I actually really really liked Olivia Rodrigo’s new album I’m a little surprised by it. If anyone cares this is my review

You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love - Olivia Rodrigo

The lyricism occasionally feels underdeveloped but it is sonically the most interesting I’ve heard from Olivia Rodrigo. Tbh I am not typically looking for incredible lyricism from pop music, I think a catchy, well rounded album is more important for pop, and this album is very successful by those metrics.

With every album that Olivia Rodrigo puts out there is clear artistic development that you can track. I feel this album is the height of that development so far. 8/10 :)

Highlights

Honey bee - very sweet/ reminiscent of a lot of sad pop music/ pictures of you - Chappell and a lot of weyes bloods work (which is funny bc both have done backing vocals for Olivia).

My way - reminds me a bit of metric/ very much like dead disco with the synthy bits

I feel like my take on Bear in Obsession might be slightly controversial🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️🧍‍♀️ but ppl scare me

Thinking about how when Shauna/Natalie do the same thing Shauna gets villainized while Natalie is lionized. Like butchering the bodies, with Shauna it’s always “well she volunteered for it in the beginning” whereas people tend to have a lot more sympathy for Natalie having to butcher bens body. Also, on the topic of Ben, Shauna campaigns for Bens death but the team decided not to (with Akilahs vision) whereas Natalie actually kills Ben against the wishes of the group. Obviously the Ben situation is much more complicated than that but I do think the reaction to their actions is really really interesting
