how to get into coding as a hobby: 1. be into warrior cats at an age where it will probably affect you for the rest of your life no matter how much you don't want it to 2. play animal jam around the same time 3. discover the scene that was "animal jam clans" 4. find the wiki they had for it 5. stumble upon a "guide to coding" made by someone who knows their shit 6. get really fascinated by it, try making your own page, fail immediately 7. forget about this for the next however-many years 8. while you've forgotten about it, get a toyhouse account and start seeing the many things people do on character profiles there 9. don't understand how they're doing it but get really interested in how to do the html 10. make a really simple layout with the wysiwyg editor 11. think it looks stupid. forget to think about it for the next few years 12. remember it again and then bodge something together from various layouts you like 13. start to understand how things work, vaguely 14. set up a neocities. figure out how things work more, through the help of inspect element and w3schools 15. just straight up make your own website. learn more as you keep going 16. actually make something that works really nicely. like wow what the hell you made that. with your own hands. wowee! 17. suddenly remember the reason you got into coding was because of a guide to coding on the animal jam clans wiki, which you have now learned is renamed animal groups roleplay wiki

Hi!!! If you don't mind, can you give me some tips on story development? Like, I really want to make a game showing my OCs, but I have so many of them that even if I initially focus on a small group I'll always want to add more and more to the plot... How do I avoid scope creep while still keeping my slice-of-life story engaging?

I mean from what you've given me here, it sounds to me like what you actually have is a long-form story that you are trying to morph into a short-form story! And that might be where a lot of your struggle is coming from!

My usual advice would maybe be to make a project that you split up into parts or chapters, so you can pace yourself on smaller parts of the story at a time. But it also sounds like this might be your first game-project, which could make something like that a bit intimidating!

You say that if you focus on a small group you'll want to add more and more, but! What if maybe you kept the circumstances small too? Like, maybe your starting group is 3 characters. Maybe the scope of your game can only be on a single day following the 3 of them, or even just a singular hangout!

I hope that helps a bit haha! Scope-creep is definitely real, and sometimes you'll have to kill your darlings! But I believe in you and you can do it!!

I've wanted to make a series of aging Misty designs for a while now, I liked the idea of her growing "mistier" and faded as she aged, becoming entirely unrecognisable.

I like the general direction I took with these, but you can tell the youngest headshot was drawn a while ago with the style change, lol and I'm pretty rusty atm.
