a vacation destination for diasporic tamils like me who are reluctantly accepted by new found narratives of nationalisms and regionisms. The lines of trees that lead to the house were unbelievably good, that one tends to take note of them when they are gone. We climbed on those trees, tied ropes and swung on them, slept under them on hot afternoons and listened to the leaves as the breeze caressed the branches. We made paper boats in the rain that actually ran a long course, and almost promptly get slapped for tearing papers from notebooks. But, we continued making boats and our elders continued wiping our rain soaked heads. Not to mention the thousand stars we spotted in the night sky and white blush of the earth on a clear full moon night. All of this to the smell of incense and evening prayers in most houses. I never thought I'd be so mused by this place, maybe. But I sure know that this is one among the last trees standing in that lane. Which means one generation less that has textbook knowledge of a childhood that: Knows the colour of slush, but not felt it. Know the colours of the rainbow, but not seen it. Knows about medical first aid, but never had bruised knees, elbows or faces. Knows a dozen names of birds, but hardly seen them. Know to look for internet, but not for a lost toy in the garden. Know a hundred people, but have no idea how to trust. Know to draw a silver lining around a black cloud, but never experience one. Not to forget the older generation, that needs to learn how to unlearn. Home. Home that is strange. But still home.
The fastest person on the beach. She moved like her name was Minnal (Lightening). But the waves kept coming and going, the bull posed, the sun was getting wet and the moon hadn't yet reached. Life went on Minnal. #sunset #beach #waves #walking #posing #gokarna #lastweekof2016
