In the chaos of battle with the demon, despite the trio having the upper hand and fighting valiantly, Fionna had almost been struck by a large spiked tree end when Hunter pushed her out of the way. He had taken the brunt of the spike by being impaled nearly in half. The image was so awful, so inconceivable, Fionna remembered how she screamed in horror at the sight. Hunter, in pieces.
She rushed to him, panting hard and ice sweat trickled down her spine. Fionna had cried for Cake’s help. Only her stretchy strength could get this spike out of HW’s torso. She had to act fast. “Cake! Help!”
Hunter had looked downright awful. Sap seeped everywhere it wasn’t supposed to. It was supposed to stay inside his body. His sap was his blood. She blinked back the tears stinging her eyes. “CAKE!” She screamed again until her throat hurt.
“Fionna…” Hunter rasped wearily, coughing up thick copper fluid. “I’ll be alright. Green magic—“
“Who gives a damn if you have green magic to regenerate! This still shouldn’t happen!” Fionna snapped, her throat sore from closing at the sight of HW. Even with his healing abilities, there was a massive spike in his stomach that she couldn’t get out by herself. Damn it, where was Cake?
Fionna was about to start screaming a third time for her furry sis when the feline finally made her way over to them after sending the last few attacks back at the demon who was a quarter of the size it was originally, neutralizing the rest of it’s threat. Cake’s eyes had widened witnessing the state of Hunter. “Oh, no! HW, hold on, baby!”
“Fen, um,” Fionna mumbles as she dismounts her shoulders, “my blood hurt the Lich.” She leans forward and looks up at Fennel’s sheepish face. “Whittling away at a reason here, but if you wanna tell me yourself…”
Fennel holds her breath, stare glued to the screen. “If you think you know why do I have to say it out loud?” She bites her lip, chewing at the dry skin there. “Embarrassing.”
“No it’s not,” Fi insists softly, crouching into the treetop and patting the space next to her. Fennel sighs and sinks down to her knees, flipping the phone shut and tossing it into Fi’s lap. “I miss you all the time, and” she waves her cell in the air, “now that you’ve seen this… please stay.” Her other glances at her with sad, frustrated eyes, lighting her face dimly. “How much more of my mortal lifespan are you gonna eat up by being a wuss, dude?”
Fennel growls, chin dropping to her chest. “I’m not being a wuss, I don’t wanna hurt you, stupid.”
“He had scars 'n real angry marks all over from the neck down.” Fennel’s face whips up. “Dude-me looked like he got dumped in a lake full of pissed off razor fish on the daily.” Fionna swallows her shame and steadies herself as she forces out “did you ever stop to think I’d like it?” with a very red neck, chin set defiantly. “It was the first thing that got me all dumb over you.”
Fi brings a hand up to her other’s jaw and drags her thumb over her lower lip as she sits there, nervy and buzzing out of her skin, grass curling, hair reaching for her wrist. Fionna pushes it down, revealing a quick flash of fangs.
“How dangerous you are— it’s, I uh…” she falters, clearing her throat and dropping her arm to pet at the locks weaving between her fingers. “I like you, Fennel. I don’t want you to be something you’re not.”
Fennel shoves her hand into her bangs and sneers irritably. “I could really mess you up.”
“Okay, and?“ Fionna raises her voice, frustrated.
She finds herself on her back in a flash, pressed into the tree deeply with predatory teeth bared in her face as a cold hiss blows her bangs back with a loud snarl ringing in her ears. White hot eyelight blinds her, and sharpened claws pierce her shoulder making her squint. Fennel’s middle lets out a loud, low rumbling noise that curls her toes with equal parts fear and fascination. Her lashes lower, and her hands come up to push Fennel’s hair behind her ears and cup around her nape. Thin slit pupils dart over Fionna’s face, never quite landing as her lips close into a confused little frown at the pheromones peaking around her and at the flush that dips below her shirt.
