Hey, I'm Val (Or Alto, whatever fits your fancy), and I post rpgmaker horror.

I love the genre and many of the games in it, with my all time favourite being Cat in the Box and The Witch's House. I decrypt the game files for fun, and to show fans of the genre the bits and pieces that compose the game.

I don't leave downloads for decrypted assets, that's on you. I don't condone ripping assets for use.

I would love to promote any rpgmaker horror possible, if you want your game promoted (or a game you really enjoy,) feel free to shoot a ask.

Sorry for my silence, but I've been a smidge busy. During another playthrough testing things, the newspaper is different! The one I got originally wasn't bloody, but it had the same text.

I'm still trying to figure out the other two, but these two seem to go like this:

It's completely random which one appears at the start of a new game. But this version seems to have a smaller chance of appearing. So mystery soved, sorta? I'll need to find out about these versions, though... wish me luck!

Chapters in the picture folder, not 100% Sure if these are leftovers from rpgmaker or actually planned chapters that were ment to go into the game, but I'm certain these were original assets meant to go into the game.

Fascinating stuff really, I wonder what the game would've been like with chapters.

"RED 2.png", not seen anywhere in the game and it's use is unknown. I expected this to be used in the Epitaph ending, but... nowhere. Despite it's lack of use, I like the mood of it. Creepy, too...

Back and better than ever! Bringing some more unused content from Cat in the Box! This file is called Blood_Festival.png and isn't really seen anywhere. I assume it was supposed to come up from the floor in either a event or to attack the player, or a effect used when the player gets caught by the killer.

Hey my loyal diciples!

I should've said this sooner, but sorry for my sudden vanishing! The blog isn't abandonned, I assure you!

The reason for my vanishing is mainly trying to sort out a new pc build, commissions and general health stuff. I'll come back shortly, as all the potraits for Ib have been fixed and ready to showcase. Along with a Cat in The Box guide for the true ending.

I'm still working on trying to decrypt wolfrpg games such as Misao and Mad Father, but they require some coding knowledge. Any advice is welcomed, along with korean translations for Cat in The Box art from Rollcake9.

Nope, there's a few more. There's a missable split second event, the basement event, the secret rooms, rollcake9 art that has no translations that can lead into insight about the behind the scenes of the game and possible scrapped content, and the newspapers mystery. There's a few more files I think left to go through, and its still unknown if anything is being said in the audio tapes mp3 file. Translation is a issue since I can't translate Korean, but I do hope to get to the bottom of some of the listed things and create a true ending (And achievement + multiple endings guide). Stay tuned<3

Garry has the cutest faces, I enjoyed fixing the transparency issue with him, his colour palette is just so good<3

Garry potraits 1/? Cleaned up and now with no transparancy holes! Kouri has stated before that they found making potraits/expressions difficult for Garry due to his other eye being hidden.

Puppet (Mary's theme) from Ib! The reason why this sounds way different is because the song is originially a midi file, NOT .mp3. I would've showcased the one similiar in game, but I think this one is abit more interesting and certainly has a bit more flair for being so different.

Garry sprites, but a funny thing I noticed is that... he's split in half. When you spot him intially, he's not split in half, so I don't know why this is the case. If he was cut off screen, it'd be a bit more understandable.

the reason he's cut in half is the limitation for event/character sprites in rpg maker 2000, i believe the max width is 24 pixels so they had to use 2 events for the animation

Potraits for Ib, I'll be cleaning them up before showcasing, since they're awfully... crusty? Might be the way I decrypted them. The holes of random transparency are more obvious on Mary:

A weird... thing, found in the files of Cat in the Box. It's a recolour of "Brain2.png", but this one is named "Oldone.png" No clue what it means, possibly it was meant to appear in a nightmare? Or is it 'Alto'? Whatever it is, it sure is interesting to discover.
