Are you kidding me
imagine you’re eight years old and you’re watching your favorite cartoon. you decide to try to draw your favorite character. it’s not great but you love it.
imagine you’re sixteen years old and you’ve just discovered manga. the stories and the characters resonate in you. you decide this is what you want to do.
imagine you’re nineteen years old and you’ve just started your BA in animation. sure, you’re not in calarts but hey, you can make it. this is your passion.
imagine you’re twenty-one years old and you’ve been accepted for an internship. you clutch at the letter and cheer. this is it; the start of your career.
now imagine you’re twenty-two years old.
you stare down at the storyboard you’ve spent all night finishing up.
it’s a long, detailed shot depicting a hot dog bun having an orgy with seth rogen’s foodsona. you suddenly remember seth’s notes instructing you that those buns need to be as sexy as possible. you sigh as you forget any and everything you know about character design, art, love, and passion.
and you draw the biggest, curviest boobs possible to fit onto a hot dog bun.
Many men in philosophy, like many men everywhere, have historically not engaged respectfully and attentively in serious intellectual interchanges with women. This practice seems connected to the informally closed nature of philosophy and the way those already in the profession act as gatekeepers who determine who gets to enter and stay in the academic field, whose voices are heard in prestigious refereed publications, and so on. Most of the historically acclaimed men of the philosophical canon, in their philosophical writings, criticized women’s abilities to reason and do philosophy.
Marilyn Freedman explores misogynist attitudes in the philosophical canon in Women In Philosophy: What Needs to Change?, edited by Katrina Hutchison and Fiona Jenkins.

I have noticed that when all the lights are on, people tend to talk about what they are doing – their outer lives. Sitting round in candlelight or firelight, people start to talk about how they are feeling – their inner lives. They speak subjectively, they argue less, there are longer pauses. To sit alone without any electric light is curiously creative. I have my best ideas at dawn or at nightfall, but not if I switch on the lights – then I start thinking about projects, deadlines, demands, and the shadows and shapes of the house become objects, not suggestions, things that need to done, not a background to thought.
